Yeah, and I didn't mean to nitpick hypotheticals.
I
am driven to distraction by those that want to solve the QB problems by grabbing some lesser prospect later in the draft, or the infamous "Vet QB". I'm actually not down on Plummer as a stopgap, but I'm not sure I want to invest a day 1 pick in him. For that matter, not even their pick at the top of the 4th. Beyond that, where's this mysterious vet QB? Not applying this position to you, just a general pet peeve of mine.
And adding a QB later, like a Drew Stanton or whoever, along with a vet, let's say Plummer, is just going to muddy the waters. Is Stanton the QBOTF? When do he and Walter get to duke it out? In practice, when Plummer is getting all the reps? By investing a top pick in a QB, you are making a statement. If Phillip Rivers was a 3rd round pick, might Brees still be in San Diego? I think it's possible.
I don't think Jordan is a dynamic runner, and would love to see Marshawn/Turner/some rook next year joining the backfield. I can live with a Jordan/Fargas combo right now. It's not great by any means, but I can live with it. Getting Turner next year would be interesting, and considering how many teams have solidified their backfields, and that two more will come April, it seems a very possible destination.
I do think it's too early to say what they should do for sure. FA has just begun. Moss hasn't been settled. The comp picks haven't been announced.
If they trade Moss for a 2, get a 3rd for CWood, they are looking at 6 picks by the 2nd pick in the 4th round. Who knows, if they trade one of those #2's for Shaub, and add a Chris Brown to the RBBC, maybe CJ is the man.
Course, at that time, I'll probably campaign for Joe Thomas.
