Laurence Maroney (1 Viewer)

Mike Mayock- during the rokie draft scaid scouts think he is closest to Shaun Alexander. They mentioned coming out of college he still has room to put on 10-15 pounds of muscle without losing a step, which would put him right around SA's specs. I do think he is slightly faster than SA though and could potentially have more sucess in the NFL.

I hold Marion Barber in high respects and believe he is a better all around Rb than Julius Jones. If Maroney pushed into Barbers carries as a sophmore I think that speaks very well of Maroney. Regarding other comparisons,

Cory Dillon - I dont think Corey has ever had the skills to make people miss like Maroney can do. Maroney also has a burst Corey has never had.

SJAX - SJAX is taller and bigger than moroney, I think thye arte often confused becsue both of them are very athletic for thier height and weight. But SJAX is more of a bruiser build who wants to be a slasher, while maroney fits the perfect mold to be a combination of speed and power.

Edge - Edge is suprisingly not that fast, hes more of a great cutter and has a inate ability to make the first tackler miss. Great hands as well. One of the best all around backs you can find.

LT - Very close but when Maroney is full size he will be larger in size than L.T and I'm not sure if he will ever be as multi diminsional as L.T I dont think anyone deserves to be mentioned in the same breath let alone a rookie.

Nice Avatar.

there is a story circulating that on Draft Day Napolian went ballistic when BB selected Maroney as that was the RB they really wanted.
Maybe they should have taken him instead of Jay Cutler with the 11th pick, then.
I'm not sure what Denver's draft pick has to do with the Colts picking Addai.
Ahh... my bad, sorry about that. I had heard Denver had coveted Maroney as well, so I was thinking Denver all the way.
LOL! And here I was thinking that you were making a funny by calling Shanny Napoleon! :lmao:

I'll throw one more out there...

Bo Jackson....power, speed....seems to have better moves though

He reminds me of a young Fred Taylor. Speed, size, moves, etc. I've heard others say that Maroney runs with power, but I've not seen that yet. Not saying he can't/won't, but I haven't really seen this side of him. He seems to have alot more negative plays than Dillon, but maybe that's just cause they try to get him outside more than they do with Dillon (for obvious reasons).

As always, just my opinion.

Agreed style-wise, but people forget how big Taylor is. Maroney's not quite his size.

Maroney is listed as 5-11, 220Taylor is listed as 6-1, 226I agree that Taylor is not thought of as being a big back - and I think that's because he plays smaller than he is (that's wasn't meant as a compliment, btw). I'm hopeful that Maroney can play up to his size, bu as yet have not seen any indication that he can/will. I've heard that scouts think he can add 10-15 pounds, but I as we all know it's know merely a numbers game - as they say in Boston, "ya gotta have haaaht". Not trying to dismiss Maroney a all, I love the way he runs and his burst is as good as anybody's outside of Tiki/Westbrook, just interested to see if he can develop into a complete back. But even if he doesn't I think he's gonna be really good.

I am a Minnesotan and i was glad that he was at the U of M. He was a great running back and everyone loved him in MN. I am glad that he is so good and that this year he will be the rookie of the year.

Marques Colston might have something to say about that.

Good one. My first thought was Larry Johnson. They both just seem to run angry. Whenever I see him I always think of the word angry. Reminds me of Groundhog Day the movie. "Don't drive angry". I can't stop thinking, "Don't run angry". But then I realize that's a good thing. Welcome to the curious workings of my mind.
