Let's talk LONG range prospecting (1 Viewer)

Dodgers OF Alex Verdugo is a guy I think will be moving up the prospect lists in midseason/next season. Just turned 20 and has a .800 OPS at AA. Mathematical projecting systems like KATOH love him because of his production releative to his age.

Red Sox 1B Josh Ockimey is doing 315/456/568 at A ball. Credits a new set of contact lenses for his improved plate discipline. He offers nothing with the glove which will hurt him as a real-life prospect but the fantasy upside is intriguing.

Robles and Espinosa are my favorites.  My other favorite is Shohei Otani, who at 21 is the best pitcher in the Japanese league.  He also plays OF and has a lot of power.  He expressed a desire to play stateside as a HS senior but no MLB team would let him play both ways so he stayed home.  He will play in the US eventually and is the best prospect in the world outside of the MLB system. You may need to stash him for several years.

Edit: or what EZ Glider said.

341/430/576 with a 0.92 BB/K playing C in AAA will do that.  May chip in a few cheap steals too.
Yeah I didn't realize he was having such a year.  Dude was a FA last offseason in my league and we let a new owner pick up whatever he wanted back in January.  Contreras was one of the players he took.   Damn.

I will also add, it's a really unique setup where the guys who get taken in the minor league portion in June can be kept for longer than guys taken during the "regular" draft. Way too much to go into on a message board since our league rules are 7 pages long with like 40 footnotes, but just know that it pays to go after really really high ceiling type guys. Almost everyone tries to hit a home run with every pick in the amateur draft.

Phillies with the first semi-surprising pick with Georgia HS Cornelius Randolph. If it was another organization, I'd support picking a high potential guy at #11 but it's the Phillies so I'm just SMH.

ETA: the first draft pick who is still available in the Serious Biz league.
Number 88 on Baseball America's winter list, but has been on DL since 4/26 with a shoulder strain.

You wanna talk LOOOOOOOOOOOONG range?  I just traded Eduardo Nunez for 16-year-old Kevin Maitan.  lol

One guy that has been mashing under the radar is Raimel Tapia for Hartford.  Both he and the higher rated David Dahl are tearing up the Eastern League which isn't the most hitter-friendly league.  Both are a CARGO trade away from having fantasy relevance.

Maitan was mentioned a few times in this thread. He is the centerpiece of my 2025 offense
