Kitchen table. We need one. Willing to spend a lot for one that lasts. (1 Viewer)

We have had a Crate and Barrell dining table for 15 years, looks great still.  Vouch for the quality.

If I recall the table itself was ~$2000... where they get ya is on the chairs.

Do you have a good consignment furniture store near you?

These kinds of places often have very expensive, high quality stuff in perfect condition for a fraction of the original cost.

Much, much better than your going to get new at all but the most exclusive, high-end furniture places.

I'm also in the market for new furniture including a dining room set.  Used furniture usually goes for 30-40% of original retail, so we've been picking up quality stuff on FB marketplace.  It takes some patience for the right thing to open up, but considering the wait time we're being quoted by furniture stores it's kind of a push.

Cheapest way out is to figure out your neighbors schedule and steal theirs when they aren't home. Just remember to never invite them over for dinner.

Furniture is heavily impacted by supply chain nonsense.  Don't expect to get anything you want in a reasonable timeframe

When we moved to our new house, we needed a ton of new furniture.  We found E&G Amish Furniture.  They have some wonderful things.  Of course, you'd have to find a similar outfit in your neck of the woods, but it might be worth it.  You get to pick the wood used, as well as the finish.  And you get to make any alterations you like that the Amish dude is willing to go along with.  We sure did.

We bought an expensive Ethan Allen like 15-18 years ago for ~$2k (included chairs).  At the time I remember thinking how expensive that was.

We still have it.  Its in pretty darn good condition.  Wife thinks its old and wants to get rid of it.  I love it.

Sell it to the OP for $200.  Win/win!

As a kid I recall furniture trucks rolling by that were loaded with inexpensive wood furniture. You just had to catch them like they were the ice cream man, but it was quick and easy.

I second the Amish recommendation.  We bought a bunch of furniture, including our table, from http://www.rosesandoak.com/expressions/ 25 years ago, and nothing shows any wear - this will be generational furniture.  Ours is the third on the second row, and can be extended with 4 sections housed inside the table by one person due to some nice gearwork.  It turns into a ridiculous Thanksgiving table for multiple families when fully extended.

I’m lucky. We didn’t have a table for a long time, but finally got one at Pier One many years ago. Glass top (round) and black metal pedestal base that seats 4. The dining room table was recently inherited. It’s a teak MCM 2 leaf table and it’s awesome. If I were to get a dining room or kitchen table these days, I’d definitely go the Amish route. I have a triple dresser that is the nicest piece of furniture in my house and worth every penny as well as the wait to get it.

We’re in the market for a kitchen table and we want one that lasts. Wife wants a bench seat on one side.

Anybody have a recommendation?
Find a local or semi local furniture maker and have a custom one made.  Won’t be cheap but you’ll get way you want.

Or do what I did and learn yourself. Best decision (and hobby) I’ve ever made. I built my own dinning room table out of walnut.  Spent 2k on wood, have a table that would run 5k to buy and will out live me.

This.  You wont get it till next summer
Yeah, we ordered a couch last year. It came in three different deliveries, spaced out over the course of 9 months.

I think to get the best bang for the buck we’re going to look for something barely used that’s made of real wood. We’re close to some very affluent areas so we can toy with the zip codes on the next door app and the like as well as checking a few antique stores.

I'll third this. We got our kitchen table from Amish Reflections, and it is gorgeous, and sat in a foot of water for a day and a half when our house was flooded, and was absolutely fine afterwards.  Our older Ethan Allen dining room table was pretty much trashed.

We got our dining room table off of Craigslist about 12 years ago. A guy was making large tables out of reclaimed barnwood. He would put these things together and then paint the top black.

After the paint dried he would sand all the paint off and what remained was the clean barnwood but the paint stayed within the grain of the wood. He would then stain the top and the finish was awesome.

Anyway, he was going out of business so I bought one that was painted but not finished. Took it home, sanded the paint off, and then stained and poly'd the top. Incredible piece of furniture. Seats 10 people easily.

So you may look on Craigslist as well - not sure if you can find something interesting there.

Most poorly named brand ever.
The "Design Within Reach".....the "within reach" part I'm guessing in your mind means good design at a reasonable price.    What it means is you have access to all the top level designers from around the world in one place.   So, the within reach means "access" not "good price".

Just realized...it's funny- of all the Int Designers I've worked with and for- none of them used that place on the projects I've done.

The Amish furniture is not coming from overseas.  The wait time should be about 6-8 weeks, unless you order in the Fall.  They go hunting then, so it adds a couple of weeks to the time frame.  And as I said, you get to pick the wood type you want.

What are you planning on putting this table through that you have to make sure it "lasts"?
It’s funny you posted this—because when I first saw the title of the thread—I was thinking the same thing. I feel like every kitchen table I’ve ever owned has lasted just fine regardless of cost.  The only reason why I’ve ever replaced them is because of needing a different size or style due to remodeling.

Back around 2014, we purchased this kitchen set by Caperton.  It's been used hard and is still good-as-new.  Highly recommend.  I believe they're manufactured in West Virginia, but don't quote me on that.

Kids and dogs have wrecked our last two tables. The finish is worn and a few spots at the seams where its raised due to swelling from spilled drinks and everything else.  We have a lot of get togethers, we do Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other parties. The kitchen table is also where every school project is assembled and a lot of homework gets done.

Those are very boring reasons.  I was hoping for more of a "Friday Thread" story.....oh well.
