** Lions at Packers** (-2.5, 47.5) CBS 4:25 (1 Viewer)

Losing Ben Johnson looks to have taken a toll
That had nothing to do with the Lions not blocking, not tackling, not getting any pressure, and not covering anyone. The Lions moved the ball but had 6 points in 3 trips to the red zone. Also, give credit to the Packers. They played great..

It has a lot to do with Goff looking fairly terrible...the guy needs someone to scheme people open for him
No play calling works when you don't have time to throw.

He's got lead feet and the scheme helps him tremendously...even last year with a top oline

Amon-Ra St Brown

6th target of the game for ARSB at 2:36 left, first catch of the half (2 targets)
  • 2021 - 9 g with 7 or more targets (double digits his last 6 g), another 1 with 6
  • 2022 - 1 g with 1 target (the booth spotter said he was concussed but he wasn’t), 4 targets in a 41-10 route, 6 targets in 0-29 loss, missed 1 g. 8 or more targets in all 13 of the other g he played
  • 2023 - 1 g with 6 targets, 2 with 7, missed 1 g. 8 or more targets in all 13 of the other g he played
  • 2024 - 2 targets in 52-14 blowout, 4 targets in a 47-9 blowout, three 6 target g (& 2 with 18 targets lol), 7 or more in 12 g
4 years, 47 g with 7 or more targets

in his last 55 g, 44 g with 7 or more targets (5 of the 11 were blowouts)

80% 7 or more

that cannot happen again, John Morton

I think the Packers are being vastly overrated after the Parsons trade, in my opinion that trade takes them from a below average defense to an above average defense. They still aren't great. Frankly, I'd argue the Lions pass rush is getting a bigger boost from the guy they are getting back than the one GB traded for. Shocked Green Bay is favored.

I think a healthy Lions team, especially on defense, reestablishes dominance. I also think GB's secondary other than McKinney, is as bad as any in the NFC, I think the Lions dink and dunk their way to success, with a big game from ARSB, but Gibbs and LaPorta getting theirs as well.

Lions win.
Like the man in the orthopedic shoes, I stand corrected. Great win for GB, and I don't know if its an overreaction to be a little concerned about the Lions offense post-Ben Johnson. As a Bears fan, I hope that's the takeaway.

It has been awhile since I have seen both lines of scrimmage get manhandled like that for the Lions. Almost zero pass rush with what should be a full healthy unit. That is what stood out for me in this game.

It was a glaring deficiency. Love was very comfortable today.

Just a small point of info, the Lions 3 DL snap leaders in 2024 are out. Josh Pascal (39 snaps /g) is on NFI, will return in October. Their best DI, 3-tech Alim McNeil (45 /g), returns in early November. Unfortunately Levi Onwuzurike (40 /g) was hurt between OTAs & TC, out for the year.

Not an excuse, none of that snuck up on them. 3 of their 4 starters in September 2024 were out there today, and the 4th starter is 1st round pick Tyleik Williams. They were solid vs the run but non-existent in pass rushing. Even when they sent extra guys that only flushed Jordan once today.

That has to change.

I’m less concerned about the OL. Both young Gs are going to be good NFL starters. Graham Glasgow (33 y.o. C) was the weak link at LG last year and did not look good today. But they’ll jell and get better as the year goes along.

The play calling - on both sides - was passive compared to prior years. Lions football is aggressive and relentless. We were none of those things today.

Kudos to Green Bay, they’re a good team. Looking forward to the rematch on Turkey Day.

That’s a weakness in our recent drafts that I think Lions fans are right to have been harping on. Since we took Hutch, we haven’t made much effort to bring any other pass rushers in the draft. DBs, LBs and run stopping DTs have been the direction they’ve gone repeatedly. They have gotten really good players and it’s helped the team a lot but the lack of another pass rusher is a glaring concern now. The Campbell pick right before Calijah Kancey went was the real killer for me. He’s exactly the type of player the Lions need right now.

Lions are likely to be just fine. They weren't out there just making mistakes against some cupcake. Packers put together one hell of a team. They're legit and as advertised. Better days ahead for the lions. They just ran into a team that's come into their own and showed why they jumped into the super bowl conversation. They also happen to be the youngest team in the league, which is scary. Knocking on the door getting a little bit louder....

Absolutely. I think the scary part for the Lions might be:
- lack of pass rush….Love seemed quite comfortable in the pocket
- poor secondary play……Pack receivers got open consistently at the intermediate level
- offensive play calling….it was week 1, but their play calling was so conservative, the opposite of what we think of as the Dan Campbell risk-taker swashbuckling style

Anyway, it’s week 1. Trying not to overreact to anything this early in the season.

Great game for the Packers. Parsons is a huge addition but I don't think the Packers LBs are getting enough love. Quay and especially Cooper where all over the place yesterday. The speed they have on defense is exciting as a fan and can't wait to see how they do against a mobile QB on Thursday. Early returns this team looks legit but it's a long season.

Cooper is a stud in the making. If the league didn't know who he was coming into the season they're going to.

Lack of creativity on offense was noticeable. Changing coordinators takes time, I think the offense figures it out.

Biggest thing to me though, was the lack of pressure the Detroit D Line got. That doesn't look like it's going to get fixed this year.

My last visions of the Lions were in week 18 they gave Darnold about 1.5 seconds to throw the ball. It was one of the most suffocating defenses I have seen in a long time.
