Keyshawn wants to replace Korheiser on MNF? (1 Viewer)

granted its just a rumor, but ANY rumor that involves removing Korny from MNF is worth noting. I know there are some that like Korny on MNF (and frankly, i can't see the attraction). He's not funny, not knowledgable, not interesting. Korny appears bored w/ the game until it's time for the celebrity interview. I like PTI, but hate having to listen to Korny on MNF.

KEYSHAWN WANTS MNF?

A media source tells us that there's a belief in Bristol that Keyshawn Johnson wants to replace Tony Kornheiser on the Monday Night Football broadcast.

Per the source, there's also a belief inside the building that Keyshawn's flirtation with a return to the NFL are indeed an effort to leverage a better situation for himself at ESPN.

Last week, reports surfaced that Johnson could reunite with Bill Parcells in Miami, either as a player or as a member of the front office. Also, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported that Johnson's agent was contacted by the Buccaneers about joining the team for the postseason.

The source thinks that the possibility of Johnson working for any NFL team in a job other than player proves that he's using the situation to help himself at ESPN. "He's not really going to go to an office everyday and work," said the source. "He's either on the field or in the booth."

I actually like Kornheiser. Key on the other hand is brutal to watch on ESPN. I think the guy just rambles on about nothing because he likes the sound of his voice. I don't like Key at all.

I didn't think MNF could do worse than Theismann or Dennis Miller...and then they hired Tony K.

Key has actually be surprisingly good on Countdown; he's well spoken and, unlike most of the guys affiliated with the show (including Steve Young), Key seems to do his homework before opening his pie hole.

I think almost anyone would be an improvement over Kornheiser. The exceptions being Emmitt Smith, Rush Limbaugh, Rosie O'Donnell and Joan Rivers.

I have always liked Kornheiser, first on radio show and also on PTI, but have been very disappointed with him on MNF. I agree that Keyshawn has been a pleasant surprise in the parade of retired players.

Definitely think that Jaws is the best addition to MNF in a while and Key could be an improvement over Tony.

I'm on the "anybody would be better than Korny" bandwagon. He's a wasted skinsack of bones and organs.

Jaws is great. Tirico is barely bearable and Kornhole......sucks.

I'll take a 2 man booth please. ESPN...can you please remember the game is the entertainment and not the clowns you continually hire. Call the game accuraelty and have someone in the booth who can provide an occasion intelligent observation. Choose good games to broadcast, the rest will all work out. I am soooo tired of the guys who just want to hear their own voice and say stupid stuff just for the sake of it.

I like him on PTI as well. However, I know what I am getting when I tune into PTI. When I watch a game, I want to watch the game and not hear his Schtick and the same lame Jaws Polish thing he always does.

Deion.

No really, hear me out.

I've heard Deion call a game for NFL Network and when he's just talking about football he actually talks about football.

Many guys would want that gig. Let Korny go, stick with two guys in the booth. Why do they think they three on Monday Night when they only use two for the playoffs and SuperBowl?

I must be watching a different ESPN game day show because i think keyshawn is horrible.
Thank you. Though all-in-all, I didn't seem to sepnd nearly as much time bemoaning announcers as many folks here do. Unless they are just absolutely horrid (and Gumble is the only one I have ever heard approach that level), I just don't spend that much time worrying about the announcers.

This [replacing Tony Kornheiser with Keyshawn Johnson] is like replacing pineapples on pizza with bananas... neither belongs.

But how long will it be before people start complaining about his ego, the way he puts down other players (to make himslef look better), or how he keeps mentioning USC every chance he gets. It will get tiresome very quickly.

I would prefer a 2 man booth with Jaws as the color guy,

but I would take Keyshawn in a heartbeat to replace Korn.

I was happily surprised with Keyshawn on the ESPN panel this season.

If I had my choice, it'd be Kimmel. He know his football well enough (let Jaws be the expert, they need a color man) , he's funny (with a broad appeal which was Miller's downfall), he's quick witted and is animated (unlike Korny)

I don't like Key either but he has been good on Countdown. Keep him there.

Kimmel's funny? When did that happen?

That may be the mythical "line being crossed" that would make me hit MUTE.

if kornheiser would stop trying to make everything into a "story" and just talk about the game he would be alot better

its like he tries to make a soap opera out of football and its annoying as hell

 Yes! Thank you.

I am in the neither camp. What I don't understand is why ESPN is wasting Steve Young. I think he is one of their top analysts. Put him in the booth.

they already have a very competant analyst is Jaws. Their "formula" is to have a play-by-play guy, an analyst and color guy for entertainment purposes. the color guy part is unnecessary and is probably there to make the game more palatable to non-hardcore fans and their wives.

I can live with that. Now you can put Keyshawn in Steves old spot then we can try and figure out what Emmitt and Key are talking about.

Im surpised people like Keyshawn on Countdown. I always thought he was horrible.

Why don't the MNF powers to be give JOHN RIGGINS a shot. The guys' insightful, funny and has half a brain. Maybe he's not goofy enough to counter balance Mr. "Vanilla PBP" Tirico and the yammering Jaws.

 Yes! Thank you. :lmao:
I second that :lmao: I think PTI is the best sports show on the planet, but PTI != MNF. Stop trying to be a journalist/reporter, and start trying to be an announcer.

Steve Young has the personality and charisma of glue. He is awful.

I like Kornheiser. I think he brings a good sense of humor to the booth. Jaws is the best there is at providing the football side of it and Tirico is arguably the best play by play guy in sports. I think this is the best MNF has been in years.

Key is going to be playing for the dolphins for the next two years.

Im sure thats exactly what Key wants. To be on a team that has no chance of the playoffs, let alone the superbowl, to have a horrible, inexperienced QB throw him the football, and to be able to say when its all said and done: "I was apart of one of, if not the worst NFL team ever assembled."

I never had a problem with Thiesmann / Patrick. They were great for the game because they brought genuine enthusiasm, passion, and energy to the broadcast. Thiesmann himself is almost like a "tool detector". If you hate him, you're probably a tool. They should just bring them back.

What you have to understand is that Kornheiser is unable to talk about the game, that's why he is always trying to find the "story" in the match-up. He actually prides himself on knowing diddley-squat about football so he tries to compensate by focusing on Personalities and Situations instead of focusing on the damn game. For some reason ESPN does not find this as insulting as the rest of us do.
