I read a few conflicting things, any clarity out there?

** Jene, read your article, what i'm understanding is that with Wash going to Tampa 2, that those certain players will suffer?

There's a whole lot of ifs and maybes and hedging in that blurb unfortunately. Here's what we know:Gregg Williams became interested in the Tampa-2 and has been using more frequently going back to the second half of 2006. Earlier in the year, it appeared he was using it as much as 50% of the time -- aligning Marcus Washington off the line rather than on the LOS as was more common in the past. That was despite Sean Taylor being the best roving FS in the league. Safeties in the Tampa-2 struggle to make bunches of tackles against the run because they align well off the line of scrimmage. There are guys that succeed despite those limitations, however. Mike Brown, Donte Whitner, Bob Sanders -- guys that are instinctive and quick enough to get to the LOS or a deep receiver in zone coverage. My best guess:Williams uses at least as much Tampa-2 and probably more. There's no way that Prioleau or Doughty will cover as much ground as Taylor. It's probably not a stretch to think that the Skins will play more Tampa-2 to use Fletcher to help, especially if Marcus Washington isn't healthy. Landry's skill set compares favorably to that of Brown/Whitner/Sanders and is the kind of guy that can succeed regardless of scheme. But his stat line last week after Taylor left last week isn't reassuring. Knowing that he might not be roaming the box, get fewer blitz opps and tackle opportunities isn't reassuring. The rub:Williams' first love was an aggressive, detail oriented 46 scheme. If Washington is healthy, he's got a bunch of active, athletic two way players -- including Carter, Griffin, Fletcher, McIntosh, Landry and a couple of corners that can handle man coverage for reasonable periods after the snap. Landry's value will at least stay where it's been if they go in that direction. This week's quotes haven't given much direction and I didn't get the Redskins game last week to see what adjustments they made after halftime. So I'm preaching patience with Landry. But, if he has another poor statistical week against a Cowboy team that runs the ball more than you'd think and has an excellent TE matchup (assuming it's scheme related), you have to consider moving on in a redraft situation./hedge over

as always great stuff, football guys and its forums offer the best IDP insight on the web, since its the last week for pick ups in our league, i, unfortunately, cant be patient...maybe a testimony that scheme and opportunity trumps "talent", thanks again

Good stuff, Jene.

I wouldn't have said this over a year ago, but what we've seen out of Williams in the last 12 months has been for him to emphasize coverage over pass rush, particularly against good passing teams with good QB's. Dallas is obviously one such team. I think the blitzes are going to be limited and there's going to be a lot of Cover-2 on Sunday.

Taylor is a major loss, one that's not necessarily obvious to the casual observer. When they haven't gone with the classic Cover 2, Taylor's played a deep "centerfield" position and he's literally rangy enough to reach either sideline on a 20+ yard pass if need be. There have been only a handful of such deep passes this year, and even fewer attempts down the center of the field with him in there. Teams no longer try this because Taylor will get to it, and he's the rare FS who is as big and athletic as any WR he's up against, and yes that includes Moss, TO and anyone else you care to mention. As a rookie in 2004 he went up with Randy Moss step for step on some deep throws and totally held his own. Historically, Taylor has taken great pleasure in abusing those and other star WR's to make a point. Back in 2005 IIRC he beat the hell out of TO in a hotly contested game. As a 'Skins fan I'm very afraid that this game on Sunday is going to be a blowout.

Overall, with Taylor out, I'd expect Landry's numbers to suffer because they'll need him back in coverage more. Fletcher and McIntosh should remain strong IDP's. The CB's may benefit some with more tackles, but the D-line figures to take a dip.
