Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash - TMZ (2 Viewers)

Thanks. The dfs i entered at DraftKings 50 times the night before without editing cashed nicely ($300, not much) but I thought it would feel good to do something like this. It's mambaonthree.org and I guess the servers are overwhelmed because I can't get there.

Not accepting donations yet, just allows you to enter an email address.

I think it was Shaq who heard Rick Fox was on board too. Poor guy frantically calls Fox, no answer. Finally gets the not me call from Fox.

Was just listening to a live interview with Danny Ainge. He said in his 40 years involved with the NBA, he never saw anyone with a better pre-draft workout than Kobe had at only 17. Ainge was head coach of Phoenix at the time and had hoped to take Kobe at #15 in the draft. He knew that would never happen when the Lakers traded up with Charlotte to get to #13. Ainge and the Suns had to settle for Steve Nash instead.

Had they figured out what they had in Nash, that would not have been a bad consolation prize. But after two years as a role player, the Suns traded him to the Mavericks for Martin Müürsepp, Bubba Wells, Pat Garrity, and a first-round draft pick (that was used on Shawn Marion . . . who had a nice run with the Suns). Of course, Nash returned to the Suns as a free agent later on, but they could have had him for a lot longer (and cheaper).

I see Levin is saying that TMZ got permission from Kobe's people to run the story.  And that the real issue is that the police leaked the story.

Because we all know in this day and age, if you do something wrong, blame the police or racism.

Last night, the Ducks (and Angels on Angels Night) honored Kobe.

Carter Rowney, #24, scored on the Ducks 24th shot of the game, in their 24th home game of the season, with 24 seconds expired on the penalty kill.  The Ducks won, 2-4.

Levin is being very careful with his words there.

John Gibson Kobe Tribute Goalie Mask

This Kobe Bryant tribute mask will be worn by John Gibson tonight as the #NHLDucks take on the Lightning at Honda Center. The mask features a silhouette of Kobe and his daughter, Gianna, surrounded by the names of the seven other victims of the tragedy. It also includes the years of all five of his championships and his 81-point game. The numbers 24 and 8 are prominently displayed on both sides of the mask.

ETA:  The last of the pics is awesome (back of mask)

Link for those who don’t have Facebook

Also, I’m not a hockey guy so I never heard of this dude but he has previously worn some super dope masks. Worth checking out. I like the Pac-Man one with holograms

That one interview with the guy that came from Alaska?  He paid over a grand for a single nosebleed ticket.  Damn.
I sold mine near the Laker tunnel. You wouldn't believe what I got but the season will be paid for before the all-star break. I've been to six home games. Sold the rest. I live two hrs away, btw. It's longer in traffic. Also on the same note, my biggest regret was selling his last game. Oof.

Are we allowed to have an extreme dislike for Usher’s Amazing Grace rendition during the Kobe tribute?  If so, I can’t express how much I disliked that.

When I last posted in this thread I was unaware that my physical trainer’s daughter, who played basketball at Loyola Marymount and is now a coach at a small private high school in Irvine, lost her best friend on that helicopter, a woman she had grown up with. My trainers daughter is the sweetest lady and I feel so bad for her.

This is some awful basketball.
Carmelo couldn’t even go to staples due to his emotions (rightfully so), so imagine being LeBron and the rest of the lakers having to carry on for all us fans. I wasn’t expecting game 7 of the nba finals tonight.

Fair enough.

*I stopped watching the NBA when Kobe retired so this is a bit different than I remember.

* (I’ve been to about a dozen Wizards games but we al know that isn’t actually NBA quality ball)

What'd you get for it?  Was it a single or seats together?

Everyone got both....Believe front is 24 and back is 8.
"Inside Staples Center, all fans on one half of the arena will receive t-shirts with Kobe’s No. 8 jersey, while fans on the other side will receive shirts with No. 24."

Right with you.  Usher is not Aretha.  WTF was that?

Also, Steve A Smith is an ######.

It was lovely of the crowd to chant Gianna's name, too.  Also that all the people were honored, not just the Bryants.

I grew up a Red Sox fan with extreme hatred of Yankees. After the Marathon Bombings, when the Yankees played Sweet Caroline at their stadium, it hit me suddenly that it had all been a silly sibling rivalry, and things that really matter transcend whose team you’re on. I’d suggest maybe taking a similar view now.
Kobe would have won last night.

In all seriousness, I just plain don’t like the dude. I can’t stand his woe is me, melodramatic attitude. I think he’s a racist. He flops. The man wears a toupee on his head. He is the antithesis of everything I believe in and represents an entire generation of softies that a self-admitted neanderthal like me just plain doesn’t like or respect.

That might show how I’m a flawed person, to which I am, but in this case, I’m perfectly fine with it.

I bet he knows what "antithesis" means.

I thought Lebron gave a good speech last night. Probably planned to throw the paper down on the floor but a good speech nonetheless. I turned it off after the game started because I just don’t care much about the NBA anymore.

Are there any plans for a memorial service, or has it already happened?
I don't mean any disrespect but it seems they've had around 800 or so already.

Thoughts and prayers to anyone who sat through it. That was painful.
