I'm thinking I should bench Roman Harper and start Landry the rest of the way. This guy is all over the field. He ended up with 9 solo and 4 assisted I think. Kid is legit.
"I wish I could have got 30," he (Landry) said. "Like I said, this defense enables me to fly around, read my keys and I can just play ball instead of just sitting back in the middle of the field, trying to get action. This defense enables me where I can go really get it, and not mess up, get beat on double moves. I'm closer to the ball, I can just read my keys and fly, and that's what I love about it."
Landry was very effective last night and was used the way he should be used - as a pursuer to the football. His pursuit and tackle on one of the Cowboys receivers to prevent a first down was exceptional. Jim Haslett is playing the 3-4 the right way and Landry could even approach big play numbers like Darren Sharper of last season if the Skins can stay competitive in games.

The team was too impacted by the loss of Sean Taylor and the feeling that they needed to replace what Taylor gave them, which was an incredibly rangy, fast and athletic "centerfielder" type of FS. Frankly, nobody can do that like Taylor did. Ed Reed is not as heavy of a hitter and can't quite cover as much ground, and Polamalu is more of a FS/SS blend than Taylor though he flies around like Taylor did. Landry is a step below those two guys, but is even more like a SS in terms of more instinctively wanting to break on the ball and hit someone. Putting him into a pure coverage assignment where he simply reads like Taylor did takes him away from his strengths. Unlike Blache (who not coincidentally IMHO was a holdover from the Gregg Williams defense that had Taylor in it) Haslett has broken free from that mindset and has built a defense that allows play makers like Orakpo and Landry to do their thing. Landry doesn't figure to have a huge number of "big plays (FF's and sacks will be what he provides, how often we'll have to see) but he'll be a tackle machine all year IMHO. .
