Did he lose the team and deserve to get fired? Certainly. But when I saw that Wade Phillips was actually 12 games over .500 it made me wonder when the last time a coach with that good of a record was fired (both overall and within that particular tenure). Thinking about it more - Shanahan I'm guessing?

Tom Landry probably has the most wins: 250-162-6 when Jerry Jones fired him.

Don Shula was 257-133-2 with the Dolphins - but he stepped aside.

The best record a fired coach had probably is Paul Brown. 111-44-5 when Modell fired him (that's just Brown's NFL coaching record and doesn't count the 4 AAFC championship years).

He was fired when he left DC after one season. The skins were 8-8 that year.

I don't think you can dwell too much on the record. Let's face it, Wade has had strong talent during his realm in Dallas and they've won 1 playoff game. This years team was supposed to be the best he's had and a popular pick to represent the NFC. The simple fact that his coaching record in Dallas is as good as it is and he's had so little success in the postseason is a condemning factor, not a positive.

I'll miss the "standing in the Walmart parking lot wondering where I parked my car" look he exhibited on the sidelines.

Agreed- you can have a good overall record and still not meet expectations, which is what happened here. Not all on him, but it's been pretty clear for a while now that he's not the right man for the job.
