Kelly Gregg moving to DE? (1 Viewer)

Maybe I jumped the gun. I re-read the story. Sounds to me like Gregg will move to DE when Baltimore is in the 34.

By moving Gregg to end, Maake Kemoeatu will start at nose tackle. Fourth-year veteran Anthony Weaver will remain at the other defensive end spot.
This makes sense (at least to me). When the Ravens are playing the 46, I imagine Greg will move inside one spot and Suggs, Green or Cody will play DE.

The version of the 46 that the Ravens will run on defense in 2005 will only have three true down lineman. Sounds like Kemoeatu will be the NT while Weaver and Gregg will line up as the DE's. In this 46 the DE's will always line up inside the offensive tackles and usually on the offensive guards. Suggs and Thomas (?) at times will line up as down lineman. Other times they will be in a two point stance. They will have pass rush and pass coverage responsibilities...depending on the playcall.

Who is this Maake Kemoeatu person? Anyone got the skinny on this dude?

I'm still curious to know if anyone thinks Gregg's new role will help or hurt his stats. Seems like being DE at least gives him a few more opportunities at sacks, but then if he's lining up inside the tackle I'm not sure if that's true.

Gregg will probably play the LDE, which is similar to a DT. Gregg will line up inside the tackle and will have 2 LBs out side of him. The RDE in the 46 scheme is the one that has the value and should get the sacks. Direct comparison to the Bears DL is tough because the Bears were stacked with talent. Hampton, McMichael, Perry and Dent. The Ravens DL looks to be well suited for the 46 but falls short of the monsters assembled by the Bears in the mid 80s, IMO. In the Bears 46, Dan Hampton played LDE and did quite well. Hampton, however, was a superior player (compared to Gregg) and a HOFer. I wouldn't look for Gregg to post those kinds of numbers soley on the fact he is playing the same position as Hampton as there is obviously a difference in talent. I think the players that the 46 will help the most are Suggs, Lewis and Demps.Edit: Probably Anthony Weaver also.
