Kendall Hunter - RB - SF (1 Viewer)

Hunter is one of my favorite young players to watch. For a "small" guy, he can run hard between the tackles, with speed to the outside, can catch and run after the catch, has sweet feet and vision - pretty close to the total package. If Gore goes down or he ends up taking over for Gore I think he'd be a lock for a top 10-15 RB. I'm a believer!

:screech:Welcome to the skies, friend.

Liking what I am seeing this far. He looks pretty stout for a small back, bigger than Chris Johnson. He's having a nice game tonight from the looks of it.

It's not just about tonight either, he looks like this all the time - even in practice according to beat writers.

Sounds like we might be able to take one guy out of the SF backfield

Brandon Jacobs was carried off the field following what appeared to be a significant left knee injury in Saturday night's preseason game against the Texans.

Jacobs was down on the field for several minutes as Texans and 49ers players alike gathered around him in concern. The injury happened at the end of an eight-yard run and collision with Texans CB Kareem Jackson, who was also initially shaken up but appeared to emerge okay. Jacobs could bear no weight on his left leg afterwards, and was ultimately carted to the locker room. It's early, but we suspect Jacobs won't be playing football this season. Aug 18 - 8:57 PM

I loved him before the Jacobs injury, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get significant looks/carries even with Gore healthy - for his adp wow....

I like Hunter a lot. But Gore is still the Cow in SF. The real question how many carries split between all the RB's, and Gore in the past has demanded the rock over everyone else.

Edit: Thomas Clayton led in rushing in the pre-season too when he was a 49er.

I've been as big a Gore fan as anyone in these forums, but I also think he's on the brink of the wheels coming off. He's on the cusp of 30, and has regularly been nicked up, and I just see a possible transition happening in the next year or two, particularly if Hunter is talented. We'll see.

I always love it when a coach constantly gushes about a player. Gore may still be king of the hill, but some day Hunter is going to get his chance and I want to be there to reap the rewards.

I second that

Hunter has been one of my biggest Buy Lows all offseason. Despite an impressive rookie year his value seems to have gone down with the addition of James and, before he was hurt, Jacobs. IMO he will eventually get a chance to be a starting RB and has what it takes to be a RB1 in the NFL. His value might be lower than it ever will be right now.

I believe Hunter is the RB to have if Gore gets hurt. Handcuff. In Dynasty Hunter will be a nice RB to stash when everyone else is down on him. sssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

After the draft, a lot of people thought James would take over any role occupied by Hunter. It would make sense since on paper, James and Hunter seem like similar builds, but it couldn't be farther from the truth.Kendall Hunter - Built like Emmitt Smith (not making a talent comparison)

LaMichael James - Built like Dexter Carter

In his first year, James is too small for a significant role outside of something Sproles-like (I like the option stuff they're running with him and Kap). Hunter on the other hand, is a 3 down back. Gore and Dixon aren't very effective GL runners, now with Jacobs out for a little while, I'm interested in seeing what they do at he stripe. I'm sure they'll they'll continue to lean on Dixon in short yardage, but if he falters it wouldn't surprise me to see Hunter get some looks.

Gore still has some left, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a significant role in the offense for Hunter until/when/if Gore starts to wear down. At that point Hunter will have some serious upside.

Hunter and rashad Jennings are interesting.

It seems both may be sharing the load in run heavy offenses this season. Both are young and have shown flashes of being legit players and could start for other teams.

Can we have Freddy t/mjd; lj/priest situations of sharing?

Hunter is 23 turning 24 this football year. There is a misconception about Jennings being young and or being the man going forward. He is 27, turning 28 this year. I am tempering my expectations with Jennings in dynasty. Hunter seems to be a player that can make some noise down the road. Patience might be rewarded nicely.

Jennings reminds me of Fred Jackson and he got started late. I don't now about dynasty but he is going to see the field whether MJD reports or not. I don't think MJD is getting 20+ carries a game all year long now, not with missing camp and Jennings looking as good if not beer than before.

What's the current vibe on Hunter at this point? I was surprised to see Anthony Dixon come in and get a lot of touches after Gore left against the broncos.

Dixon's on the roster bubble so they wanted to get him some extra PT. I believe the thought is that Jacobs would get short yardage and Cartwright is the better special teams guy so Dixon could be on the chopping block. Who knows after yesterday as he looked pretty solid. Dixon is no threat to Kendall Hunter if that's what you're asking.

Yahoo reported that Hunter was "replaced on kick returner duties in the second half" of week 3. Link

What did he do to fall out of favor? I didn't watch the game, but I don't see any fumbles on his stat sheet this week.

First David Wilson, now Kendall Hunter....Strike 2. I hope Quizz works out. Rough year to have adequate backups.

You took these cuffs in the event that their injury prone/old counterparts went down. Were you expecting him to go for 100 yards on 5 touches? Hunter is still a hold, Gore will inevitably slow down.
