Keeper Discussion (1 Viewer)

12 team roto auction league with 27 man rosters (17 hitters, 10 pitchers). OBP, R, RBI, HR, SB for the hitters. W, S+HD, ERA, WHIP, K/BB for the pichers.

I get 7 keepers. So far, I think these 6 are pretty solid...

Pedro Alvarez ($1)

Max Scherzer ($4)

Trevor Rosenthal ($4)

Manny Machado ($7)

Shelby Miller ($7)

David Robertson ($7)

My last spot comes down to...

Hiroki Kuroda ($10), Andrew Cashner ($10) or Nick Castellanos ($0).

What do you guys think?
Anybody?
I would think you could get Cashner, Kuroda, or a similar arm for less than $10 so keep Castellanos for free and see what happens.

We have a 1 round prospect draft. Basically we can keep this guy on our roster at no cost until he reaches the majors, then we can keep him for 2 or 3 years for $1

Most of the top prospects were either bought in the auction (Springer, Taveras, Baez, etc) or drafted in the prospect draft.

I'm thinking of taking

Miguel Sano, but hes out for a year with TJ surgery

or

Carlos Rodon apparent #1 pick in this years draft

What do you think

I'd take Sano. When in doubt, go with the position player.

Yeah, between those 2, I go Sano.

General question about a keeper league.

We have 15 starting spots and keep 9 every season and with this setup it's pretty hard for a bad team to improve. And owners are against lowering the keeper number, so is there any way to assign dollar values to current keepers to try and improve the quality of guys not kept for the following draft the next season?

You could start by giving each team something like $18 in keeper money and each guy this year costs $2 to keep. Every year kept his keeper price raises $1-$2 or something, That way they all get to keep their guys this season and have all year to decide who they wanna nudge out.

Wrigley and I are in a league like that where players keeper values are based off where they are drafted. I think it's

Round 1 is $5

2-4 $4

5-10 $3

11-20 $2

Everything after + free agents are $1

Each team has $18 to keep whoever they want. Top players are usually too expensive to keep after a few years and get cycled back in. Traded and players picked off waivers maintain their drafted value. Pretty cool system I think.

Cool good idea. Wasn't even sure how to start it from scratch and our original draft was so long ago we would have to assign equal value to all current keepers. There just isn't enough turnover and so the bad teams tend to stay bad, would like to give everyone a better chance to compete. Thanks for the idea.

5x5 OBP keep 6 league.

Keeping

Cabrera

Longoria

Adam Jones

Hanley

Darvish

Should I keep Wil Myers or Billy Hamilton as 6? I've been planning on Myers all along as I traded for him last season, but if Hamilton can steal 50 bases he might be worth keeping.

Agreed. But it depends on the amount of time you can keep a player. I think Hamilton probably gives you more value this year if he hits but Myers is the safer bet for the future. Hamilton has the 70-80 SB upside but he is never going to help you any other category besides R/SB and he is never going to come close to helping in OBP.

Myers is going to have some growing pains this year especially with his AVG but I think the potential in his prime is .270-.280 25-30 HR 100 RBI guy year in year out. Hamilton can single handedly help win SBs but 30 HR power is increasingly rare these days as well.

Ugh, Tulo scares me...........but I'll still go option 2

I'd go option 1. Just can't pass up 2 top 5 talents. Plus, Greinke is a decent start to a rotation. Wouldn't even bother with Alvarez though. Can you trade keepers? Cause depending on their prices I'm sure someone would want Pedroia and Tulo.

We do a snake draft, with values determined by where they were drafted, and no trading after the season. Hopefully this doesnt come back to haunt me, but i ended up choosing option one, based on the fact there is no way McCutchen would make it to me in the draft. Theres a good chance I'll be able to draft Tulo.

Myers. More value in Myers at this time means you can get Hamilton easier in the draft.

Wacha and Jansen. Just curious...what happens since you're keeping 2 20th roundeers?

10 Team H2H league with unusual format:

Hitting: 1 point each for R, H, RBI, SB

Pitching: 7 pts/Win, 3 pts/QS, 1 pt/IP, 5 pts/Save or Relief Win, -1 pt/ER

Start only 3 SP each week, 1 RP

Must keep at least 6 and up to 10 (no limit on how long a player can be kept)

No brainers: Trout, Votto, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Reyes, Price

Other options (can keep up to 4): Freeman, Bruce, Sal Perez, Profar, Gyorko, Cobb

What an odd format. A single counts the same as a double/triple/homer?? Weird...

Assuming you can start both Freeman and Votto as well as Pedroia and Profar, I go..

Freeman, Bruce, Profar, Cobb.
