Late draft picks in a redraft. (1 Viewer)

Late in the draft and you've got your starters and byes covered. Still some picks to make. Do you go for the boom/bust guys (rookies usually)? Or do you draft safe and maybe take an older but more consistent vet?

Both. But lean more toward boom/bust players. Our league is a 10 team ADP redraft with 25 rounds. My last 10 picks last year:16. Jerious Norwood :( 17. Kavika Mitchell18. DeMeco Ryans  19. Byron Leftwich20. Nate Keading (my 1st kicker) 21. Ben Troupe22. Gerald Hayes (my #4 LB)23. Jay Feely24. Mo Jo Drew  25. Kenoy Kennedy

I think it depends in large part on how you fill out the top part of your depth chart. If you grab solid, steady reliable players as your RB2 and WR2/3 (guys like McGahee, James, Driver, Ward, etc), you'll probably have more wiggle room to swing for the fences with boom/bust types with your late round draft picks. And if they don't work out, then you can toss them to the waiver wire during the season for other backups while your solid starters continue to grind out solid weeks.

However, if you roll the dice with a risk/reward type as a starter (Benson and Jacobs come to mind, Colston, B Edwards, Peterson/Lynch etc), you may want to rein it in with a backup who, if your higher pick falters, can still provide solid, unspectular nuimbers to keep you in the hunt. If your starter bombs, and your home run late pick flames out too, then you're in big trouble.
