Rookie Not Thinking Long Term

He's already thinking about not being there next year.

"At the moment, in my mind, I always thought I signed up for one year," Kornheiser was quoted in Friday's edition of the New York Post.
Can I get an AMEN?ONLY TEN MORE TO GO! (I Hope) :banned:

The whole booth is pretty abysmal. I would get rid of Mike Tirico as well. He is a much better golf announcer...he just looks bad...what is with that sandtrap splacth of wannabee hair in the frontal area of his head...just shave that crap already.

I said this in another thread, but never really got any answers...

Am I totally alone in that I have never really disliked any announcer? There are surely ones that I like a lot due to their humor, but to me its about the football game and the announcers really don't matter much.

I mean, I do get a bit frustrated if an announcer is being way biased(for example I was upset when the announcer way overreacted when Randy Moss mooned the Packers crowd) and its very annoying if an announcer is blatantly wrong about a rule(for example sometimes an annoucer will claim that a coach should challenge a play that is not challengeable by rule).....but other than that I really just don't care at all.

I've always found it weird how most of you all care so much about announers. I've listened to guys that everyone thinks are great and I've listened to guys that everyone constantly complains about and I've listended to guests in the booth that everyone seems to make fun of...and I've never cared one way or the other.

With that said, I definitely do care a lot about sportscenter achors or pregame show hosts...I care here because you're mainly watching these shows for commentary and analysis. But I watch football games to make my own analysis mostsly.

Just my 2 cents...

It doesn't matter who they put in the booth... there will always be plenty of people who gripe and ##### about it.
Maybe - but I think that number would go way down with Nessler, Jaws and Vermeil - based on the 2nd game of the opening week doubleheader.

Assani is spot on.

Most of us here tune in to watch football, regardless of who the talking heads are. ESPN/Fox/CBS/NBC will do whatever they can to draw additional eyes in who don't care as much about the game. If that means pre-game shows that are screaming and hype, in-game celebrity interviews, or in-depth personality profiles...well, the football fans will hold their noses and watch anyway. They've got us by the short hairs - we'll watch because its the only game in town, and the networks will ignore us because they know that.

Sucks for us.

ETA: djcolts, I agree - that was one of the best broadcasts I've seen in years.

:hey: Vermeil talking about AFC West teams was :moneybag: I really enjoyed those announcers as opposed to not really caring or being annoyed.

Honestly there is so much non-football crap going on in the booth, that Korny is almost the least of the issues. I thought once we were off a regular network we'd be done with the guest pimps, but I guess not. It's still partially about shilling for shows and movies and not football.

Kornheiser is just annoying - and it's (IMO) annoying in a pleading 'look at me look at me!' kinda way. He just tries too hard and the schtick that serves him OK during PTI is unbearable over the course of the game. Plus he complains way too much about having to travel and such -- dude, you have a great job, you're freakin blessed to be there -- shut the #### up or get out!

I don't love Terico or Thiesman, mind you. But at least they seem to wanna be there.

Just my opinion. There are those who love him -- he courts a demo ESPN likes.

And the replacement could be Rush Limbaugh again. :P

Agreed. That was the first time in a long time that announcers actually added to my game experience. I really liked them.

Cornholer must have pics of some ESPN exec with barnyard animals cause he isn't there for skill and ability.

i didn't register to read the story, so admittedly don't know the context of the quote. but possibly, he's protecting himself if he's not asked back or if he doesn't want to go back. He seems to have had a thin skin about the criticism he's received and he really does not look comfortable in the booth. he may want to be one and done.

My thought is that Korheiser is just laying the groundwork in case he is not asked back. He is not good. Of course, Theisman is worse.

One and done for Joe would be music to my ears!!!

It does not matter who is in the booth. ESPN has taken the Football out of MNF. It use to be about the game, it isn't anymore. ESPN has made the game a spring board to any number of their self serving interests. I don't want to watch Baseball highlights at half or listen to Spike Lee's opinion on anything. Does anyone else remember when there was nothing bigger than the game.

Yes, and it goes on and on and on.

Didn't they used to interview celebrities back in the day? I recall seeing Howard Cosell interview John Lennon.

If Tiki does retire, I think he would be good. Getting rid of Theisman would be addition by subtraction. The other guys don't really bother me, though. I generally just try to tune them out, especially when it's someone I don't like/respect much.
