I really don't see what difference it makes this year. It's not like last year where everyone (except the Texans) were coveting a single player. :D

I'm not all all disappointed. Now, instead of making the "glam" pick Millen likes to make he'll be forced to address a need and pick Thomas or Gaines.

 1. A win over a playoff team lightens the losing season, just a little.2. I really don't care if we get Gaines, Thomas or Quinn. All will be great players. Not as good as CJ, but the WR gag is overdone. (although still a need :bye: )

Agreed. At first, I was like, "WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU MORONS DOING!?" But the more I look at it, the more I could care less if we had the #1 overall or not. Actually, if you think about it, it's not so bad. The #2 pick will get a little less $$ than #1 more than likely, so it can save them a tad bit o' money. If it came down to possibly getting a "can't miss" prospect, like a Reggie Bush or something, then I'd be upset. But this year, there doesn't seem to be a prospect that is head-and-shoulders above everyone. There's several I wouldn't mind them drafting...

Not a Lion fan, but if I were:

I'd be pissed if the head coach intentionally tried to lose the game.

You don't hire a coach to lose, you hire him to win.

Less $$ for the #2 pick is a bonus.

One rookie will not turn the franchise around. Coaching will.

I am a longtime Lions' fan. (Sigh). I desire a win every game.. and am proud that the team desired the same. :goodposting:

[Don't forget that many of these guys were playing for 'employment'. Professionals always try to win.]

Besides, Oakland already had the 1st pick locked up didn't they?
Nope, Detroit would have "won" the tiebreaker based on a worse strength of schedule than Oakland.I DON'T want Quinn, and I think this helps that a little. We saw in week 17 what Kitna can do if he's not pressured (granted, Dallas pretty much mailed it in). He is not the problem, the line is. Take Thomas at 2, a DE in the 2nd, and sign Ahman Green.

You can't actually believe that Kitna has much of a future for Detroit. He'll be 35 at the start of next season. Unless you think the Lions have a shot at winning the Superbowl in the next 2-3 years, Kitna is nothing more than a band-aid. Better to get Brady Quinn and have him ready to play in 2008 or 2009.

I thought OAK had the tie breaker, but I agree with you on Quinn. I'm not convinced he's going to make a great pro. Besides look at what happens when ever Detroit takes a top prospect at QB, ala A. Ware and J. Harrington. Especially with Millen back, we can't count on him to make the right decision. I still think O-line or Def end is the way to go. You could put a monkey in at QB if they could protect it.

I am glad they won.

The Lions have ben in many games only to lose right at the end.

Plus they would screw up the #1 pick anyway.

 Going on the road and beating the Cowboys, who needed to win for a home playoff game, with 8 or 9 starters on IR including the top 3 running backs, was SWEET!

Mike Williams: Does he come back in 2007 as a Lion?

He caught Kitna's final TD pass of the season, but I haven't heard a peep in the press about it, nor whether he's on the Comeback Trail or whether it was one last hurrah for a player about to be traded/cut/forgotten.

Maybe it's too soon to tell.

I like your thoughts, but I think KJ makes an unreal recovery and is back for start of season and is a force next year. I don't think they need Ahman, and I think Jones will shock us all and be a force next year! Not shock us that he is good, but shock us by rehabilitating hard and being healthy!

It's pretty sad, but to me there is no big picture anymore. There's no "Let's get the #1 pick and turn this thing around". Nothing's getting turned around. The Lions will continue to be awful. I'm just gonna enjoy the few wins we get whenever they come.

I was ecstatic that they won....the worst thing that could have happened was getting the #1 pick and being pressured to take a surefire bust like Quinn. He has Rick Mirer written all over him.

2nd pick is more tradeable imho, and if not, they will have the pick of a litter of some very talented players, and won't have to pay NEARLY as much for whoever it is. On top of the draft implications, we beat the hated Cowboys in Dallas!

I think Kitna has a future in Detroit, even if he is not the long term answer. He's fine for a couple of years while we just try to get back to .500 or so. You're right in that we need a future at QB beyond that, and he's not it. I really don't think it's Quinn, either. My statement was as much anti-Quinn as it was pro-Kitna.

What's the one pick the Lions could make at #2 that would make you nod and say "good choice"...?

For me, it begins and ends with Joe Thomas. Combines could change that, I suppose, but I doubt I'll be swayed by how well (or how poorly) Brady Quinn and JaMarcus Russell play tomorrow night.
