Ladarius Green's value (1 Viewer)

Yeah this is awful. He's getting no looks. I guess he's on the bench until Gates gets hurt. He'll lose you more games than he'll win you. Lol SD! Good job good effort.

He was wide open on that last pass to Allen too. Seems hard to cover when he's actually running routes.

Not on the field when it matters late and they have to pass. I've seen what I needed to tonite. Droppable in most formats if you need help elsewhere or when the byes hits.

Haha well at least SD got the ball into their fat non explosive TE Gates. What a game changer that guy is. Looks like they're going to lose too. I wonder why? GJGE!

Absolutely ridiculous that Green only got 2 targets. What does he have to do to get more involved?

Yeah looks like he's not in SD plans this year. Only the Chargers can explain why. Pretty obvious they're happy letting Gates be their play maker.

Throwing to Gates isn't the problem - it's throwing to Royal 6 times to gain 20 yards. Use Green in the slot, it's not complicated.

Yeah well it looks like SD doesn't agree. Again if they want to leave one of their best play makers on the sidelines half the game........well i guess as long as they win that's all that matters right? Oops!

From the "SD TE Situation" thread:

Draft Green but don't expect to utilize him until the second half of the season. Give yourself a contingency plan for the first 8-10 weeks. OR don't draft him and buy low around week 3 or 4.
Hang in there, fellas. He will win you some championships.

Ladarius Green - TE - Chargers

Ladarius Green played just 24-of-62 offensive snaps in Monday night's Week 1 loss to the Cardinals.
Green was asked to block on 17 of those and ran just seven pass routes, catching both of his targets for a total of 24 yards. The Chargers mind-numbingly continue to prefer to use Eddie Royal as their slot receiver. He caught just 1-of-6 targets against Arizona and dropped three passes. Green would be a matchup nightmare out of the slot, but coach Mike McCoy seems to be the only one who doesn't know it. Green will likely block a ton in Week 2 versus Seattle.

3.4 YPRR for Green and you throw it Royal.

I'd still stash him since he becomes start-worthy if Gates goes down, and if the Chargers continue to look mediocre offensively I bet you'll start to see him more involved even with a healthy Gates. It's just going to be tough to keep that patience in 12 team redraft leagues once the bye weeks start to hit, but for no I'm holding.

I'd say with the the Chargers' center going down for the year, it doesn't help the situation.
Agreed. Reminds me of a number of years ago when the Cowboys had a decimated OL and Witten had a down year in receiving stats due to his need to block. Greene obviously hasn't produced a fraction of what Witten has, but the point remains that a TE often needs to block first, catch second.

Does this bump Gates then? Possibly more 2 tight end sets with Green staying in to block and Gates running all the routes or over thinking?

I am just happy I have Green and Gates in my only league I have Green. I see the frustration growing though
Yes, me too. I did start Gates this week after going with Green last week. I think we stick with Gates until he is doubtful or Out of a game.

Perfect example of people over reading potential and advanced stats and not paying attention to context.

Folks actually wanted the #1 TE through 2 weeks benched. LOL

Ladarius Green owners: fantasy does not equal reality. He apparently is not quite playmaker enough to beat out a 40 year old Gates. Torch is not being passed anytime soon. Deal with it.

Droppable in redraft. Strong hold buy in dynasty.
I used to be in this camp, but I'm becoming concerned that there's something going on that we just aren't seeing.
The Chargers said earlier this week that the needed him to block and as we saw today Rivers still has a connection with Gates.

If the Chargers has lost today then you could question him but the game plan worked.
It's not my point, but how did the game plan work out last week?

Everyone knows that Rivers still has a connection with Gates. My concern is, he clearly doesn't have one with Green, so why would he become a stud if Gates was out? His value would obviously increase, but I think the connection with Gates is more due to the specific player, not just the position.

Gates is 34. You might want to check your facts before making bold statements.

For now, Gates is still the man. Longterm, I still like Green.

Hall of Fame tight ends can play a long time in this league. Shannon Sharpe, Tony G might even come back later this year.

Yeah he's a hold in dynasty but I'm not anticipating any return on my investment this year unless Gates goes down. Green is just not involved offensively at this time. Gates could play like this for another 3-4 years too.

Gates has a near $10M cap number next year and they can save $5.9M by cutting him. If Gates is still playing like this at the end of the season he should be back, but if he tails off then they could cut him.

If he tails off, they will restructure. He is one of the greatest players in franchise history, he is Philip's best friend on the team and his most reliable target. He is still playing at a Pro Bowl level. He will not be cut.
