Keeper league with no contract length limit (1 Viewer)

I recently was invitied into a keeper league that I think has a quite strange combination of rules.

* 12-team league, standard positional requirements and mostly standard scoring.

* You may keep 0 to 4 players each year.

* If you keep 1 player, you lose your 1st round pick; 2 players, 2nd round pick; etc.

* There is no limit on how long you may keep a player.

* You may not keep players acquired as free agents during the season.

Is this as messed up as I think it is?

It seems that the combination of no time limit on keeping players with the inability to keep free agents makes it exceptionally difficult for bad/new teams to rebuild and become competitive.

How could this be any harder than rebuilding a dynasty league where you keep essentially your entire roster? If your team is crap, you dump 'em all and pick players early. You can also grab quality players in trade or the like.

I am in a similar league and love it. Kind of like a Dynasty Light kind of league. I would say that I don't like picking players up from FA can't be kept. I got Travis Henry last year, and was thrilled when he was dealt to Denver. Just make a couple of sharky trades are you will be surprised as to how quickly you can build your team up.Last year I sent a package that included Warrick Dunn when he was leading the league in rushing for Gore when we was sliding a bit after a few good games. If you can learn to buy high and sell low, you will do quite well.

I think this part is odd and does make rebuilding more difficult. Not sure I understand the point of it, why do they care whether you draft a guy or pick him up later? Perhaps to encourage trading is all I can think of. :goodposting:
