Nicholas J. Cotsonika, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions QB Jon Kitna is preparing for the 2006 season like he will be the starting quarterback. "To be honest with you," he said Wednesday, May 31, "I'm not even thinking of it like I'm going to be anything but the starter." Kinta is not seeing the battle to be the team's starter as a competition. "I'm not looking at it as a quarterback competition," he continued. "I'm approaching it as I'm the starter until somebody tells me differently. And so I'm not every day counting my completions. I'm not doing it. I'm just going out and trying to be the best quarterback I can be." Head coach Rod Marinelli has not named a starting quarterback, nor has he given a timetable for naming one, but Kitna seems clearly in the lead. He took the first snaps at the minicamp in April, and he led the No. 1 unit Wednesday. "He's doing a good job," Marinelli said of Kitna. "We just let it play out. That's all we're doing. All of them are doing a good job right now, so we feel good about it."
