Lions and their Weed (3 Viewers)

Two other Lions have been cited for a total of three drug-related offenses this off-season.

In January, offensive tackle Johnny Culbreath was arrested for simple possession of marijuana after he was spotted on a hotel surveillance camera putting two blunts in the drawer of a hallway dresser.

And running back Mikel Leshoure pleaded guilty March 1 to a charge of use of marijuana after he was stopped for speeding by Benton Township police. Leshoure was cited for possession of marijuana 11 days later, when the rented 2012 Mitsubishi SUV he was a passenger in was pulled over by Baroda-Lake Township police.

looks like they need to step up the drug testing for the lions

Any guesses on how long a suspension might be for him? On the one hand Fred Davis got 4 games last year (2nd drug related offense I believe), while on the other Kenny Britt wasn't suspended at all last year (2 arrests in short period of time).

Any guesses?

Were Britt's convictions drug related? I don't believe they were, but I may be wrong. Go with Fred Davis. My question is, will these be considered two incidents, or only one since they are so close together. If the latter, then maybe LeShoure isn't as dumb as I thought... Then again, why the hell is this guy out someplace sparking one up where the cops can find him? If he lights up at home, nobody knows the difference...

These are definitely TWO separate incidents. Also, and I know it's not fair to LeShoure...but Fairley being busted on it too might make it easier for Goodell to "bring down the hammer" on the Lions to make an example.

Convictions, no....but we all know the truth and so did Goodell. He's stated many times that his sanctions don't have to follow what the law says or does.

This is unfortunate for the Lions. As someone already mentioned they have burned high picks on this position for the last two years with little return. For a team with several other needs it is a burden that they will have to address this need again. The good thing is the RB pool although may not be top heavy seems pretty deep this year. I could see them using a 4th rounder on a back that could contribute this season. GO LIONS!
Mayhew drafts RBs like Millen drafted WRs..hopefully eventually he will get one right. Best was a big question mark from the start. Been better off drafting DBs and going for a mid range FA RB like Mike Bush and be done with it.

Dear Detroit Lions,

As you may not be aware, you all reside in the state of Michigan. Also, as you may not be aware, you all make more money per year than I do. In addition, as you may not be aware, you play in a violent sport where major injuries are commonplace and everyday pain is a certainty. Lastly, as you are certainly not aware, you could all get a license for medicinal marijuana and save yourself a lot of trouble with the cops. You'd still have to deal with Goodell but at least you won't have to choke down your reefer in the car!! If I can do it, so can you! ;)

He tampered with the evidence.

He ate everything in the ashtray?

What are the odds they draft an RB in say the 3rd or 4th round now? Pretty good RB class; there will be talent available.
They will
Mayhew has said that if a good back drops far enough in the draft they would consider it.
Was this before or after he was made aware of this situation with LeShoure? Plans may need to be changed.....
I saw this before the second Leshoure issue

Found the original piece on this. It was Mar30 and Mikel was arrested Mar12. I have to believe Mayhew knew immediately. So Mayhew said it after the second time

SO SICK of the drug laws. Why punish someone when no one is getting hurt?
Try reading the Mexican news or about neglected children of addicts for starters.
Ignorant post Pictus Cat. Marijuana is non-addictive and has been proven to be medicinal. The real problem here is that LeShoure was busted twice in such a close time frame that he does not "get it" when it comes to responsible use.
That's not entirely true. While it doesn't have "withdrawal symptoms" of other drugs such as heroine or alcohol, weed has been shown to be addictive. So in the case of LeShoure - either it is addictive and he has an "excuse", or it's not addictive and he's just plain dumb.
It is entirely true. Just because you check Facebook 70 times a day, it does not mean you are addicted.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Keep dreaming, stoner.

According to this article, this is actually his third marijuana related incident and he could face a 6-8 game suspension.
(Rotoworld) Lions RB Mikel Leshoure tested positive for marijuana as a sophomore at Illinois. Analysis: Pro Football Weekly, which uncovers many hidden infractions, had nothing about Leshoure's one-game 2009 suspension in last year's scouting reports. That incident had slipped under the radar until Leshoure's two marijuana-related arrests in the past two months. The NFL can and will factor in Leshoure's entire history when dishing out punishment. He could face a suspension in the range of 6-8 games.

The NFL can't suspend players based on what they did before they were in the league.

No kidding. Where is Rotoworld coming up with this stuff?

Fantasy wise, this drops LeShoure to very late rounds in redraft. He is still working on that Achilles and there is a possibility that he was not going to be 100 percent in 2012. I think that a huge door has been opened for Kevin Smith.

I said that in the Kevin Smith thread, and people thought I had 3 heads or something.

it's too early to tell - let's see what the Lions do in the draft.

I don't think we have to. They aren't dropping s 1st rounder on a RB as they have other pressing needs which means that KS will get a big opportunity to compete for the starting role. Opportunity is a huge factor in FFB and the NFL. Sure, he has to do something with that opportunity, but it's still big.

Probably not a 1st rounder but they did have an interview with Doug Martin and Schwartz went to Oregon to watch L. James workout. I wouldnt be surprised if they drafted a RB somewhere in the first three rounds.

I don't think they should be able to suspend for pre-NFL conduct either, but isn't that why Terrell Pryor was suspended last season?

Commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement Friday affirming the suspension as a result of Pryor's "deliberate manipulation of our eligibility rules."

Pryor, drafted by the Raiders in the third round of the NFL's supplemental draft, was a junior at Ohio State when his dealings with a Columbus, Oh., tattoo shop owner were found improper by the NCAA, resulting in a five-game suspension and the eventual resignation of coach Jim Tressel.

Rather than return to school, Pryor declared himself eligible for the NFL, and faced lengthy negotiations for admission into the supplemental draft, typically reserved for players deemed academically ineligible after April's draft.

After getting burned with a 1st and a 2nd round RB the last two drafts, do you really see them doing the same thing again this draft? The smart move may be to sign a veteran FA now who will give you at least one more year to see what you really have in Best (health wise) and LeShoure (mental wise). They have Kevin Smith also, but he's never been the picture of physical health, though he's always been fine mentally.
Maybe 3rd times a charm. It worked at WR with getting Calvin after Charles Rogers and BMW.........

You forgot ROY williams. although I wouldnt label him bust of Charles Rodgers like proportions, he certainly didnt live up to his draft position

And now Nick Fairly. Nice job drafting last year, Kitties...

Nick Fairley arrested for marijuana possessionPosted by Mike Florio on April 3, 2012, 4:51 PM EDTGetty ImagesIt’s been a bad week for the Lions.A day after 2011 second-round draft pick Mikel Leshoure made the wrong kind of headlines for, among other things, allegedly treating “wacky tobacky” like chewing tobacco, 2011 first-round pick Nick Fairley has been arrested for marijuana possession.According to the Mobile Press-Register, Fairley has been charged with second-degree possession, a misdemeanor.Police had received complaints about a car speeding through the Morningside Manor neighborhood. As it turned out, Fairley was driving the vehicle. Marijuana was then found in Fairley’s possession.A Mobile native, Fairley played college football at Auburn before sliding to the middle of round one last April. A preseason foot injury limited him to 10 regular-season appearances, with no starts, in 2011.
:lmao: ...and another Lions season goes up in smoke. The Lions & Bengals - just a bunch of stupid cats. Dopes.
I don't get how this changes anything from their 10-6 roster last year. As of now we have 21 of 22 starters returning. Up in Smoke? Not hardly.I guess those 11 tackles and one sack Fairley got could be a season changers. No doubt the Lions need more running back depth. I trust Mayhew and Schwartz will have the team ready to go even though two guys... one who has never played a down and another that barely played, got busted for MJ.

I can't find the link, but LeShoure gets a free pass from the NFL because his marijuana use was only for medicinal purposes to ease the pain of his torn Achilles tendon.

I wouldnt be surprised if they drafted a RB somewhere in the first three rounds.
3rd round sounds about right, I'd guess defense the first 2 rounds with a CB in the 1st.
There are a ton of guys the Lions can get late in the draft - Hillman, Turbin, Gray to name a few. I think Hillman makes a better fit since he's similar to Best, who I think won't be around long, and he's a 4th round pick at the earliest.

been preachign this myself
A guy with Smith's history should stay away from huge doors.
