Killing Rampage near UC Santa Barbara (1 Viewer)

Im actually surprised he had the balls to go through with it. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall when he stabbed and killed his roommates, just to see how he did it. I'm betting it didn't go as smoothly as he saw it in his head. Probably a cluster#### of him going ballistic like a little kid throwing a tantrum with a knife, whining the whole time with spittle flying from his mouth.I hope he's not resting in peace right now, but instead being tormented by his own doucheness.

I watched the video and then read/skimmed through a good part of his manifesto. I highly recommend watching the video before the read so that you can read it in his nerdy maniacal little voice.

As a father of a 2yo boy I thought it was good to read because it opened my eyes to how important the younger years of a childs life are in forming who they will be when they are an adult. You could tell things like going through a divorce are difficult on all children, particularly ages 5-10 when they are forming their personalities and becoming self aware.

No doubt this kid was twisted from the beginning. He is the perfect example of a person with a Napoleon complex. I'm not blaming anyone but him, but you could definitely tell his father wasn't around enough.

It was just crazy how he would mention and kind of brag about things from his elementary/middle school years. Like how he was a world traveler, had an impressive Pokemon collection, was a level 60 at WoW. He took the most satisfaction in the positive attention that he would get from doing something. The only reason he wanted to skateboard was because he thought it made him cool. Like when he got invited to some skate party by a cool kid he didn't like and said something about "I bet they all were impressed with how good I was".

One thing that always jumps out to me about the whole nerd/cool kid thing is how the outcast nerds that want to be cool are so quick to call kids geeks, nerds, etc. They basically do / perceive kids the same way as they hate the world for labeling them. He basically hates all of humanity for not accepting him as cool, but he would then call other kids geeky. So he is guilty of doing the same thing he hates everyone for.

You could literally base a semester of college psychology on this psychopath.

Thank god he only killed 7 people. He fell pretty short of killing every girl in the sorority house. A twisted maniac like this guy could have gone Ariel Castro and spent years kidnapping and torturing girls.

Hearing the stories about other kids on here just validates my point about mental health problems. I know that we can't forcibly help people who refuse to be helped, and there are tons of kids with issues, but surely at least raising awareness of the issue is a step in the right direction, I hope.

He tried to follow his plan but ended up killing more guys than girls.http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/05/25/article-2638474-1E32820300000578-393_634x313.jpg

Actually, it's more like NPD. Similar to what MoP has.

I saw a message board post he made where he laid out a hypothetical about being able to kill all the guys on the planet so he could have all the girls for himself. Hefty assumption on his part thinking that all the girls would want him. Pretty sure they would all become lesbians.

I'm no doctor, but it reads like pretty classic NPD to me. Bonzai made a comment about it as well. NPD to the super super super extreme.

Expects to be recognized as superior and special, without superior accomplishments

Expects constant attention, admiration and positive reinforcement from others

Envies others and believes others envy him/her

Is preoccupied with thoughts and fantasies of great success, enormous attractiveness, power, intelligence

Lacks the ability to empathize with the feelings or desires of others

Is arrogant in attitudes and behavior

Has expectations of special treatment that are unrealistic

Wow this is spot on,

Two factors that cause self-view to remain unrealistic are dysfunctional interactions with parents that can be either excessive attention or a lack thereof. For example but not limited to, the excessive attention and lack of attention go hand in hand when a child’s parents are divorced. Usually, one is overindulgent (typically the one seeing the child less) and the other shows less affection.[6] The child either compensates for lack of attention or acts in terms of unrealistic self-perception.[10]

To me, it reads like NPD (plus maybe a crippling fear of rejection), but I've read in a couple places that he was a diagnosed schizophrenic. Not sure of the validity, but the comment wasn't out of left field.

There are high rates of comorbidity with these personality disorders. There are also elements of paranoid personality disorder in him.

Again, no doctor, but I don't see schizophrenia at all. His writing was very coherent, he was well groomed, well dressed, didn't seem like he had any hallucinations, was successful in school, etc.

 I don't either. But I'm not qualified to diagnose him. May have been misreported, but how would we know?

People who are narcissistic commonly feel rejected, humiliated and threatened when criticised. To protect themselves from these dangers, they often react with disdain, rage, and/or defiance to any slight criticism, real or imagined.[23] To avoid such situations, some narcissistic people withdraw socially and may feign modesty or humility. In cases where the narcissistic personality-disordered individual feels a lack of admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation, they may also manifest a desire to be feared and be notorious (narcissistic supply).

I'm surprised we haven't seen "gamer" in the headlines a little more. It seems like the media is always up for piling in video games as the cause when things like this happen. I guess there is just so much to unpack here that they will save those headlines for spin off stories months later.
Video games shouldn't be blamed, but games like WoW can be terrible for the mentally ill. As we saw in this case, it helped feed a deranged kid's 'god' complex while at the same time cutting off his interaction with peers. For adults or emotionally/mentally stable kids it's not as harmful but for kids like him it's a recipe for disaster.

Prepare to be bashed for blaming the parents.

Biggest thing that strikes me about the video is he keeps going back to the fact that he couldn't get laid. 22 and never even kissed a girl. As freaking odd and creepy as he was, that's not surprising. But he was also loaded and could easily afford a pro. Even a trip to an Asian massage parlor could have been a huge help, and possibly even averted this tragedy. It's puzzling why he wouldn't have pursued that avenue.

IDK, I'm reading some of his manifesto and it was when he quit playing WoW that he really broke from reality and came up with the ideas that his life's destiny was to ban sex. He began working on that instead of playing WoW.

A narcissist doesn't pay for sex. He's already put all of that money into cars and clothes in order to attract women.

I feel he had not been 100% honest with his "fans". There are important parts of his life that he did not touch on until the very end, such as his siblings and therapists. He was clearly a good liar when he needed to be. It'd be interesting to see if his public image is consistent with his diary.

This guy has multiple psychiatric diagnosis. I don't think it's just one. His problem wasn't not getting laid or no one liking him. He plain and simply hated humanity and everyone but him was a problem. He could have gotten laid (if the gal was totally wasted as I don't see how anyone would be attracted to him) and it would still be why is this beautiful girl with this geek and that geek.. They should all want me.

We don't know if he was on meds as he for sure needed to be on something, or maybe he was and he stopped them or never took them as he probably thought he doesn't need it and he's not the problem. Therapy is not effective until you can get someone like that stabilized on meds. He showed up looking "ok" but he wasn't. I don't know how you can stop/treat someone like this if he isn't acknowledging that he has a problem and that he wants help. Kind of like the alcoholic. Nothing you can do unless he realizes the problem and wants help. He may go to the AA meetings but unless he sees he has a problem and he wants help, nothing will change.

Sadly I honestly don't know how this can be solved. In this case it could have been prevented if the officers were allowed by law to take a look around, but what about other cases where things may be hidden? If you change the law about patient/provider confidentiality, you may find not only these folks not showing up but others who will now fear someone (like an employer, parents, etc) will find out. That's usually what patients will ask first on their first visit, if it is confidential. If you don't show/say you pose a threat to others or yourself in front of the provider, you can't release info.

As for gun laws, I think if there is a will there will be a way with these folks. Even with a database, there will always be "underground" places to obtain weapons. Kind of like drugs. It's illegal but you can still find whatever you want somewhere. But having a database would help, it just won't solve it all. Bottom line is if the person doesn't acknowledge he has a problem and wants help, there is nothing you can do. You simply can't force it on them.

The guy thought he was a genius and omnipotent and yet A) he didn't even know what a lottery was until he turned 18 and B) he failed the written portion of his driving test. He hated cool people yet desperately wanted to be cool. He hated women and found sex to be barbaric, but desperately wanted to have sex and get attention from women. He hated people that judged themselves as being above nerds like him, yet he harshly judged everyone all the time. I have no doubt people saw a much different person than he saw. That's the personality disorder in a grand sense, the individual perceives themselves and the world around them in an unrealistic and unhealthy way.

Anyone else sensing some latent homosexuality? Almost as though the overly dramatic extreme desire for hot blondes is masking his true nature.

Love the Asperberger's angle. That's obviously why he's a mass murderer.
It's the new "he listened to heavy metal music".
It's one aspect of several that contributed. And your analogy is terrible.

The more you post, the more I feel sorry for your students.
I would feel sorry for you face if you were here. Just kidding. No I wouldn't.
I am sorry for offending you delicate sensibilities. I wish nothing but great things for you and you family. I am so sorry and request you forgiveness.

After reading a lot of his manifesto there's no doubt in my mind that he was on the autism spectrum. That's not an excuse or to say that autistic kids will go on shooting sprees but it does highlight the importance of early intervention. I don't get the impression that his parents noticed anything wrong or tried to give him any guidance, too busy with their Hollywood lifestyles.

I read somewhere a family attorney announced he was diagnosed a "highly functional aspergers symptom child".

Can you imagine if he had actually landed a girlfriend? Talk about the boyfriend from hell. This guy would of undoubtedly turned into a stalker. The kind of guy the would be insanely jealous if she was talking to another guy, and obsessed over her FB friends.

I knew a guy exactly like this.

I read somewhere a family attorney announced he was diagnosed a "highly functional aspergers symptom child".
I've never heard of that diagnosis.

My wife and I suspect my 9 year old son has aspergers. I never knew what it was until I started researching his behaviors and it led me to it. He has the meltdowns when his expectations aren't met perfectly. Even leaving 15 minutes earlier than we told him we would results in a 30 minute meltdown. He's pretty quiet, but when you get on a subject he loves he talks about it for hours. He won't eat 99% of food, and has a meltdown if he isn't given the 1% he will eat. His 11 year old older brother knows how to pull his strings to set him off too. All he has to do is promise something and not come through on it, and WHAM! the house is filled with stress for the next few hours.

We've debated for quite sometime as to whether or not get him offically diagnosed. I know in light of what happened this weekend it seems like a no brainer that we should, but really it's not that easy. We've talked with those who have had their child diagnosed, and to be honest the help that exists out there really is much to speak about. There is no drug. There is no surgery. The mind is wired the way it is. It's no different than as was mentioned before about being left handed. There is no drug or surgery to make left handed people into right handed people. And really the problem isn't that they are left handed. The problem is the world is designed for right handed people to function in. Thus the struggle left handed people have isn't because they are wired wrong, but instead because the world favors right handed minded people.

And that's what many are concluding about the Aperger wired mind. It's not wrong. It's just that the world functions for minds that are wired different. Asperger minded people are very literal, but they live in a world that speaks very ambiguously. People don't mean what they say, and they don't say what they mean, and sometimes they communicate without saying anything at all. That is NOT how Asperger minds work. If you are in a meeting and say "let me throw something out on the table", a person with Aspergers will experience stress when ten minutes later you still haven't thrown something out on the table. Socially, the question "How are you" will be answered literally by someone with Aspergers, and the non-Aspergers person who asked it will be overwhelemed by the response that is far well above and beyond they "I'm fine" that is the socially accepted normal answer to that question.

Aspergers minded people expect the rules to be followed, where as the world seems to function that the rules exist to be broken, or they are just guidelines and are optional. This creates a situation where Aspergers minded people are technically not doing anything wrong, but piss off people around them. A good example would be the person who gets on the freeway, moves into the left lane and sets the cruise control to the speed limit. This pisses everyone using the freeway off, but no one can explain to him what he is doing wrong without getting into unwritten rules of socially acceptable driving. Aspergers minded people do not have a sense for unwritten rules, for non-verbal communication, etc, etc.. but this is how the world functions around them. Again, there is nothing wrong with the way their mind is wired, anymore than a mind wired to be left handed is wrong. Their problems arise from the world around them not being designed for how their mind is wired, but instead for a different wiring of the mind.

The way Aspergers minds are wired make them excellent are certain job types, like computer engineers and systems analysts. Henry Ford likely perfected the assembly line because of an Aspergers wired mind. But put an Asperegers minded person in a customer service role, where "the customer is always right", and it will be meltdown city. Because the Aspergers minded person will know the rules and no the customer is breaking them, and will be flooded with anxiety and stress having to make the customer feel right. Apserger minded people tend to be brutally honest, which customers percieve as being rude.

If this kid had Aspergers, then so what? So do hundreds of thousands of others. They don't need to be "fixed". Yes, life is harder for them, but not because they are broken.

Politician Spock, excellent definition of Aspergers. Best of luck to you and your family.

A narcissist doesn't pay for sex. He's already put all of that money into cars and clothes in order to attract women.
We all pay for sex in one way or another.

No, they don't need to be 'fixed' but they do need to learn skills to cope with life. This kid was shoved into the arms of a nanny and given everything he wanted instead of getting him the help he needed.

I disagree when you say "to be honest the help that exists out there really is(n't) much to speak about". ABA (applied behavior analysis) therapy is very helpful in changing behavior and helping kids handle their frustration. You should contact your Regional Center and get him tested.

"Mother always got me what I wanted, right when I wanted it."
That's a huge problen when the parents can't or won't tell a child no to something they want. Too often I see kids ruling their household because the parent doesn't want to deprive their little snowflake of something. Many parents today frankly lack the spine necessary to deny their children something they don't need, and that helps drive the narcissism present in them.
