Larry Fitz to be a FA next year? (1 Viewer)

Nothing to see here. Fitz wants to be a Cardinal for life, and there is NO WAY the organization doesn't lock him up.

if they didn't make all the improvements this off-season I would see Fitz cutting bait; but he got what he wanted and unless they finish dead last I highly doubt he leaves

Fitz will chase the money. He stays in AZ. I don't see the lack of a Franchise tag as saying he doesn't want to be a Cardinal but rather he wants a contract. Arizona is known for Franchising players (Dansby) but when it comes down to it we have no problem offering our players big contracts.

I think it all comes down to Kolb. If he's the real deal, then Arizona will be competitive and he'll stay. If not, he'll probably move on.

THere was some talk of this at the end of last year and the discussion then was

1)he would walk if they didn't get him a legit QB....stay tuned on that one.

2)lot of thoughts that the Chargers may make a run at him and let VJAX walk..

I can see the Bears doing this. They targetted Cutler and Peppers and went hard after them. When we are talking uber-stud talent at a position of need, and considering the Bears pretty much kept their salary cap healthy for next year by doing quite a few 1 year deals, they will have the $ and flexibility to do this.

Cutler and Peppers are the reason they can't do it.

Cutler will count about 10 million against the cap....that isn't too much for a QB at all.

Of course he "wants" to be a Cardinal for life -- as long as Arizona pays what he thinks he's worth. And if the Cardinals don't pay up.......you can bet that he'll sign elsewhere.

As a few others have said, the Cardinals have said for the past couple weeks that their number 1 priority is getting Fitz a long-term contract before the season starts. The talks are not moving fast enough for any Cards fan, but according to the team and Fitz, talks are progressing. I would be VERY surprised if this did not get done. The Cards would never live it down if they don't resign him.

Why would Fitz not explore FA? Even if he blew out his ACL he'd still get offered a pretty great contract. Sure he'd lose a lot of money but he'd still get a deal that sets him up for life.

Why would he want to remain on a scrub-team with an unproven QB? I'm talking about resigning before season starts.

He'd be crazy to not test FA at this point. How much more money would he make over his lifetime if he goes to a winning team in a major market? Dallas, NYG or LA Chargers?

The upside in playing the contract out far outweighs the downside IMO.

Bears are !$20M under the cap this year and will be in a very good position next year too. Jerry Angelo has done a very good job in front loading a lot of the FAs that we signed like Peppers; Chester Taylor etc. So their impact to the cap is minimal in the future. Just for eg: Chester Taylor counted ~$7M to the cap last year and now his cap hit is not even $1M this year. Players love it since they get the guaranteed money early and the Bears love it since it keeps them in good ca shape for future. Win-win negotiation strategy

I could be wrong here, but doesnt Fitz's contract prohibit Arizona from franchising him after this season?

The Jets are saving some money this year, it wouldn't surprise me to see them make a run. Plax and Mason are on one-year deals, Fitz and Holmes would be a damn near unstoppable combination.
