In first 4 games, LGreen isn't just auditioning for a larger role in 2015, he is playing for a contract in 2016. Could become very coveted

Chargers' Antonio Gates suspended 4 games: 3 things to know
Excerpt:
Who will fill in?
It'll be Ladarius Green's show in those four games. Green has often been touted as Gates' eventual successor in San Diego, but -- somehow and someway -- Gates has continued to produce at a relatively high level, which has delayed the process.
Other than Gates getting cut/traded, this is the best case scenario for Green owners. He'll have all of training camp to prepare as the starter and we'll have a good idea in those four games how good he really is. If he can't produce with the like of Malcom Floyd and Stevie Johnson to contend with then he's not very good. This is best case scenario for Green as a value pick. If Gates retired, we'd probably see Green drafted in Rounds 6-8 which is way too high IMO. The threat of Gate's return after his suspension is a very real danger to Green's value as well so I think this news will result in a fair valuation of Green in terms of using a draft pick on him and expected return on investment.
This hype train has been going on way too long. Green has 4 weeks to impress or he's going in the Jared Cook pile.
I don't know, Gates is eligible to participate in every single off-season and preseason activity, so there's no reason to think he won't continue to run with the starters. Green will be rotated in with the 1's to get ready for those first four games but he didn't just become the TE1, in name or practice snaps.Other than Gates getting cut/traded, this is the best case scenario for Green owners. Unless you believe Green will parlay this audition into a Martellus Bennett-ish opportunity moving forward, isn't this the exact right time to sell?Been holding for this long, not going to sell when he's finally going to get some targets again. He's been severely under-utilized in SD but I expect him to shine in these 4 games and force the Chargers to give him a decent role.

Ladarius Green has seen more than 3 targets in 5 career games & posted 3.4-66-.40 (on 5.4 T/G) in those games. Those are solid TE1 numbers.
Wow...2.10 seems so cheap to me. I wouldnt have sold him for that prior to Gates suspension. Young freak athlete with an old, PED using, suspended player in front of him, in a good offense with a top end QB. Dude has shined every time he has had a chance - just happened to be playing behind a HOF player. Nothing less than a first round pick would even tempt me personally.Sold him last week during a rookie draft to the Gates owner for 2.10. I was short at the RB position (and long at TE) and took RB David Johnson. Also, small roster (19) was taken into consideration. At the time I thought that was pretty good value. Still have two more shares in other leagues. I will probably roll the dice and see how he performs in August and the 1st four games of the season before deciding what to do with him.

I probably wouldn't have sold him if Johnson wasn't there and I had a need at RB. But I also got tired of seeing him sit on my roster (especially with a roster so small...19 total that includes a D). Hard to have three TE's (couldn't really even count on him as a bye week fill in before this season) with only 19 players. Oh and I forgot. This is a Superflex so I have to carry at least three starting QB's. So in the end it came down to roster management and needs. And I picked Green up off waivers at the beginning of 2014 so he really cost me nothing.Wow...2.10 seems so cheap to me. I wouldnt have sold him for that prior to Gates suspension. Big, big fan of Parker. He got downfield a lot in school, which would fit here. The Chargers would have a big athleticism advantage up the seams if Parker were to somehow grab the inline role (he was an OT before a TE), with Green sharing the slot with Johnson.Brian Parker, SDC TE ... super sleeper. Extremely athletic. Sound familiar?
He has to make the roster first, which seems very unlikely barring injuries.Justin Howe said:Big, big fan of Parker. He got downfield a lot in school, which would fit here. In fact, the Chargers may have an interesting ace at play here. Green could be very, very effective if used situationally on the outside. He brings X qualities for a TE. With both Allen and Johnson playing inside - where both ideally belong - this passing game could make some sense.
Yeah, I would have guessed that he might have had an outside shot at TE3 because Phillips is overpaid but now that Gates is suspended I don't think there is any chance Parker makes the roster without injuries. If Green were to get hurt I don't think they are going to make that big a gamble on someone completely unproven logging major minutes for the first month of the season. He has to make the roster first, which seems very unlikely barring injuries.Big, big fan of Parker. • Reich said in June that should tight end Ladarius Green stay healthy, "I'd be shocked if he didn't have his most productive year." Notably, the comment came before he or the team was aware of the news that'd surface in early July: tight end Antonio Gates is suspended the first four games of the season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. Thursday marks the first practice since for Gates, who is eligible to play in the preseason. Green then will see a larger role in his absence. The Chargers are prepared to rely on a group effort, including what they expect is an improved run game, to help mitigate the loss.
20/377/3... would be his most productive year. So yeah, I would be shocked(and already was last year) if he didn't out-produce that.Chargers camp primer: Seeing Butler days

I don't think there's any fooling in play this season, though.Fool me once...
He WAS dirt cheap. Before the suspension I thought he was a nice late round flyer in the mid-200's if you had production in front of him and were focused on upside in your backup. At the mid-100's where he is being drafted now he is surrounded by players with upside that won't be playing in a TEbc for 12 games.I don't think there's any fooling in play this season, though. All owners have been asking for is a chance to see him suck or swim on his own merits, instead of the whim of the coaching staff. Thanks to Gates, he should have every opportunity to provide us with that.Fool me once...
Because so many people have been burned, it's dirt cheap to take a look.![]()
They've been seeming to mix him in with Gates. Though from the game-plus-a-little I got to see, he and Rivers just didn't appear to be on the same page at all, even when Rivers did attempt to target him. A lot of going to the sidelines together after the drive, with Rivers making wild gesticulations showing him what he should have done. I'm not confident. Much more confident Allen/Woodhead/StevieJ get a nice boost for a month.Has he been playing with the starters in the preseason?

This is not encouraging, though. Damn it. I wanted to think that with the four week audition they'd realize what they'd been missing and just never look back. If he can't hold off a 35 year old Gates with a permanently bum foot (plantar fascitis) after getting a 4 week head start then he's never going to get it. He's so cheap that I'm still going to buy that lottery ticket, though.
If they don't make him a big part of the offense now with Gates out thean it's unlikely they ever will. What do you mean by the bold?
