Laveranous Coles (1 Viewer)

This guy dropped to me late as a WR4/5 and he's putting up WR1 numbers:

Week 1- 153 yards

Week 2- 100 yards / 1 TD

I wrote off last week as a fluke because it was the titans d, but he performed again today. I haven't had a chance to see any Jets games - is he looking as good as his numbers? Do Coles owners out there see him as a must start at this point?

I'm no Coles owner, but YES he is a MUST start. His YAC ability is friggin' fantastic, Pennington looks for him in MANY situations.

Those arent even WR1 numbers - those are entire WR corps numbers.

With Pennington playing the way he is, Coles is a low end WR1/high end WR2.The Jets have to throw the ball a LOT, and with BOTH Cotchery and Coles playing well, that spreads out the defense. It's a perfect situation for Coles.Remember Santana Moss and Joey Galloway from last year? I can see Coles having the same type of strangely good year.

He will definitely come down to Earth and IMO a definitely "sell high" if you have WR depth.....but for those of us with a questionable WR situation, he's a pleasant surprise.

:goodposting: The way he burned my Patriots D on that 41 yard run made me sad :(He'll probably end up with something like 90/1200/12, he's great and Penny loves him.

I think 90/1200/9 is a reasonable upside from him.I think 12 is a bit much.

I suppose I can agree with that, since the Jets have been in the RZ so few times, its hard to tell who Penny is going to target down there. Coles has great hands and SHOULD be the target, but Cotchery could be that as well.

Based on the single WR sets, I have to believe that Cotchery is the guy who is going to be in there for red zone plays. While in the red zone last week and the single sets today, it was only Cotchery who was in there. That and the fact that Cotchery is a bit larger make him a better target for Pennington.I think Cotchery is in there mainly because he's a great run blocker.

12 TDs is too many to project, but I also do not think that 6 is his ceiling. After watching him today, he finally looks 100 percent recovered from that toe injury or he just learned how to play with it much better. His moves after the catch, and his start and stop ability was simply incredible today. His hands were great too, but that's not new.

I started him over Randy Moss this week. Given the way both players performed, I'm definitely going to continue starting him over Randy for the forseeable future. Yeah, I'd call him a must-start at this point in time.

if i were a betting man (and i am) ill say cotchery ends up being the RZ target and ends the year with more fantasy points

I completely dropped the ball on this guy. Damn. I think he is definitely a prime candidate to be the League's breakout WR this year (Like Moss in 05, Muhammed in 04). Coles was playing injured for the last two years and ddnt had anyone thrwing him the ball. Now he and Pennington are both healthy. Oh well, no point in buying now....

Are Coles' toe issues a thing of the past? I was under the impression that it was going to be a chronic problem the he would just have to learn to play with.

I had Coles on several teams and was able to snag Cotchery after wk 1. Now I just have to move one or the other to folks with weak WR corps.

:goodposting: I didn't see him the first week, but he was huge against the Pats.

For me too. In that league I activated Chad Jackson because my only other decent WR is Wayne.

Burleson, Mark and Michael Clayton are not doing squat.

Haw, this thread is half Coles owners and half Coles haters. Thats always a sure sign that a guy is awesome. Jealous much?

his TD run yesterday was amazing .... started him over S. Moss in a PPR league...

he is going to put up good numbers this year with Chad healthy..and is a very good option to start each week it appears.

i am not a hater, im stating my opinion. coles is a GREAT reciver, great hands and good speed, i just think cotchery will be the RZ target while Coles will get more yards.

he IS `Turf-Toe Coles`, remember?..he'll get hurt again, soon..Cotchery is the real value pick in that Jets offense..
