Happened to me this week too. Same exact scenario. I told them commish to just put in Lamar for him. Dude was working overnights, 6 days a week, 12 hour days (he works construction) and the days just got jumbled up on him. It happens.

As a few others have already said, the best answer by far is to have rules in place before this scenario happens. The great equalizer to each owners “gung-ho” ness is a set of black and white rules. No matter how hard we try to have a league where all owners care the same exact amount about FF, it never happens. Some will always be cutthroat while others consider it just a fun hobby not to be taken seriously.

The only angle I would care about as commish is league balance. What’s “fair” to the field. But my context is a league with 3 divisions and a wild card.

Not every league will be that format, but if team LJax losing because of a technical glitch hurts one of the other teams in the league in the standings, that’s where I’d have an issue.

But I wouldn’t do anything unilaterally. I’d poll the league. It’s an interesting scenario.

We actually do have a bylaw that says “technology is sometimes imperfect. Issues caused by technical glitches will be evaluated as needed.”

This would fall into that category for me.

Was only trying to point out that this scenario happens to almost every league at least once every year. To act like each occurrence is a brand new incident with minor differences is insane.

Yes, I am on the cutthroat side of the line, and Team B needs to keep Huntley.

But is this really a scenario-specific incident? This exact scenario happens 10000000000000 times a year in FF leagues. Nowhere does it say the Team B owner was in a car accident, jailed, or lost in the woods. The dude thought he made a change and he didn’t. Really, how hard is it to verify your changes took effect? Every site I know of, changes are instantaneous and can be viewed 1 second later. If I am Team A and I lose because either Lamar or some other QB gets inserted, I am throwing a hissyfit!

I realize Gally laid out all the specifics, and it’s a very detailed scenario. I guess I should’ve said this happens every single week in a league somewhere, and there’s no need to reinvent the wheel every week. Make a rule and be done with it.

Fines for doing what?

My home league does this. For playing a backup, injured player or player on bye, really anything that is clearly tanking, whether intentional or not

How is it clearly tanking if you unintentionally play a backup?

I like to think that I’m a pretty good dude overall. And fair. And I care. And I have empathy for others.

But you can’t change it. The dude needs to run his team. It’s on him. Once you start making these kinds of changes, there’s no end to the stuff you’ll have to deal with.

I mean there is a rule....set your lineup. You get fined if you play guys on bye or guys ruled out 48 hrs before the game. This didn't happen here.

That being said, this was an honest mistake that was brought to my attention by a 3rd party. The guy with the mistake did not come to me begging for a change. I only looked into it because it was such an obvious oddity to see what happened. Once I talked with the offending party the situation was clear and the path forward easy.

I would have much more concern if it was a 1-7 team vs a 7-1 team and likely swap out to Darnold for competition reasons. I know this is not consistent but circumstances are also different. The league balance is much more affected if a bottom level team puts out an uncompetitive lineup than a top level team. In this case the team that losses helps others at the top of the standings. One of the teams was gonna lose anyway. Almost negligible in the grand scheme of things as to which one loses.

Boy. Tough one. Obviously an honest mistake. Put my vote down as owners need to be accountable for who they are starting. I'd make no change.

Absolutely amazed at some of the answers here. And it's not a tough one. Easy one.

Real simple. Every Owner is RESPONSIBLE for their own team and everything that goes along with it.

The Commissioner is not a babysitter. And is not allowed to alter mistakes by others.

This happens time to time and if you are upset by this .......well this is why you make sure you have competent owners in your league.

As a matter of fact, when this happens in our League other owners can't wait to pounce on the guy and give him a rash of sh!t.

And no one would EVER ask for the Commish to change it.

Let the League run itself unless there is cheating or rule violations.

Don't run other people's teams.

Changing their lineup for them is like rewarding them for doing a bad job.
