Lady Chris Henry's status with NFL (1 Viewer)

I keep hearing that Henry is in deep #### with the NFL, and rightfully so, but does anyone know when his hearing is scheduled for? Or when the NFL plans on making a ruling? Anything regarding the timeline?

As a TJ owner, I'm looking to make a deal for Lady Henry as an insurance play, but depends on timing of suspension. If it is soon, I'll likely wait to make an offer until he gets suspended to get him on cheap. But if the hearing is a ways off, might try to make a move now.

Anyone have any info on this? All I ever read about is a "probable" suspension........

No one knows because...a) one of the two actual convictions was substance-related which are usually handled differently than other criminal actsb) the NFL has said they'll wait until all the cases are resolved before deciding on any actionBut Henry's got at least a chance of skating on the remaining charges. --IIRC there's a problem with the breathalyzer in the DUI case and the evidence may have to be thrown out. If he's convicted on that one there's a standard 4-game suspension.--One of the key witnesses in the other remaining case accused Henry of rape, but that's since been debunked and she's had a warrant sworn for her arrest (I forget if it's a false police report or another charge). He's still in trouble on that one for taking the young girls to a party in another state though.More generally, he's a bonehead without an ounce of sense. So I wouldn't bet on him beyond whatever point the/his season ends. But if he can get past the current cases he'll probably be solid for 2006. Could still be facing a 4-game suspension, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a one game vacation either.

Thanks for the info. Was realtively clueless. So sounds like he has a good chance of playing a full season. (Assuming Palmer doesn't hang him out to dry again like he did in Pitt. :)

I read this morning on cnnsi.com that he could be in trouble with his probation officer in Florida, since it appears he had been drinking when Thurman got busted. The judge told him to stay away from alcohol.

Gotta love the hatchet piece in the Cincy Post today. Apparently riding in a car with Odell Thurman is a crime now too.

Stupid, yes. But we knew that already. The reality is that his only new woes today are with the Bengals' PR Dept.

The guy definitely falls under the old quote of "Million dollar talent, 10-cent head."

From KFFL:

Bengals | Henry may have violated probation

Tue, 26 Sep 2006 13:54:46 -0700

Kevin Goheen, of the Cincinnati Post, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry, who was in the vehicle when teammate LB Odell Thurman was charged with a DUI, could be charged with violating conditions of his probation. In a prior court case, Henry was ordered to stay away from alcohol by a judge when he was released from jail after being arrested for providing alcohol to minors. It is still unclear as to whether Thurman's incident could cause more problems for Henry.

He's screwed. Three strikes in 1 year on a team that is full of thugs. The NFL will make an example of him.

Missed the earlier bit about violating parole. Could be a problem with the judge.

But the NFL can't just decide that riding in a car after a few drinks (or blind wasted) gets you suspended. They'll throw the book at him if they can (rightfully, IMO), but not for this one.

They can hang him for violating his probation I believe it's in the CBA that violating your probation on a substance abuse violation is like another violation. I'm not sure, but can anyone else clarify?

The parole wasn't on a substance abuse issue. The case in Florida was the stolen gun waving case. And I believe the earlier DUI case was resolved without probation after he completed some sort of education class on drinking and driving.

But dear god it's hard to keep up, so I could be all wrong.

btw...for someone so damn dumb he seems to be awfully good at finding all the gray area/loopholes.

sorry, I gotta ask: Lady Chris Henry?

did I miss something?

As for the topic, one report said he threw up out of the window when stopped. Nice. I'll find the link if I can.

Edit to add link:

Chris Henry was in Odell Thurman's car when the linebacker got a DUI, and threw up out the window of the vehicle.

Another classy moment in Henry's career. Thurman, whose locker has already been taken down with the Bengals, said he was only driving because Henry and Reggie McNeal, the car's owner, had more to drink than him.

STONE HIM!!!!!I know the guy's track record is less than stellar, but this is hardly news worthy and doesn't warrant any discipline action from the league.

Nice Jump to Conclusions mat you've got there. :D I never said he should face disciplinary action for this, just thought it was amusing is all.

Almost as amusing as this "Lady Chris Henry" business...

That's not fair. I hardly think it's just to say they're full of thugs when it's really only been Henry and Thurman that have been making report-worthy trouble. I know you'll say that a number of players have been arrested/involved in certain activities, but let's look it: Nicholson was arrested for something, but who freaking cares? He's a nobody that won't ever play (I don't even know if he's on the team or not). Askew was proved innocent, then cut. Steinbach had a boating DUI that was never really followed through on, maybe a fine, but who doesn't drink when they're boating? Rucker's case was from college and has been fine since then, and Ahmad Brooks had weed issues in college...who doesn't? I know that's a lot of players that have been in some form of trouble, and I'm sure less than most teams, but I hate to see players like Palmer, Madieu Williams and Rudi who have done a lot of good for the city get lumped into the thug category because of a few boneheads stupidity. I blame the Steelers. :D
