Is this a trick question? I think he will be better than Gbril Wilson and maybe even this year.BlueOx said:How long do you think it will be until Kenny Phillips starts producing numbers consistent with an IDP starting safety?I have him on my bench, but there are other free agents available with upside.
What is PFW?Pro football weekly? Not that I can find. PFW reports that Phillips is the likely starter.
Correct. What is PFW?Pro football weekly? Not that I can find. PFW reports that Phillips is the likely starter.
However the official Giants web sites depth chart shows Phillips being backup to Johnson.(Rotoworld) Kenny Phillips is now taking snaps with the first team, trading reps with Michael Johnson.Analysis: Phillips shined in New York's preseason opener, while Johnson gave up the team's only touchdown. It would be a surprise if the rookie first-rounder doesn't win the starting job, probably opposite James Butler.
Who started in week 3? That would be another way to try and find out if he is indeed starting or not.In any case it is hard for me to see him not getting significant playing time based on how well he has practiced and played.LE 91 Justin Tuck 99 Renaldo Wynn 95 Jerome McDougle NT 96 Barry Cofield DT 98 Fred Robbins 93 Jay Alford RE 97 Mathias Kiwanuka 71 Dave Tollefson SLB 55 Danny Clark 51 Zak DeOssie MLB 58 Antonio Pierce 57 Chase Blackburn 54 Jonathan Goff WLB 59 Gerris Wilkinson 53 Bryan Kehl LCB 31 Aaron Ross 35 Kevin Dockery 24 Terrell Thomas RCB 23 Corey Webster 29 Sam Madison 25 R.W. I wouldn't expect too early. No desire to give the opponent a heads up.prosopis said:When will we know that K Phillips is the starter?I have not found anything that says he will be.
He may not start the year but how long before he outplays Butler?Checked the game 3 game log and Butler/Jones started and both made tackles in the 1st Q. Phillips did not make any plays until the 3rd qyarter.
I'd say about 2 maybe 3.................series.He may not start the year but how long before he outplays Butler?Checked the game 3 game log and Butler/Jones started and both made tackles in the 1st Q. Phillips did not make any plays until the 3rd qyarter.
Don't you mean Johnson? He may not start the year but how long before he outplays Butler?Checked the game 3 game log and Butler/Jones started and both made tackles in the 1st Q. Phillips did not make any plays until the 3rd qyarter.
Yes thanks. FBG's already has Phillips as the starter. I doubt he'll be held back long.Don't you mean Johnson? He may not start the year but how long before he outplays Butler?Checked the game 3 game log and Butler/Jones started and both made tackles in the 1st Q. Yep, I am not expecting big numbers.everything I have seen shows him at FS.
Why? Gbril Wilson had 70-14 in 13 games. He was #13 last year.Yep, I am not expecting big numbers.everything I have seen shows him at FS.
I think the Giants had: Gibril--close to the line. SS. And Phillips--playing back. FS. I could be wrong, but I think he's closer to a centerfielder type than a hammer. Why? This is how I feel. I see him playing more deep coverage than close to the line, especially since the other safeties they have can't cover anything.I could be wrong, but I think he's closer to a centerfielder type than a hammer.
The Giants were surpised he was good at sideline to sideline coverage because at the U he was more of an in the box safety. I think he's versatile enough to do whatever they need.I'd say that you are not familiar with Phillips then. He's a hitter and very aggressive! Matter of fact, his coverage abilities are often overlooked because of the wood he lays on the field. The Giants have a very versitile type of safety that can either play close to the line or play back in coverage. He's not Sean Taylor, but is similar in the same type of game.BTW - Not a jints fan, but a 'Canes fan.![]()
Agree, he's versitile in that he can do either and I expect that the Giants will take advantage of that by playing up and back.bcr8f said:The Giants were surpised he was good at sideline to sideline coverage because at the U he was more of an in the box safety. That part may be true, but if he plays close to the line, they will have a huge liability in coverage because their other safeties are lacking bad in that area.Agree, he's versitile in that he can do either and I expect that the Giants will take advantage of that by playing up and back.
And that's why I think he will be at FS. I have no doubt he can play up, but I think his best value to the Giants will be deep.Anthony Borbely said:That part may be true, but if he plays close to the line, they will have a huge liability in coverage because their other safeties are lacking bad in that area.Agree, he's versitile in that he can do either and I expect that the Giants will take advantage of that by playing up and back.
Well, that is a good point because their CB's are surely lacking. Thus, they might not be able to move him around as much as they invisioned.Anthony Borbely said:That part may be true, but if he plays close to the line, they will have a huge liability in coverage because their other safeties are lacking bad in that area.Agree, he's versitile in that he can do either and I expect that the Giants will take advantage of that by playing up and back.
