LaMont Jordan Updates (1 Viewer)

Jordan was quoted as saying "this is as bad as his back has ever been." Thats not good news, IMO.

Exact quote: "This is the worst it's been in years," Jordan said Thursday. "I really can't remember it feeling that bad, as it did in the Miami game, but it's getting better. I'm not going to say I'm 100 percent or anything like that."

FYI: link was being screwy, but I tried it enough and it did work.
The link worked fine. Thanks. I am posting the entire article here in case it doesn't work for some folks.
Raiders running back LaMont Jordan is intent on returning to action Sunday without having missed a game. So much so that he received a pain-killing shot in his back.

Even so, he isn't sure he'll be able to play against the San Diego Chargers.

"This is the worst it's been in years," Jordan said Thursday. "I really can't remember it feeling that bad, as it did in the Miami game, but it's getting better. I'm not going to say I'm 100 percent or anything like that."

Jordan was hurt late in the second half of the Sept. 30 game at Miami. He missed the rest of the game and needed crutches in the locker room. He has experienced back pain off and on in recent years. He said it has bothered him since the first day of training camp this year.

He practiced Wednesday for the first time since his injury but was unable to make it through the entire set of drills. Thursday, he showed some improvement, by all accounts.

"I ran a lot better today," Jordan said. "Really, it's just a matter of how things go (today) and if the coaches feel comfortable with me getting out there."

If Jordan can't play, Dominic Rhodes and Justin Fargas are ready replacements.

Rhodes figures to boost the running game, which leads the league with 194.2 yards a game, and give the team options in the passing game.

"Right now the game plan is we run the rock, that's what we do," Rhodes said. "I think it'll be more in the passing game where they get me out, one on one with

people and try to beat them on deep routes, option routes and stuff like that."

Raiders Coach Lane Kiffin wants to be careful with Rhodes. The idea of moving him around on the field to create mismatches is tempting, but not at the risk of compromising the offense.

"The guy hasn't played yet and so the last thing we want to do is put a bunch on him and try to do too much," Kiffin said. "He's not even right yet with just the basic stuff."

• Fargas isn't concerned about who is rushing: "We're all capable of getting the job done," he said.

• Kiffin wasn't optimistic about the prospects of defensive end Derrick Burgess (calf) and defensive tackle Gerard Warren (thigh) playing Sunday.

Warren missed his third consecutive practice with an injury he sustained eight days ago. Burgess has missed Oakland's past two games. He suffered a setback Wednesday, according to Kiffin, but still attempted to practice Thursday.

"We're prepared to go without them," Kiffin said.

• Quarterback Josh McCown (toe) also did not practice. Linebacker Isaiah Ekejiuba (foot) practiced but was unable to finish because of lingering pain, he said.

I'll say it again. This is something that will bother Jordan all year. It seems like he's intent on playing, but this injury (back) is something that cannot be rushed, it WILL get reaggrevated possibly on a weekly basis if he continues to insist on playing. What this means for the running game in Oakland? A cluster F of backs who are going to share carries. Jordan is the starter until he hurts his back again and then Rhodes will come in to take over and Fargas will be there for insurance.

I think this week Jordan will likely miss the game. Rhodes and Fargas will split 50/50 until the game gets out of hand and they have to throw the ball every down. If that happens Rhodes has more value as he is a WAY better receiver than Fargas.

Should be interesting.

RB Doubtful Oct 12 back Likely will not play

Latest News:

LaMont Jordan (back) is listed as doubtful for Week 6. This basically puts an end to any hope Jordan may have had of playing at San Diego. We suspect Dominic Rhodes will start and share carries with Justin Fargas. Neither would be a good fantasy play in a difficult matchup.

Yeah I saw that. Well I guess my team gets a boost, seeing as I have Rhodes. Not like I was gonna sit him anyway, not with Sjx and Henry boffing me this year.

I can't stress this enough.. Rhodes I am not sre is in game shape yet.. Fargas going to be involved a little more then normal because of it.. Lookig like neither a strong play but of the 2 I would use Rhodes before Fargas for Goalline reasons alone..

I can't stress this enough.. When you're starting RBs are Steven Jackson (broken baby maker), Henry (bye or prison), or Pittman (broken life), you have no choice.

Jordan manages to carry load, sore back and all Injured RB accounts for 88 yards of offense; no further damage done

SAN DIEGO -- With Dominic Rhodes returning from a four-game suspension, LaMont Jordan nursing a sore back that knocked him out of the second half in Miami, and Justin Fargas coming off a career day, the Raiders' backfield was a mystery. Most expected the three halfbacks to share the load in some way.

Instead, it was all Jordan.

Rhodes gained 5 yards on his only carry, and it was negated by Robert Gallery's hold. Fargas ran twice for 10 yards and caught a 16-yard pass. Jordan, toughing it out, rushed 18 times for 42 yards, caught six passes for another 46 and rarely left the field.

"I didn't know what to expect," Jordan admitted afterward. "I told coach (Lane) Kiffin when he asked me, I said, 'Coach, I can go. I don't know how much I'll hold up, but I can go.' The back held up. I felt it throughout the course of the game, but nothing serious to where I felt like I was gonna do further damage."

Jordan said that after practicing Thursday, he figured Friday would be the key. He felt all right that day, so he suspected he'd be ready to go Sunday. The running back sounded a note of gratitude to Kiffin and the Oakland trainers, who left the decision largely in his hands.

"I never felt pressure from the coaching staff to rush back," Jordan said.

"And this is the first time since I've been in Oakland I didn't get pressure to come back. . . . They didn't make me feel as if your job is in jeopardy. As a player, that makes you want to get there even more."

I see they have a lot of faith in Rhodes & Fargas. As expected, Jordan is the clear cut #1 in Oakland as long as he's healthy. This should never have been a mystery.

Yesterday's game should comfort some LaMont Jordan owners who were concerned about a RBBC. As long as Jordan stays healthy he'll be the main man at RB. Great buy in redraft leagues.

:porked:Huge buy-low right now. Did okay against the Chargers off his injury, but the best part was seeing him not get a TD. Trying to trade for him in every league you can might be a good idea if you get the right price.

Honestly, the knowledge that it can flare up at any time (especially in the first quarter of a game, which would kill his fantasy owners), still worries me. That said, yesterday's game was very very nice to see, but let's see how his back feels on Monday morning.

They couldnt have been more wrong

It was that statement that made drop Wynn and get Rhodes. Not like Wynn set the world on fire, but he scored. Now I'm thinking I have an utterly worthless Dominic Rhodes on my team.

Oh well, you pays your money, you takes your chances.

from http://www.ibabuzz.com/raidersblog/ :

– LaMont Jordan was moving well in the locker room Monday and not in any apparent pain after 24 touches against a hard-hitting San Diego defense.

Dominic Rhodes, meanwhile, as tactfully at possible, said he wasn't thrilled with his one snap (negated by penalty) after returning from a four-game suspension.

"I don't like being on the sideline. That's just how it is," Rhodes said. "I think I'm pretty good at this game. If I'm sitting on the sideline I'm just not doing what I can do. Period."

– Kiffin said he was fine with Rhodes being upset. He wouldn't want it any other way. He said game circumstances never allowed for a change-of-pace back.

Found this interesting, particularly the bolded. I think this about spells it out for Rhodes role, as long as Lamont can remain healthy. It will be very interesting to see what happens with Bush though.

Thanks for the link. Great to hear as a Jordan, both with regards to his back and Rhodes' role.
