Lamont Jordan staying in Oakland (1 Viewer)

Am I the only one to think Jordan is an idiot for restructuring? He coulda got better money by getting cut.
I disagree. Jordan would have found himself mired in a deep pool of other RBs (e.g., Lewis, Brown, Rhodes) that have as much, if not more, value than Jordan at this juncture. And the number of teams looking for starters continues to dwindle. He's lucky to get another shot with the team - restructuring and still getting great coin was the only plausible move for Jordan.

Not sure what you're referring to, but please expand...

Moss is the guy to get traded. Porter is on board with the new staff, doesn't have a unfriendly contract, and has always been perceived as a Davis favorite. He's staying, for better or worse. He's not a #1, but a decent #2. He'll never be a favorite of mine, but he's one of those guys that probably has more value to the Raiders than anywhere else. Because if teams start trying to decide what his trade value is, they'll see a guy who hasn't gotten along with Gruden
I guess I was working under the misapprehension that Gruden liked Porter and would be more interested in him than Moss. But if not Moss will do (he'd probably need to redo his contract, but it sounds like he's willing if it'll get him out of Oakland). It would be a perfect Raider story for them to resurrect Plummer's career and have him fired up to play the Broncos two times a year. He's also one of few guys who could live behind that offensive line and possibly still make plays.
Regarding Turner, or whoever, there's a million ways to skin a cat. There's backs all over the place. The NFL is littered with them. Right now, there's more backs han starting jobs, and we have AD and Lynch about to enter the draft. A bunch of different scenarios could help them at RB. I was never on the AD bandwagon, and I never really thought he was a consideration at #1. Re-working Jordan confirms that, in my mind.
Totally agree with all this. I just figured swiping Turner from the Chargers is Al Davis' style, so it fits.
Regarding the QB's next year. I dunno, but are any of them as highly thought of as Quinn was after last year? If anyone was doing a mock draft after last season, they were penciling Quinn in at #1, right? Is Brohm (or whoever) a better prospect?
He may be. Not many were talking about Russell at this time last year, certainly not to the degree they are now. Guys emerge, and as I keep saying I think there will be opportunities to get a QB at a similar talent level next year if that's needed. The above was all totally goofy hypotheticals, I'm not taking it too seriously except the part about the Raiders making the most of their current opportunity by either taking Calvin or trading down and getting more depth.

Yeah, and I didn't mean to nitpick hypotheticals.

I am driven to distraction by those that want to solve the QB problems by grabbing some lesser prospect later in the draft, or the infamous "Vet QB". I'm actually not down on Plummer as a stopgap, but I'm not sure I want to invest a day 1 pick in him. For that matter, not even their pick at the top of the 4th. Beyond that, where's this mysterious vet QB? Not applying this position to you, just a general pet peeve of mine.

And adding a QB later, like a Drew Stanton or whoever, along with a vet, let's say Plummer, is just going to muddy the waters. Is Stanton the QBOTF? When do he and Walter get to duke it out? In practice, when Plummer is getting all the reps? By investing a top pick in a QB, you are making a statement. If Phillip Rivers was a 3rd round pick, might Brees still be in San Diego? I think it's possible.

I don't think Jordan is a dynamic runner, and would love to see Marshawn/Turner/some rook next year joining the backfield. I can live with a Jordan/Fargas combo right now. It's not great by any means, but I can live with it. Getting Turner next year would be interesting, and considering how many teams have solidified their backfields, and that two more will come April, it seems a very possible destination.

I do think it's too early to say what they should do for sure. FA has just begun. Moss hasn't been settled. The comp picks haven't been announced.

If they trade Moss for a 2, get a 3rd for CWood, they are looking at 6 picks by the 2nd pick in the 4th round. Who knows, if they trade one of those #2's for Shaub, and add a Chris Brown to the RBBC, maybe CJ is the man.

Course, at that time, I'll probably campaign for Joe Thomas. :goodposting:

Trade down to get an extra day one pick and draft Joe Thomas, and I'd be one of many with you. Of course, there are alot of hypothetical's that would have to occur before that scenerio starts sounding good to me.
