Kris Jenkins to the Rams (1 Viewer)

Great move by the rams here. Quality DT that wont have too many question-marks. And one that can start immediately.

In terms of Draft changes, perhaps the Rams may try and make a play for Patrick Willis or hope he falls. Reggie Nelson might be a potential pick at this point but dont discount OT Levi Brown going to the Rams at this pick. Perhaps they might even trade down for extra picks and snag a DB or OT Joe Staley at a lower spot.

YESSS!

props to thewick for reporting this earlier today in the rams offseason thread...

i wrote below response in that thread, regarding how such a move might change (or not change) their upcoming draft plans... if the rams have a solid, good looking draft & look good in the pre-season, we could see the over/under moved upwards from current 7.5... :)

as a rams fan, i hope they could pull this off... his upside is worth rolling dice on player that missed most or 04-05 seasons...

among STL local beat reporters, bernie miklasz characterized interest as lukewarm, yet jim thomas said STL would make strong offer...

most of players reported to be in play at this spot still could be... except for maybe branch (skill set too similar)... okoye is more penetrating 3 technique UT... with jenkins & okoye (groomed to replace aging glover), team could turn a positional weakness into a strength in a hurry... carriker could play on inside, & probably has quicks to be penetrating DT (mayock has him in top 10 & said he reminds him of howie long)... carriker could also of course play DE, as could jamaal anderson, & little is 33 & hall is 30... revis or hall at CB are possibilities, with revis holding attraction of being able to upgrade ST & return game... ginn may be of interest for same reason, & he could be groomed to replace bruce, who is in mid-30s... even with addition of bennett, rams don't have a lot of depth at WR position, & could be a chance to get top 10 talent at bargain price... impossible to tell if linehan talking about ginn is apparent smoke screen or not (reverse psychology?)...

I'm not sure how you can say Kris Jenkins doesn't come with question marks. If he lived up to his potential, then the Panthers wouldn't be giving up on him. The guy has question marks in terms of work ethic and injury troubles. Oh... and perhaps drinking and maturity too based on this find from MSN:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8077502/

If Jenkins can get himself back to the player he was early in his career, then the Rams did well. I think they overpaid somewhat though.

with holt, bruce, pace & little (four of best players) north of 30, the rams see 07 & 08 as opportune times to make a concerted push to make playoffs...

they have added bennett & mcmichael on offense, hall & now jenkins on D & ??? (okoye, carriker, anderson, revis, hall, ginn) with 1st rounder... if jenkins is right (mentally & physically), he could be a difference maker that is worth the risk... point taken if he is drunk, fat, lazy &/or injured, in retrospect we may so DOH! but extremely unlikely they could get a player (in mid-2nd) who would make as much of a ripple through impact on rest of defense/team... especially RIGHT NOW...

not only will he collapse pocket & change dynamic of pass rush, but he will make spoon & 5-0 more effective in run game...

he is only 27...

pro personell lead tony softli just came from CAR & probably has a pretty good idea of what they were getting... it would seem unlikely trade was made over his protests, & he may well have been instrumental in making it happen...

Carolina wants a 1st, St. Louis offers a 3rd, and they meet in the middle for a 2nd.

I'm ok with this. Jenkins gives the Rams a bona-fide run stuffer that they have been without since I can remember. Gone are the days of smallish, two-gap DT's, bring on the beef!

BTW, I really, really think that Linehan wants Ted Ginn with the #13. He plays down his interest when asked about it, but the Rams purposely left a draft workout open for Ginn, who came by a couple days ago for a workout. Ginn is what the Rams need, a dynamic WR who is exceptionally proficient at returning kicks and punts, something the Rams haven't had since Tony Horne. Plus, with Ike Bruce on his last legs, Ginn will be a dynamite slot receiver in the future.

i agree, though WR may not be critical need with signing of bennett... but the ST boost could be worth the price of admission... :)

than again, just think how much better DL could be compared to 06 with the addition of hall, jenkins & potentially (add one)... okoye, carriker or anderson... maybe a few new starters to give little some much needed help!

* if they do get ginn, the rams will have improved in all three phases of the game in the offseason... the more i think about it, i hope they do get ginn... very possible he is there at 1.13 (hope a team doesn't trade up to snake him, if that is direction STL chooses & the target they have identified)...

Hey, if the Rams get Okoye, they will have La'Roi, Jenkins, Wroten, Kennedy, and Okoye to split time at DT, although I wouldn't be surprised if Kennedy got cut. Plus, I've heard Okoye would be at least a passable NFL DE. Thing is, though, now DT isn't really a need. Carriker has been mentioned more as a 3-4 DE or an interior lineman. Personally, I think a Hall/Adeyjanu tandem at DE with Little on the other side would be just fine. I liked what I saw out of Victor last season.

our buddy Josh Buchanan says Softli loves Jenkins and really went to bat for him to get him drafted in Carolina.

i'd like to get official confirmation of this before uncorking the champagne...

if schefter is reporting this, he is in my experience very reliable... on a rams homer board i frequent, there was a link to report that local beat reporter bernie miklasz claims to have contacted FO & quoted them as saying it hasn't happened... hopefully they meant YET...

Any word on this today? Like Bob said I'm ready to uncork the champagne :headbang:

I'm hoping for Willis or Revis at #13, them skinny little legs of Ginn worry me

FWIW...the rumor on the Panther sites is Jenkins for a 2nd and Klopenstein...I have no idea if/what deal they have in place, but I'd be surprised if he was dealt before the draft since someone at the bottom of the first may have some interest as the draft unfolds since his cap number this year is a decent 3.5 million for the team that acquires him.

2nd and Klopenstein... now thats not a bad deal.. really for 2 2nds..And compared to this yr TE class, Klopenstein would of been #2 TE off the board anyway..

I'm not seeing anything mentioned this morning on any of the news/rumors sites I frequent. Weird, if it was reported on NFL Network last night, that it wouldn't at least have a mention somewhere today by now.

We should have heard something by now. I doubt Klop would be it the mix to.

Last thing on this over at PFT said the Panthers were holding out for a first round pick (which I don't ever see happening...)

I just read over at the Panther forum that this will happen IF the Panthers are happy with what they get in the draft.

Has this been on NFL network recently, they do news every 1/2 hour.

If that's true...it leads me to believe they are targeting DL with their first pick...if they get the guy they want they'll let Jenkins go....otherwise he may stay.

I think the Panthers need a safety really bad. Mike Minter is retiring after this coming season, and he is about all the Panthers have in terms of experience in that position.
