The North is going to be the best division in the NFC this year. GB is elite. Det is going to push for a playoff spot and so will Chi. Minn is going to have a long season. As a Detroit native who's lived in Detroit 40 years, for the Lions fans it doesn't matter what the little one liners people have for them.Detroit is for real and Green Bay has a fight on their hands for the division. The Lions at home will be unbelievably difficult to beat, they may drop 1.
Weak division? It's time. This is their year and the stars are aligned for them to make a big run. They have a weak division and few flaws in their game. Arguably the best QB in the NFC behind Michael Vick. Their defensive line will be more oppressive than a Communist regime. Their passing game was dominant with 2nd and 3rd string QBs. A lot of people will be jumping on the bandwagon around week 6, but remember who made this call early.
Instinctive your just fishing for anyway to come out of your bash fest of Stafford. It's not really clever to say the guy isn't as good as Brees or Rodgers yet..........Weird how all the clever comments stopped.![]()
Ok, let's jump to conclusions after one week. Premise I challenged in the above quote: Stafford is second best QB in NFC behind Vick. Let's look at all the week 1 statlines (which are an overreaction plus super small sample sizes anyway, but what the hell, when in Rome...)Brees: 32/49 - 419 yards - 3 TD - 0 IntRodgers: 27/35 - 312 yards - 3 TD - 0 IntStafford: 24/33 - 305 yards - 3 TD - 1 IntSo he's in the middle on completion percentage, he's dead last amongst the three in passing yards, he's tied with both at 3 TD passes, and he's got the most interceptions (not to mention the most interceptions returned for touchdowns)On what universe is anything he did today better than Brees and Rodgers?I LIKE STAFFORD. Brees YPA: 8.55Rodgers YPA: 8.91Stafford YPA: 9.24Im not ready to annoint Stafford into the elite club with Rodgers and Brees, but he has the talent to be right there with them. GB needed a last second GL stand to beat NO. I wouldn't say they manhandled them at all. Regardless, GB is an elite team. I agree the NFC North may very well be the toughest in football this year. I think the AFC East is very good as well. NE and NYJ are both very good. I also think Mia and Buf are much better than people realize right now.The North is the best division in football. Hold on now - I know this is justInstinctive, you're bias hate towards Stafford is epic. I love how you are holding a dropped pass that got picked and run back against him. You've been a hater for 3 years now. It's just as comical now as it was then.![]()
but.....Since when have I been a hater? I think this is the first time I've ever been in a Stafford thread, in fact. If you can link me to a post of mine that appears to contain bias against him, please do. Otherwise, let's try and look at the facts, draw conclusions from them, and limit the ad hominem, huh? Judge an argument on the basis of it's logic.I'm 99.999% you're mistaken that I have Stafford hate, especially 3 years worth. Kindly keep those accusation in your own head unless you have any evidence to back it up. It's hardly "bias[ed] hate" or "[being] a hater" to say that a guy is not as good as Brees and Rodgers...ETA: and just to add a little ethos to my side - you'd be more credible if you knew how to spell "your" correctly...
I never said anything about Freeman, I've been predicting a regression for the Bucs this year. Get back to me in a few weeks on the Brees vs. Stafford comparison. Stafford was playing the Bucs D (bad/young) and Brees was playing the superbowl defending GB D. Stafford had a good game today, but the Bucs D is going to make a lot of QBs look good this year.'goonsquad said:C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT NFL RATING'bucsbaby said:![]()

Their defense is good, so you must believe it. The only part of the Lions team that is unproven is their ability to stay healthy and a consistent running game. Their running game was good enough today, and no major issues to report so far. That's bad news for the Week 2 opponent.'Badgers Fan said:Packers Eagles Saints are all much better than the Lions. Of course, if Stafford leads his team to win the Superbowl this year and/or scores more fantasy points than Brees and Rodgers, I'll be happy to eat crow on this.I never said anything about Freeman, I've been predicting a regression for the Bucs this year. I would bet a boatload that they have a top 10 defense right now. Their D-Line is damn good and will only get better once Fairley gets involved. Their LB crew is vastly improved, Tulloch was the defenses MVP, IMO. Their secondary is much better than people think. They are razor thin in the back seven, but it is a top dominate defense right now.'Badgers Fan said:Packers Eagles Saints are all much better than the Lions. That pick is 100% on Matt Stafford. He let Will Heller into the huddle and then threw it to him. The correct move was 'who the hell are you and get out of my huddle.''jurb26 said:Instinctive, you're bias hate towards Stafford is epic. Rodgers: 27/35 - 312 yards - 3 TD - 0 Int
Stafford: 24/33 - 305 yards - 3 TD - 1 Int
So he's in the middle on completion percentage, he's dead last amongst the three in passing yards, he's tied with both at 3 TD passes, and he's got the most interceptions (not to mention the most interceptions returned for touchdowns)

Stafford did better than Ryan Bradford, and Freeman...and maybe Romo, but lets wait. What else you gonna do to fish? The thread was started before the game. This win on the road was not a surprise. The Lions will be an elite team this year. They may not be the best team in the NFC, but they will be top 3.Lions fans of this board. Your team is 1-0. I know beating the Buccaneers by 7 points is such an amazing feat and all, but come on.
I'll see your 26 and 12 and raise you 38 and 13. Now I can say I think the OP is over zealous, but still Stafford will be a top QB this year. I know hes been hurt, but hes not hurt now, people who hold injury in the ability of a player does not understand the game.
I say Stafford throws 26 TDs this year and 12 picks, thats a pretty good year.
Good grief. "its" should be "it's". Also, "didnt" is "didn't". Finally, you once again used "your" instead of "you're." Your source credibility (see what I did there?) takes a hit every time you post. Oh and far as my spelling, most of this is done on my blackberry, buttons are small. But no need for names, when its obvious you are the idiot. We are on a football forum not a spelling forum. Football knowledge matters here, not an added letter in a word cuz of small buttons, you got my point, if you didnt, your the dumb one.
I don't think that phrase means what he thinks it does...See the AFC South and Houston Texans if you want a team that "the stars are aligned for"However the NFC North may be the toughest division in the NFL in 2011. Both 2010 NFC Conference finalists abide there and one of them is the defending Super Bowl Champion. And as impressed as anyone may be by Detroit's win in TB, GB and Chicago just beat two of the most popular favorites to represent the NFC in this year's Super Bowl (NO and ATL). GB's offense looked virtually unstoppable in the process, and the Bears absolutely smoked the Falcons this afternoon, racking up surprisingly good offensive statistics while the defense didn't allow a single offensive TD to one of the NFL's most talent-laden offenses. Detroit may no longer be the dregs of the NFL, but the stars are going to need to do some serious re-aligning to clear a path for the Lions to rise to the top of the NFC North in 2011...'Oh Yes! said:Weak division? It's time. Wow the Lions/Stafford backers need to calm the heck down... I love the Lions this year, and I think that Stafford will be amazing (in fantasy and in the games), but to argue that he's better than Brees and Rodgers just makes you look crazy. Seriously, Stafford is better than two superbowl QBs because of the defense he practices against? WTF?And I really hope you guys get 12 wins, heck even more would be better, you deserve it, but let's wait and see for at least another game or two?I guess it's been long enough that when you have a day like today you go a little nuts. Maybe I would do the same if the Browns ever looked good.Lions play the Falcons and Saints this year. Once they get tearing through them, get back to me. Brees and Rodgers are okay, but they fold once they get some real pressure on them. Stafford has been practicing against what may be one of the best defenses in NFL history so he will be used to the pressure. Let's see how those other QBs do when they have 800 lbs of man meat crushing them in the backfield every play.lol this is a ridiculous post. a kid who can't even stay on the field for an entire season is #2 behind VICK? rodgers and brees would like to have a word with you.
Your name dont show that your bitter at all.Lions fans of this board. Your team is 1-0. I know beating the Buccaneers by 7 points is such an amazing feat and all, but come on.
OK then, Your team just got beat by the Lions, so they suck. Hows that feel, better? My response to your anger and fishing is bolded above. For the 90th time since you cant read but love to correct spelling...I never said Stafford is better than Rodgers or Brees, but if I was ranking NFC QBsGood grief. "its" should be "it's". Also, "didnt" is "didn't". Finally, you once again used "your" instead of "you're." Your source credibility (see what I did there?) takes a hit every time you post. Edit: not to mention, the crappy throw above and behind the receiver certainly had something to do with it being picked. Spelling has nothing to do with my knowledge of football, but its your attempt to deflect your ignorance on the game.
And let's follow through on your point. If Stafford is better than Brees at this point...is Newton the best QB in the NFL? You're LHUCKSian at this point dude, just knock it off. I never once said Stafford is better than Brees just a top 5 talent, I said that many times, but whats funny is your talking about my spelling, how would you know how good of a speller I am if you can't read?
We can always turn to the collective wisdom of the Shark Pool. And I know I shouldn't continue to take your (by the way, this is the correct use of "your") bait, but it's really hard for me to be the bigger man when the guy who thinks Stafford is arguably better than Brees and Rodgers as an NFL quarterback is also such a jerk about it. So let me just ask you straight up, and see if I can get a straight answer: Again I never once said Stafford is better than Brees or Rodgers, just a top 5 talent, and as I talk football you resort to name calling, Irony.
Can you rank the top QBs in the NFC? Where do you put Stafford? Is he above Brees and Rodgers? I am talking Talent, but you have not noticed that in my above posts, as you can not read. But to answer your question see below....
Yes, and I thought Vegas would work that into the line more than they did, a 10-6 home team last year vs a 6-10 road team from the north should be worth more than 2 points?I was at that game yesterday. I am a lions fan living in Southwest Florida for the last 12 years. I did not like our chances for one main reason. People do not realize how brutally hot it is Tampa and Miami in the months of September and the begining of October. We almost decided not to go to the game because we knew what we were in for. It was sweltering. Visiting teams have to wear their road darks which adds an extra 3 to 5 degrees. That was a gutsy win. You could tell we were gassed by fourth quater. I am curious if anyone has done research on teams from the north and percentage of wins on the road in florida (day games) in the early part of the season. Florida teams have a clear advantage.
No actual stats, but over the past 20 years Miami starts pretty hot and plays a bit more poorly as the season goes on. I bet some of it has to do with their HFA early in the season, as well as the team not being used to cold weather late in the season. I bet it's more of a HFA late in the season for cold weather teams (at least those that have balls to play outside).I am curious if anyone has done research on teams from the north and percentage of wins on the road in florida (day games) in the early part of the season. Florida teams have a clear advantage.
I just skimmed the thread, but it seems to me like only 1 fan is getting carried away. As a Lions fan I am happy with the win yesterday, but they had a lot of areas that they could have improved. A team ready to win 12 games wins the game yesterday by 14 points or more. It was nice to see them win a game that they made mistakes. In the last few years they always made enough mistakes to lose. The feel around the Lions has changed. How many wins that turns into will be determined in the next 16 or more weeks.'Reepicheep said:Lions fans getting carried away in here. Debate 101, seriously? I wasn't implying that the team's record over the previous seasons had some bearing on how they would perform this year. I was merely saying that, if I personally had been rooting for a team that had a losing record for a decade, I think I would try to resist the urge to start expecting 12-win seasons and pro-bowl quarterbacks the second my team started showing signs of life. If the Lions go 9-7 or 10-6 this year and miss the playoffs, it will be a huge accomplishment for the franchise and mark a complete emergence from the ruin left by Matt Millen. I hope you're able to enjoy it if that's how it plays out.I recall for Packers fans, they had to remember winning games again a few times over. What does last 3 seasons records have to do with this year what so ever?
