Limpy Learns A Thing Or Two About Biden's New Job (1 Viewer)

We'll track his progress here. With his extensive background in the field of medicine, I'm sure he's the right man for the job and up to the challenge.

If he can accomplish that, the $2500 a year we were supposed to be saving might become reality. Bravo for getting it right with a real solution.

I'm not sure this will necessarily help anything on the research front but can see a scenario where pooling resources/information and having one person help push everyone along could help. I'm optimistic.

And I'm not mocking his efforts. I'm mocking the president for not only who he appointed, but the timing of it.

Mocking this/his efforts. Obviously he won't find a cure, but he's using his resources to help those who may. Bravo to him.
if only this county already had someone in place to address matters of public health.
In the cure to cancer, I'm all for all hands on. I guess you need to possibly be stage IV to understand this..
I guess you'd be wrong

If this helps cut red tape, increases funding and coordinates research efforts, it could be a major step forward.

Isn't there some recently elected/reelected Senator, that has 5 years left in his term, that could take on this figurehead position? Why give it to the guy on the way out the door?

A quick look through current Senators has me looking in the direction of John Barrasso ® Wyoming.

MD from Georgetown. In office until 2019.

From wiki: physician in private practice, orthopedic surgeon, chief of staff of a medical center, president/physician for several nonprofits

And since it's likely a no win position, why not throw it on the other side of the aisle?

Eh, Biden has a lot more prominence than some obscure senator. That's worth something. Don't know what but it's a non zero value. And when he leaves office someone else can always pick up the torch.

As we all should be. I have no problem with putting someone in charge of this. I do find the timing odd, as in 'why wasn't this done ages ago? Like during the Ford administration ages ago.'

And I find the appointee even odder considering where he is in his term. If he keeps up the efforts into his post Veep years, the more to him. But I'm guessing he'll find plenty of deaf ears come Jan 2017.

Weird thread.
Very weird. As part of the budget agreement, the Obama Administration got extra monies for cancer research. It's to be spent this year. Obama has appointed Biden, who lost his son to cancer, to oversee the allocation of monies. I'm lost as to why anybody would choose to mock any aspect of this.

Honestly ill informed on that aspect of it. Reading your post sparked the memory that he had a child that passed, but was unaware of the circumstances.

Thanks for the info

Fwiw they mentioned the fact his son died of brain cancer in the link you posted a few spots up.

Actually, looking at his bio, I knew of the first child dying in an auto accident. That's the one I was aware of. I completely missed the news cycle on the more recent passing of his son.

No problem.

I am sure Biden will make great progress with curing cancer in the next 11 months with his extensive medical background. Seems like plenty of time.

This is a very strange appointment by Obama. It may be needed but the timing and person appointed make no sense. Can anyone listen to Biden in a serious manner? When I listen to him, I am doing so with the sole intent of waiting for him to say something stupid.

Biden will not being doing the medical research, FYI. And on the subject of cancer research, I think a whole lot of people will take him seriously.

Thank you for the clarification. I thought Biden would be donning a lab coat and goggles this morning as he started his research in some university lab.

That makes sens since you commented on his extensive medical background. Happy to help. ;)

I think the OP also doesn't realize that early on in the administration that Joe was in charge of overseeing the distribution of stimulus funds and was widely seen as having down a good job in managing that endeavor.

Thanks for the shadow for me to hide in!

That's the government for you -- wasting taxpayer money on frivolous stuff like cancer research. What good could possibly come of that?

My understanding is Hillary is proposing Biden for Secretary of Health. Possibly a step up from his current position.

This guy should have run against that beast of a woman. He would have won.
