Kamerion Wimbley (1 Viewer)

I loved Wimbley going into my big play league last year (6pts/sack) expecting him to improve on his total of 11 sacks in his rookie season, but he regressed. Is it time to buy low on Wimbley in big play leagues? Below is a snippet from cnnsi.com that has me feeling optimistic about Wimbley again.

The Browns are expecting a big year from Kamerion Wimbley. The third year pro finished his rookie year with 11 sacks, but saw his production dip (five sacks) in his second season as teams' paid more attention to him. However, that should change with the additions of Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams. "Last year, Wimbley would beat the guy around the corner, but the guard would help out," said a Browns' official. "With the inside push that we have now, he should easily top his production from his rookie season." The optimism comes with good reason. Rogers and Williams combined for 14 sacks last season, and their ability to command double teams inside will create numerous one-on-one opportunities for Wimbley. As one of the Browns' best athletes, team officials are hoping that Wimbley continues to make big strides as a rusher and taps into some of the "rare athleticism" that he has exhibited during off-season workouts. If Rogers and Williams dominate the inside as expected, look for Wimbley to put up the kind of production that will garner Pro Bowl consideration.

I think Wimbley's sack numbers will increase. I mean look at what the Browns have done up front. The corners need to step up and Jones needs to play more like he did in the 2nd half of the season, then the 1st. He has 2 years experience in the system. Yep ... things look favorable for him to have a great year.

Wimbley had Bloom and I positively drooling during the preseason last year. He was all over the place in the preseason games, looking like he had a gear and a half more than anyone else on the field. There's been plenty of speculation as to why he struggled last year, but the talent is still there. Nowhere to go but up for him and he'll probably come much more cheaply in those big play leagues this year. I'd be buying low if the opportunity was there. I'm in total agreement with Burning Sensation, though I'd bump the solo tackle goal to 60-65 in tackle neutral leagues that start three or less linebackers. And even then I'd be leery of the inherent inconsistency of most rush OLBs.

I was right there with you last year Jene. You've got to think that if the guy is going to be a perennial double digit sack type guy, that this is the year he begins (or continues if you're looking at his rookie year) that trend. Either way, its no secret that his value in big play leagues far outweighs his value in standard leagues.

Ok, what is everyones take on Wimbley now. Is it time to cut bait? Bust? Buy Low? I am not sure what to make of him. His rookie season was outstanding...but he has followed it up with 2 four sack seasons.

Possible that the first season people still respected McGinest more leaving the rookie to run 'free'.I have Wimbley on a very cheap contract so I'll more likely than not be holding

He has one good move, and that's about it.Defenses learned how to stop that one move after his rookie year, he's been a ghost since. He still has the raw skills, but the clock is ticking. I think his only saving grace would be if the Browns acquire another pass rusher to line up opposite him, maybe if the attention is centeredt elsewhere he'll thrive in one on one. I wouldn't bet on it though.I don't think the risk is worth the reward, I'd cut bait.
