Liberal Media Bias (3 Viewers)

jon mx always accuses me of watching MSNBC, but the truth is I haven't watched them in years. Not since they allowed that disgusting Al Sharpton on all the time. And I don't watch Fox- their product is entertaining, but it's bash Obama 24/7. Gets a little boring to me. Talk radio even worse. It used to be "here is what happened." Now, it's "here is what happened, and this is why Obama is to blame."

I don't watch news anymore, or listen to talk radio, unless there is some latest catastrophe. I get my political information from mainstream websites (CNN.Com, Politico.Com, Real Clear Politics, etc.), where I can read about issues at some length and detail not available on television.

The answer here is very simple: secession

How about Varmint, Jim, Peens and all the rest of you "patriots" go chat it up over at TinFoilHatGuys.com? Also, you might have to purchase that domain first.

Problem solved!
Yeah buddy...."shut up and go away....problem solved"....

How about we just keep "chatting it up" until we are using $10 to wipe our asses?

Or, we'll stop when you can no longer buy a 32oz soda in NYC....oh wait....that's already happened....hasn't it?

Bundy Ranch will be happy to take them.

It's more subtle. I usually see it when I already know the story and then I see how they present it. It isn't like Fox News or msnbc where the bias is blatant and usually listed in the topic title on the screen.

However, NBC news (the network division) had their msnbc hosts doing a lot of the coverage. It's interesting to see them talk like a hack on one channel, and then try to act impartial on another.

I'd imagine most people left of center would have an issue with someone like Greg Gutfeld being the White House correspondent for one of the networks.

you mentioned democracy now, what are your thoughts that news cast?

If you think cnn is biased too far to the left, then how is simply tuning into an outlet that is biased to the opposite side an effective counter? You're still getting filtered and biased news. Obviously it is simply because they agree with you. But I don't get why people who believe they are objectively trying to understand what is going on in the world will gleefully sign up to pay attention to those outlets that are so clearly obscuring the full truth.
They're not. They want their views confirmed, that's all.
More like their paranoia validated.

But you got sick and tired of all the Bush-Bashing 24/7 on MSNBC too, right? It wasn't just because of Al Sharpton, was it?

Kind of like watching porn after you finish.

well it's obviously very progressive in thought. And I disagree with them a lot of the time (especially about Israel). But I generally enjoy them for two reasons: first because they cover topics you won't hear about anywhere else, and that means I'll always learn something new, and second because I get the sense they're honest in what they believe. That being said there is a certain amount of humorless pessimism, a sturm und drang running through the show so I don't listen that often.

The gripes with Bush weren't of the Reverend Wright/birth certificate/golfgate nature. They were of the blood of thousands of US servicemen and tens/hundreds of thousands of others' on his hands nature. Small distinction, obviously.

I don't know why there is so much debate about this as it seems so obvious. There is generally a slight liberal bias to most of the news on ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS (mainly thinking about PBS NewHour) and CNN. There is a strong liberal bias on MSNBC. There is a strong conservative bias on Fox News and most of those conservative talk radio shows.

No it's true. I remember after the election of. 2006 Bush was very humble and gracious, and I recall thinking, you know even though I disagree with guy a lot he's a really fine gentleman, much like his father, a class act. And MSNBC continued to savage him and it pissed me off. Then Bush wax pushing McCain/Kennedy on immigration reform, and they wouldn't give him any credit. Nor did they credit him for his fine work on AIDs in Africa, or for TARP. There's a lot I liked about Bush. But for me the worst MSNBC ever did, outside of Al Sharpton, was in. 2008 when they attempted to demean John McCain's war record. You guys may recall that prior to Palin I was a huge fan of McCain and started the thread here promoting his candidacy. He remains a true American hero. What MSNBC did was shameful.

Is this where we complain about the Consverative media bias that is on talk radio as well? I know not everyone is "fair and balanced" like Fox News. But can we get fair coverage when we are driving home?

I thought so.....

I think if you want a more balanced straight news you have to go to Canadian TV. They seem to report on US events with less spin.

WHEN WILL WHITE CONSERVATIVES GET A FAIR SHAKE IN AMERICA?
They did back in the days of the crusades im told, Now we need to keep silent and not rock the oppressive boat.....
It be tough to be part of such an oppressed minority. How do you handle it?
With a sense of humor......
See, that's why peens doesn't bother me, because he treats everything with a sense of humor. It's the humorless guys around here, the ones who argue extremist political views but are seemingly unable to laugh at anything, they're the ones who are the most annoying. I'm not going to name any names, but they know who they are...

what about CNN GPS with Fareed Zakaria?
Love him. Don't think there is a single guy on TV that I tend to agree with more on a variety of issues. And even on the ones I don't, he always presents a thoughtful approach. Probably the best political commentator on television.

The key is are you honest about what you are...a Rush Limbaugh or a Sean Hannity make no bones that they are conservative...a Rachel Maddow or Bob Beckel proudly wear the liberal label...there never should be a complaint (unless they are lying) as long as the radio/TV host or writer comes clean that they actively support a certain ideology...if you don't like what they are saying than don't listen...the issue is those who work in the media in a non-opinion role and allow their bias to shine thru and have it effect their reporting or worse, leads them to bury stories or make stories more important than they are so it will hurt someone they disagree with...unfortunately for the ideologues they will never be able to see this going on and it's a major reason there is such mistrust in our media today...

No, I don't believe either Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity is honest. (Or Beckel either for that matter.) Maddow strikes me as more honest. Dennis Prager is honest. Michael Medved is honest. Whiny Mark Levin may be honest. But not Limbaugh or Hannity or Olbermann or Sharpton. The four of them are willing at any time to report falsehoods as truth in order to push their political agenda.

Believe me, I do. In the last year or so, that's ALL I put on. Or audio books.

the people on the right call is the Liberal media, the people on the left call is the corporate media.

I was at the bar 2 months ago and started talking to this conservative, he said that fox news is to liberal for his household,he is part of the Savage Nation. and that is where I will find the truth.
You can meet all kinds of whackos at the bar. I met a guy that told me as a teacher, it was my duty to only teach the truth and that the Bible and the Constitution were the only real truths. I explained that algebra didn't really have anything to do with the Bible and the Constitution. "Then stop teaching it and start spreading the truth to the kids instead." I tried to explain that I had to teach algebra in algebra class. He told me I was selling my soul and throwing my country away by doing so. When he found out that I had black kids in my math class, he asked, in all seriousness, "are they able to do math?"
Always a good idea to talk politics and religion at a bar.
I look at it like free entertainment.

This is not a subject I feel really strongly about. I enjoy reading the NY Times and WSJ alike.

But this report from Pew is pretty interesting IMO:

Political Polarization & Media Habits
Ideological Placement of Each Source’s Audience
- According to the scale shown there by Pew The New York Times is further to the left than Fox is to the right. Personally I find that pretty surprising. Also the WSJ ends up on the left side of the median 0 side of the scale, also somewhat surprising to me.

That scale doesn't show bias at all:

Ideological differences in media source preferences result in distinct audience profiles for many media outlets. Many sources, such as the Wall Street Journal, USA TODAY, ABC News, CBS News and NBC News have audiences that are, on average, ideologically similar to the average web respondent.

Reflecting liberals’ use of a greater number of media sources, there are more outlets whose readers, watchers and listeners fall to the left of the average web respondent than to the right. At the same time, a handful of outlets have audiences that are more conservative than the average respondent.

Fox News sits to the right of the midpoint, but is not nearly as far right as several other sources, such as the radio shows of Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck. A closer look at the audience breakdowns reveals why: While consistent conservatives get news from Fox News at very high rates, many of those with less conservative views also use Fox News. By contrast, the audiences for Limbaugh and Beck are overwhelmingly conservative.

By comparison, the average consumer of the Wall Street Journal sits very close to the typical survey respondent, but the range of Journal readers is far broader because it appeals to people on both the left and the right. As a result, while respondents overall cluster toward the center of the ideological spectrum, the Journal’s audience is relatively evenly distributed across the continuum: 20% are consistent liberals, 21% mostly liberal, 24% mixed, 22% mostly conservative and 13% consistent conservative.
