Like you provide anything to any thread? You haters are just trolling, so tell me, who needs to be put on ignore? And the Lions will probably face some better teams than a struggling TB team and one of the worst teams in KC.CBS Sports has the Lions #5 on their power rankings. Yes, I think that is where they are headed. Detroit is the only NFC team which has shown they are very good on both sides of the ball. Lots of thing will happen over a season, but if you were living in a vacuum and had nothing else to go on but this year, you would be picking Houston and Detroit in the Super Bowl. Now KC is a train wreck, but I still see TB as a half-way decent team. His bat signal is to suggest that Sam Bradford wasn't the greatest QB prospect of all time. I'd give that a shot. This thread needs more instinctive...kinda sad he crawled away and did not come in here to face the music
NO ain't no slouch, and I think you're still overestimating the subpar offenses DET has played so far. TB was shut out for one half vs. MIN (if that's the half-way you were referring to)- KC and TB were probably two of the more anemic looking offenses in the preseason.I understand that you finally have something to feel good about as a DET fan, but the hype is a little crazy in here considering they haven't even had a 8+ win season in over a decade. Can I get a Denny Green "CROWN 'EM" in here??Yes, I think that is where they are headed. Detroit is the only NFC team which has shown they are very good on both sides of the ball. For the record, I'm buying Detroit. Anybody could see the potential last year, with the many "almost" games against top teams, not to mention taking down the eventual champs.Yes, I think that is where they are headed. Anyways, "in a vacuum", Detroit has blown out the Chiefs in a similar fashion as the Buffalo Bills, and played the Bucs slightly better than the Vikings were able to. Again, I see Detroit as the biggest threat to the Packers in the North. But the resume is still thin. At Minnesota and at Dallas aren't exactly going to be great trophies either, but the 2010 Lions lose those games, so I do think 4-0 would say a lot about what kind of team they are becoming.Generally agree with all this. Not sure about that home record though. In a normal year ANY Detroit road win is a big deal. The fact that you can list teams like Minn, Dallas, and TB as teams Detroit should be able to beat on the road says a lot about where the Lions are. I don't see Detroit losing at home this year. But beating decent teams like Minn and Dallas on the road is a decent test for anyone. This is the NFL. If the Lions are 4-0 after this, they are clearly one of the elite teams.

Not a whole lot of talk today though...do we still think he's the best QB behind Vick? Or would we prefer Rodgers and Brees? Just wondering. Since that was the argument I was involved in. And I'll still stand by the oh-so-on-a-limb statement that he isn't as good as Rodgers...And I'd still rather have Romo. Hard to say with Bradford since his receiving corps leads the NFL in drops by so much. Stafford looks WAY better than Freeman though. Who else did I have on the list? I'm standing by the decision to place him after Rodgers, Brees, Romo. I'll give on Freeman at this (early) point in the year. I'm undecided on Bradford still. (Wait, does that count as bat signal?)Just not a lot else to say. It isn't difficult to defend the statement that a guy with a career completion percentage below 60% isn;t as good as Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees. This thread needs more instinctive...kinda sad he crawled away and did not come in here to face the music
OO I have a bat signal? Sa-weeeet! I've been here all along, just hasn't been anything to respond to.His bat signal is to suggest that Sam Bradford wasn't the greatest QB prospect of all time. I'd give that a shot.
Although it's not for here - I don't think I've ever said that. Only that he was the best QB prospect since Manning back when he was still a prospect and not the #1 overall pick yet. I don't think that was that far out there to say about a guy who had 50+ TDs and won the Heisman before he was injured. It's not smack. They're a team that could/should make the playoffs. GB and DET will compete for the division. Stafford still isn't better than Brees or Rodgers. :duh:Not a big surprise that Instinctive tried to come in here when the Lions were down to talk smack. Lions are 3-0 and undefeated in their division. They snapped a 13 game road losing streak to the Vikings today and were able to come back after being down big at the half. Hallmark of a winner.Stafford with a pedestrian 70% comp% 8.2 YPA, 378 yards and 2 TDs. Averaging 325 and 3 TDs per game.
Agreed. Best is lethal in the passing game though. Watching, you have to wonder if it't his vision or the OLine. He gets hit in the backfield quite a bit. Working him on the screens and on the angle/circle routes out of the backfield is nice though. They could learn from Brees and Sproles in New OrleansLions definitely need to get something going in the running game. Best is just not getting it done.

The defense isn't talked about enough. The offense has been good/great, but I think the D has been even better. That front four is soooo good that they cover up a lot of deficiencies at corner - my vote for weakest link on the team. When they get Fairley in there.....wow. The ability to drop 7 or 8 into coverage every play and not need to blitz in order to create pressure is underrated.I don't think LeShoure will ever be useful. That achilles injury is one I have never seen/heard anyone come back from. It'd be cool if he proved me wrong though - my family is in it's 6th straight generation of U of I alums, so I pull for their players too.Agreed Instinctive. I believe the Lions knew this and that's why they drafted LeShore to be the "Thunder" and have Best as the "Lightning" the other backs on the roster just aren't good enough to fit that bill. If the Lions look this good without LeShore and Fairley, just imagine once they can get all the pieces together.
I do sincerely hope that they start paying some small amount of attention to the O-Line. If they could ever get decent there, they'd be unstoppable
I have been saying, but no one has been buying, but Harrison is the best RB on this team.Lions definitely need to get something going in the running game. Best is just not getting it done.
I'm pretty giddy right now - as are most Lions fans - but I can honestly say I was not shocked.I said in the game thread at the start of the second half, now we find out if it's the same old Lions, or something special.Still a bit shocked they won this game today. at half time I simply hoped they'd show some moxie and make it a game...probably lose 27-17 or something like that. No way in hell did I think they would win that game after the way the 1st half ended.
Stafford is about to be a super star. That second TD throw to Megatron was insane....against his body running away and just a bullet right on the numbers. he's always had a cannon for an arm, but his accuracy has been extremely impressive, and he's going to be a top 5 QB by the end of this season - in both fantasy and real NFL value.
I'd like to mention Titus Young too...this kid is good. He's made some fantastic catches the last two games, including a huge grab in OT just before Calvin's big catch. I picked him up before last week and think he could end up being a nice option as your WR3 as the season wears on and he learns more of the offense.
Agreed - I knew he could still hit 50 yarders indoors, but the kickoffs are like from 6-8 years ago. Especially after battling injuries the last few years, very surprising. He got a standing O at Ford Field last week when it was announced he set the record for most games for one team. Class act.I'm absolutely ecstatic for Hanson especially. I actually thought they should have given the job to Rayner after the preseason, but Hanson changed my mind with the first game and somehow has added 10 yards to his kick offs and has now hit 50 yarders with plenty to spare in consecutive weeks. No one deserves to see some success in this league more than that guy. 20 years of nothing but production without a complaint...it's great to see him get to win a game for them like today.
Fifty ####### years I've waited for a QB like this. Dayum it feels good.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Kid's a stud. As horrid as the team played in the first half, it sure was nice to see him lead the team back while getting hurried and sacked repeatedly in the process.Fifty ####### years I've waited for a QB like this. Dayum it feels good.I couldn't have said it better myself.

Couldn't agree more.I liked Stafford throw to Megatron in OT more than the TD pass though. That was a throw only a few guys in the world can make. In the face of pressure and unable to set his feet, still perfect velocity and touch. Megatron made a great catch too. That was a top 10 play this week IMO. Just 2 disgustingly talented guys using their natural abilities to maximum potential. Lions are for real. I wonder how much better they will be when Fairley comes back?Still a bit shocked they won this game today. at half time I simply hoped they'd show some moxie and make it a game...probably lose 27-17 or something like that. you're right on that pass to Megatron...and he's had 2 or 3 balls in each game so far where i've rewound it and just been in awe of how easy he's made an incredibly difficult play look. Calvin is a physical freak of nature, so no one would mistake him for anyone else when he goes up for a ball, but Stafford is very Elway-ish in his ho hum looks and physical presence, but then makes throws under duress that are just hard to believe. It's hard to find anything about the guy to complain about...his attitude is amazing, his fire is undeniable, his arm is a cannon, and he seems to have a very high FB IQ. That "mic'd up" segment says it all when the NFL rep comes up at the end and says "I wish we could mic you every week." I was very luke warm on the pick when they drafted him, but I have drunk the kool aid and am all in. I've been waiting to see a good QB in Honolulu Blue since Greg Landry was at the helm when I was a kid. I'm giddy with excitement over this guy and for the first time feel like we've finally got our man. This just feels like a special team.Couldn't agree more.I liked Stafford throw to Megatron in OT more than the TD pass though. That was a throw only a few guys in the world can make. I said it 3 years ago when he came, Stafford is the best QB to come out of college since Manning. Glad he's been able to live up to that potential despite the injury bug his first two years. Furthermore, I'm glad Det has handled him correctly and built a team around him so he could become the player he is now. 3 years ago I was very concerned that Det would ruin him. That clearly hasn't happened.you're right on that pass to Megatron...and he's had 2 or 3 balls in each game so far where i've rewound it and just been in awe of how easy he's made an incredibly difficult play look. Lions are for real. I wonder how much better they will be when Fairley comes back?
Probably only a top 5 defense. Their secondary is vastly improved. Their D-Line is damn good and their linebacking core is rock solid. Defense is not their problem. Running the ball has been a problem, but Best has still been effective catching the ball out of the backfield and is very dangerous in the open field. The Lions did not give up a sack the first two games, the only team in the NFL to do that. The Vikings did get to Stafford today though, but still the Lions offensive line has been better than average in pass protection. I am not overly concerned with the offensive line. It would be nice if they could run better, and if it were me, I would give Harrison more chances. If that is their biggest weakness, I like their chances in the NFC.The achilles' heel will be the running game and the secondary. Teams will realize all they have to do is pressure Stafford when they are in shotgun and have 7 in the box when they are not. The offensive line is still one of the poorest in the league.
The defense as a whole is average at best, and there will be times when they are on the field for long periods of time and since the Lions running game is sub-par, time of possession will be in favor of the other team.
They have success running the ball from shotgun at times, but if they want playoff success, they need to become more balanced.
The secondary has not been challenged at all so far imo. The passing attacks of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Vikes are very anemic. They will be exposed next week vs Dallas. They will find themselves in too many shootouts.Probably only a top 5 defense. Their secondary is vastly improved. Every team has flaws. Evaluations like this act like there are multiple teams out there without any weaknesses that will hammer the Lion's soft spots. Looking across the league, where are these teams? Green Bay and who? Even Green Bay is giving up tons of passing yards. New England just got shredded by Buffalo. The Lion's defense has been solid. They've won two tough road games and obliterated a team at home who almost beat San Diego. No, they're not perfect. Elite quarterbacks will be able to throw on the Lions if they get enough time. Will they get enough time when Fairley gets in the mix? We'll see.The secondary has not been challenged at all so far imo. The passing attacks of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Vikes are very anemic. this is simply not true, and it's one of those persistent myths that i don't understand. by every metric from last season the o-line was in the teens - an average middle of the pack line. not great, but not terrible either. the fact that stafford came into this week without having been sacked should be enough to tell you that the o-line is at the very least serviceable. Backus and Raiola are what they are - and while i'm not a fan Backus in particular, you don't start 300+ games in the NFL between the two of them unless you can play in the league. Sims and Peterman are both good at the guard spots, leaving RT as the main weak link, with cherilus as the last guy from the Millen regime we need to replace. if Hilliard can do that, then this can become an above average line....but should at worst remain an average one. the main problem with the run game is not having an inside pound it up the gut guy - that was supposed to be Leshour. Morris and Harrison aren't that guy either, so they will struggle in short yardage. frankly, this is the main reason i thought it was a mistake to release Jerome felton - he fit that role perfectly and was a nice option on 3rd downs to catch the ball too. they should have kept him. why he's on the street but keiland williams is playing is beyond me (as is why williams seems to be the RB2 right now). The achilles' heel will be the running game and the secondary. Teams will realize all they have to do is pressure Stafford when they are in shotgun and have 7 in the box when they are not. The offensive line is still one of the poorest in the league.
Yep, that's your 2011 Lions. The offense is like a pinball machine, they'll light it up with high scores. But it's a fair weather, dome offense right now. Can anyone imagine them winning a December/January game on the road in nasty weather? Then again, that's a pretty sweet dilemma to contemplate.this is simply not true, and it's one of those persistent myths that i don't understand. by every metric from last season the o-line was in the teens - an average middle of the pack line. not great, but not terrible either. the fact that stafford came into this week without having been sacked should be enough to tell you that the o-line is at the very lease serviceable. Teams that can throw do ok in bad weather games...and I'm sure they will go outside and practice in the December Detroit weather. Also, the track record for how they performed before this year matters nothing to this team.Yep, that's your 2011 Lions. The offense is like a pinball machine, they'll light it up with high scores. FixedOnly because you had to forget that word as you cant be serious.I have been saying, but no one has been buying, but Harrison is the NOT best RB on this team.Lions definitely need to get something going in the running game. Best is just not getting it done.
