Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash - TMZ (1 Viewer)

Seems odd for people to dwell on such a simple mistake.
This. The world gives nobody an inch these days. Always desperately looking for an excuse to be outraged. Pretty easy to misspeak especially when you’re handling all sorts of breaking news at once, and I can’t imagine how many people she had talking in her earpiece. Sad world for so many reasons, the outrage over this is another example.  Why not focus on what actually matters?

Yep, it's clear she said Knickers (not the n-word), but I am sure people will blow a gasket anyway.  She misspoke and didn't even say what many think she did.

Of course she didn’t. Twitter is a dumpster fire. People think she actually intentionally said the N word, like, on purpose, on television, while doing her television job, and reporting on a huge breaking news story about a black professional athlete?

People are wildly obtuse.

And the people Tweeting at MSNBC over it and demanding that she be fired are monsters. This poor woman worked her whole life to get a job on MSNBC. You’re going to try and destroy all that over a plainly obvious mistake?

The world becomes more baffling by the day.

She tweeted an apology and I read a few replies. It strikes me that black people do not seem to feel the same way.

Not more baffling

Most of the world is filled with terrible people sadly

Lots of people need to work more, do something constructive with their families, or find hobbies. Why do all these people seem to be just waiting to pounce whenever someone makes a mistake?   There should be no reason to have to find reasons to be outraged at stuff in this world but outrage at someone misspeaking is just stupid.

Pretty classy of Shaq to include the other families when he tweeted out condolences earlier.
Gianna isn't being mentioned nearly enough. I get Kobe the basketball player but his 13 yo daughter too! Can't imagine, ts n ps to Vanessa, his other 3 girls and his family. Tragic

Kobe seemed to find the real joy in his life after his career ended, imo. It's a shame he didn't have more time to indulge in it. Tragic loss for his family, friends, and fans.

Inevitably this will end up being one of those "where were you when" moments.

I don't know why news like this hurts sometimes, but today really does.

Give your loved ones that extra hug today and be thankful for your time here.

Amen! Been saying this for years.

The people I ache for most are those girls. Your sister and dad gone in an instant. Thank god they at least have their mom and each other. So so sad.

Kobe retiring and the focus he had on his family is what I'll remember the most. Never thought I'd see that. He so loved his family. 😥

Very true, has that stunning feeling that OJ chase did. Like him or not he was a legend and a face of our generation for us early 40’s guys. So sad.

LA fire chief on TV just said it live during the official press conference. Won't be a link for a little while, but this is direct from the fire dept not from a reporter

Edit: may not have been the fire chief, but it was whoever was the main speaker for the official press conference
I was listening to this as well and he definitely said 9.

Yeah, I think it's a little messed up that no one else isn't saying the names of all the victims. It's not like it's a hundred names to read off.

Natalia and Gigi were close. Kobe and Vanessa were a fairy tale couple no one thought would make it a few years ago.

I found it really odd the way the sheriff in the press conference called out TMZ for being irresponsible in.... accurately reporting the news? Isn’t that, like, what they’re supposed to do?  He was mad that they released any names before the coroner finished an autopsy. Just weird, they obviously had reliable sources and accurately reported it.

Here is Southern Cali—I just read a report that the baseball coach from orange coast college, his daughter and his wife were on the helicopter. Im not confirming this—just passing along what I read/heard. Alyssa, Keri and John altobelli

He was not upset for an accurate reporting of the news—he was upset that TMZ released the names before the next of kin were contacted.

I am seeing the name John Altobelli as one of the other victims. Baseball coach at a California community college. Along with his daughter.
Wondering if this is a kid of Joe Altobelli who is very well known in the Oriole organization.

Irresponsible for naming Kobe as victim before telling next of kin probably

I understand why he’s upset about that but no media organization in the world would sit on that. Impossible to even consider.

Not sure. I wasn’t. The sheriff seemed to be. 🤷‍♂️
The way I took it as I listened to him was that giving the names what was not what he was up there to do and they were not going to comment on that until they had info from the coroner.

He also said they were 9 people on board.

Hadn’t most people sent condolences before the names of the other victims been released?

If they actually know who, no.
Yeah but I guess that’s kind of the rub with breaking news like this with such a high profile and popular figure.

Only thing I have seen from officials and not “news reports” was that the manifest of the flight had 9 names listed. Don’t even think they said Kobe actually but could have missed that part of the announcement.

Don’t want to muck up the thread, it is an interesting and tricky subject though - how news gets out in this age of being able to reach so many people so quickly. We have become so accustom to being able to find everything out so quickly just by looking at our phone for 5 seconds.

Anyways, just such a sad event.
