The police want to talk to a young black man in Louisiana and the word murder is involved? And you question him getting a lawyer? So are guys saying that every single person the police ask to talk to regarding this should hire a lawyer?
And everyone should hire PI?
Boren said he has retained the services of a private investigative firm to help him prove that Collins was not close to Mills' home when she was murdered.

"Am I being detained, or am I free to leave?"Hint - he doesn't have to (and shouldn't) cooperate. It's never a good idea to cooperate without being compelled to do so in an investigation.
You can't be this naive.I would at least talk to them and say where I was that night, especially if I did have a solid alibi like his lawyer claims.I know that if police wanted to question me about the murder of a woman I was sleeping with, I'd get a lawyer. Do you really think that you wouldn't?He immediately lawyered up instead of talking to the police. That's suspicious to me. You weren't there and have alibis, tell the police directly if you have nothing to hide.Police have confirmed he isn't a suspect and he's provided alibis already from my understanding.
This isn't an Aaron Hernandez situation. Why would hit stock drop for knowing a girl who was shot?
Honestly, whoever broke this story should be hit with a brick upside the head for even trying to cast doubt on Collins in the slightest way without knowing the facts. The most important day in this kids life is coming up tomorrow and he's confirmed not to be a suspect, why try to ruin his draft stock?
Yes. Avoiding police questioning in the murder of your "baby momma" for DAYS does equal guilty. So getting a lawyer and not talking to cops = guilty? Some of you are scary statists.
Pretty sure he's not eligible... believe supplemental draft is for underclassmen who did not petition to enter the NFL draft and become ineligible for their next season of college ball after the NFL draft ends.bumpbumpCan he withdraw from the NFL draft and re-enter the supplemental draft?
What was it I quoted from cstu? Thanks. We all thought he was innocent.I was right from the beginning about Hernandez.Glad you're on the case. This thing should be solved by tomorrow.![]()

Of course, that information by itself won't hold up in court...
...but in the court of common sense, he killed that girl or knows darn well who did.

yeah, stupidity isn't anything new to this one.Yes. Avoiding police questioning in the murder of your "baby momma" for DAYS does equal guilty. So getting a lawyer and not talking to cops = guilty? Some of you are scary statists.

I'm thinking this thing is kinda a disaster for the victim regardless. No way this guy clears himself by tomorrow. If he's innocent, the police just cost him millions of dollars. If he's guilty, it's a disaster for the victim, her family, and the NFL.
She's dead, Jim!I'm thinking this thing is kinda a disaster for the victim regardless. No way this guy clears himself by tomorrow. If he's innocent, the police just cost him millions of dollars. If he's guilty, it's a disaster for the victim, her family, and the NFL.
Yikes I guess I must be ruled in too.His lawyer wouldn't say he hopes Collins is 'ruled out' as a suspect if he's not currently 'ruled in'.
Yeah, that was pretty stupid ordering in a sentence. My bad. It's tragic for her and her family either way.I'm thinking this thing is kinda a disaster for the victim regardless. No way this guy clears himself by tomorrow. The police spokesman sounded pretty laid back about the whole thing. He sure didn't imply that it was a big deal that they hadn't connected with Collins yet.Are some people suggesting that the Baton Rouge police ordered him in for questioning immediately, and he blew them off, that he is some kind of fugitive from questioning. I asked this before, and the best cstu could come up with was a news station text. Not quite the same thing.
If they haven't called him (how hard could he be to reach, at the draft?), and the media asks if he has called the police, it would be truthful and consistent within the known facts for the police to say no. We can't infer just from that alone, that he has blown off a direct order to appear for questioning ASAP.
If he really was a chief suspect ( as a gumen), wouldn't he have been brought in already, one way or the other?
“There are numerous other people who are going to be interviewed,” said Lt. Johnny Dunnam, a Baton Rouge police spokesman. “So he is one of many.”
Dunnam said police are aware Collins and Mills were associates, but the extent of the relationship between the two wasn’t immediately clear. Police tried earlier this week to reach Collins, and investigators are now working with Collins’ agent and attorney to schedule an interview, Dunnam said.
If I'm innocent and have alibis, sure, why not*You can't be this naive.I would at least talk to them and say where I was that night, especially if I did have a solid alibi like his lawyer claims.I know that if police wanted to question me about the murder of a woman I was sleeping with, I'd get a lawyer. No rush, just a murdered black woman in Louisiana. The police spokesman sounded pretty laid back about the whole thing. He sure didn't imply that it was a big deal that they hadn't connected with Collins yet.
Can't bring him in when you don't know where he is. Best thing is to be calm, act like he's not a suspect, and nab him when he comes in for questioning. Are some people suggesting that the Baton Rouge police ordered him in for questioning immediately, and he blew them off, that he is some kind of fugitive from questioning. * He may have hoped to take care of this after the draft, for obvious reasons (people are talking about a possible top 10 prospect roughly 24 hours ago now being possibly undraftable). If he is innocent, and wasn't directly asked by the police to report for questioning immediately, it isn't that sinister or nefarious to me that he would have gone to Chicago, in the absence of such a formal request.
Exactly. Can't bring him in when you don't know where he is. Best thing is to be calm, act like he's not a suspect, and nab him when he comes in for questioning.
He was at the draft. Only about 30 million people or one of every 10 Americans knew this. It isn't like he is a Russian double agent working undercover gone to ground after his cover is blown. Can't bring him in when you don't know where he is. You guys need to stop. All reports were that he was in Chicago. I'd expect it to not be hard to find a top prospect a couple of days before the biggest moment of his life thus far.Exactly.Can't bring him in when you don't know where he is. Are you and cstu really this naive? You never talk to the police about something like this without a lawyer. Guilty, innocent. Doesn't matter. The smart move, and your constitutional right, is to lawyer up and not provide info without counsel.Yes. Yes, it is his constitutional right to have a lawyer present, but why has he STILL not cooperated with the police? And hiring a P.I. to "prove" you weren't there?! Really? Why not just tell the police where you were and then hire the P.I. if need be?Are you and cstu really this naive? You never talk to the police about something like this without a lawyer. He's acting like a smart man with good counsel trying not to let this extremely poorly timed news ruin his chance at millions of dollars.Yes, it is his constitutional right to have a lawyer present, but why has he STILL not cooperated with the police? Collins is acting like a man who expects to be arrested. Collins is acting like a man who is guilty.
I halfway expect to see him riding down the highway in a white Bronco any moment now.

Happens every day. The PI is the only unusual part, and its because he's on a clock with millions at stake.A completely innocent man does not act this way. He's acting like a smart man with good counsel trying not to let this extremely poorly timed news ruin his chance at millions of dollars.

Generally, I don't believe in reports of players rising/falling on draft boards this late. But I believe it with LSU OL La'el Collins.
I don't care about my constitutional right - if there is absolutely no way I'm involved in this and have an airtight alibi then I'm not worried at all about talking to the police.ConnSKINS26 said:Are you and cstu really this naive? Can also say this -- There are teams that won't draft La'el Collins until this thing is cleared up. So it'd behoove him to talk to the cops.
I asked earlier if he had refused questioning by the police. You mentioned a text from a radio station. You can appreciate the difference, right? He left the draft and should be en route to talk to the police. Retaining an attorney in a murder investigation is not necessarily "proof" of something nefarious or sinister going on. There is this new thing called wrongful conviction. Watch the doc Thin Blue Line sometime. Somebody was put on death row just because of nothing more than false testimony from an unreliable witness.I don't care about my constitutional right - if there is absolutely no way I'm involved in this and have an airtight alibi then I'm not worried at all about talking to the police.ConnSKINS26 said:Are you and cstu really this naive? Bro, you must watch way to many cop dramas. I don't care if his only tie to the girl was having been seen in the same town as her 3 months ago. If the police called him in for questioning guilty, innocent it doesn't matter, you lawyer up. ESPECIALLY when you're a potential Top 20 draft pick in the NFL. You're watching WAY WAY WAY to much Bones and CSI if you think that someone saying "I'd like exercise my right to legal counsel" is in anyway a cause for concern. This isn't NCIS, there's no "DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN" music playing in the background when he said that, in real life you lawyer up, always. Cause even one slip up in your wording can result in months of legal investigations into you when you know full well you're innocent.I don't care about my constitutional right - if there is absolutely no way I'm involved in this and have an airtight alibi then I'm not worried at all about talking to the police.ConnSKINS26 said:Are you and cstu really this naive? You should ALWAYS lawyer up when talking to police. Especially when it involves a felony.
