Unless I missed it, I'm not so sure we can make that assumption just because Smith not Williams got the carries late. Hard to make that case when the team was being blown out and may just have wanted Smith to get his feet wet again.Keiland Williams averaged 10 carries per game when he was #2 on the depth chart. Kevin Smith has already passed him up.
So is Smith imo. I was all excited to pick him up when I saw he was signed too--but checked his numbers. In my league's scoring his best year was his rookie year, when he averaged 11.01ppg. That would be lower #2 RB numbers this year. Second year he averaged 9.10 and was out for the fantasy playoffs; last year he played 4 games and averaged about 4. I like the guy, and what he does for the Lions--but don't think he's all that much for my fantasy squad.Personally, I'm a Best owner and never bothered trying to pick up Morris in the first place. I picked up Smith the first moment I heard he was signed. Yeah, I'd drop Morris unless I was desperate for MoMo's solid 6-8 points a game. More upside with Smith IMO. Morris is a known quantity. Is he worth dumping Maurice Morris for?
He's playing in a significantly better offense now, and he's just 25. Morris is nearly 32 and has never had more than 841 yards from scrimmage in a season. He's a part time player and has just been a low end/low upside flex since Best has been out. I think people would be happy with low RB2 #'s from someone they got off the wire, and I think Smith could potentially do that and more. He's a lotto ticket that could win a league, with Morris you're treading water. So is Smith imo. I was all excited to pick him up when I saw he was signed too--but checked his numbers. Given that it's Rotoworld, I'm not sure I would put a lot of stock into it.That said, even at 3rd string, he still looks to be a better option than some starters out there.Per Rotoworld:Kevin Smith has continued to work as the third-string running back at practice this week.Source: Chris McCosky on Twitter![]()

Amen, brotha. The Bucs play the Packers IN Green Bay next weekend. This is how its gonna go down:Packers first 2 posessions Aaron Rodgers throws 2 TD's and the Pack lead the Bucs 14-0.I would still start Blount over Smith. But in deep leagues Smith makes a great flex play in week 11.At this point I'll roll the dice on Kevin Smith... He can't do any worse than LeGarrette Blount!![]()
Blount is never heard from again. Stat line 10 carries for 37 yards.
Sorry, I've seen this story too many times this year. Maybe I'll dust off Blount against the Panthers in a few weeks.![]()
Got this same lineup decision in my 16-team league right now...Battle or Kevin Smith (DMC, get back soon, please?). Been trading off between the two all week long - currently have Battle in there, with the news that Smith is running with the 3rd team. Still, Smith has a MUCH better matchup than Battle...im gonna take a shot on smith over jackie battle this week (f YOU, felix Jones, thanks for that!). I dunno...I just think that this week vs carolina the lions could run it 30 times. If they do and smith gets 10-15 carries and a few receptions he could bang out a decent stat line looking like 10-50, 1 td, 3 rec for 25 yds. Wishful thinking, maybe...but I like this kid. He is the most talented back on that team rt now. and even if best comes back he will be limited from here on in. SOMEONE has to become the bellcow for them. The door is wide open for smith.
Maurice Morris and Kevin Smith are getting the bulk of the practice work in his absence.http://www.freep.com/article/201111...-Jahvid-Best-likely-miss-fourth-straight-gamePer Rotoworld:

The chance of KC even sniffing the redzone this week vs the pats with tyler palko as qb is close to zero. So we can erase any TD potential for battle. We also know that battle is used very sparingly and takes a back seat to mcSUCKster when the chiefs are playing from behind. I expect the chiefs to get absolutely blown out by the pats. So yeah, why not take kevin smith's higher upside and lower floor over battles guaranteed 40 yds? know what i mean?Got this same lineup decision in my 16-team league right now...Battle or Kevin Smith (DMC, get back soon, please?). Encouraging news for MoMo owners. I have to start MoMo regardless with week 11 bye issues. As a Morris/Smith owner, I welcome Smith eventually overtaking him. "@vosher: @cmccosky Which RB is taking #2 reps, Williams or Smith? Cheers!" - Williams
ETA: 52 minutes ago - by John Kreger - RB Morris continues to take reps
RB Maurice Morris continues to take first-string reps during open practice. What’s surprising is that Keiland Williams remains in the second-team slot, despite recent lackluster performances. OC Scott Linehan has praised RB Kevin Smith's grasp of the offense, but Smith was limited to mop-up duty vs. Chicago, and hasn’t seen his reps increase. Lions RapidReports
There's no guarantee he's gonna get more than a couple of touches.I'm in need of RB. Is he worth a start? Someone already picked up Maurice Morris.

Good info, guys. Thanks.Sounds like a big gamble to start him, but maybe the Lions will get up big on the Panthers and he can get some meaningful touches."I thought he played good," Linehan said. He is a what the heck flex play now that we got an updated practice report. Against the second worst run defense in the NFL off an ### whooping vs Chicago last week, I can think of worse players to use. Plus Stafford has a broken finger on his throwing hand. Despite the practice reports that he is throwing well, it's still a broken finger. I would imagine the game plan involves running all over the Panthers then taking shots at Calvin since we all know he will get his.Debating dropping Jackie Battle for Smith and starting Smith this week. Currently have Sproles and Foster out on byes this week so I'm rolling with my Z team. Already had the fun of watching Lance Ball get me 3 points. I have a feeling Battle is lucky if he gets 8 carries for 30 yards. Where Smith could be solid against the Panthers and if Morris were to go down or fumble Smith could see a large increase in carries against one of the the worst rush d's in the league. Thoughts?
Maybe, but a lot of things have to happen for that upside to kick in.He's got more upside than Battle this week
Neither IMO'JD8p said:So...do you guys drop Mo Morris or Jahvid Best for him?
Very much agree. Smith got some garbage time at the end of a blowout, don't go overboard with what happened. I put him on my roster right after he was signed because I'm a Smith fan, but I wouldn't think of playing him until he has shown something in a full game. For those talking about starting Smith, you are taking a big gamble. Right now he might be worth stashing as a prospect if you have room, hoping that he'll get an increasing role and produce. At which point he'd become a hot target in leagues and you'd already have him. But until he actually does, or until the coaches say he will, he is a huge gamble to put in your lineup. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't take that gamble, but just know it is possible you get nothing from him.
DOH!He's worth a pickup but not a start, yet.
Based on these last two posts, I'm convinced that Smith is a solid flex play this week. Thanks!
Damn, I wish I would have had the guts to gamble with him. :(+1Glad I picked him up.Bummed I didn't have the guts to start him.

He looks much faster and more decisive in his cuts and hitting the holes than any other Detroit RB.Wish I had the chance to see him last week. Wish I saw him last week. Would have dropped Morris for him.Anyone watching the game? Stats look good I'm wondering if he looks good
