Lions vs. Bengals Preseason 7:30 Eastern (1 Viewer)

Pinner for a loss of one and the announcers telling us how strong of a runner he really is.

2nd down, draw play to pinner for 3 yards.

It's 3rd down and 8, Stanton looked like he was going to be sacked. He somehow gets out of the pocket, showed more speed than I thought he had and actually got 10 yards for a first down. He went head first on that play looking for the first down.

Next play, play action pass, beautiful pass 50 yard TD strike to Middleton.

Another 3 and out for Rowe, Rowe, Rowe your boat.....sacked twice on that series and they started off 1st and 5.

Lions getting the ball at the Cinci 33 with a very nice punt return by Kenneth Moore.

Lions looking like they're trying to just run the clock out with some solid runs by Pinner.

Stanton is 2 for 2 with a 50 yard TD. That's just not enough QPT Marinelli, come on we need to see more than that from the kid.

Nothing post-game on Ocho Cinco?

Falls like the one described worry me -- it's easy to break a collarbone like that and be lost for half the season or longer. Hopefully it's just a bruise!!!

Haven't watched the second half yet, but a few things.

Chad Johnson's injury looked and acted like a shoulder dislocation at first glance, but may have just been a subluxation -- he looked okay on the sideline and on the way to the lockerroom and those things are hard to get back in place on the field. We'll see there. May also have been a funny way to break a collarbone or separate a shoulder.

I don't think Dizon looked any better than average at best. I liked his speed, but he was running around blocks instead of shedding, overrunning some plays and generally out of the play if anyone got their hands on him and missed a tackle or two to boot. It was nice to see him against the Bengal first team in the second quarter, though. What were you seeing through your Lion colored glasses, Tony? ;)

Rivers looked pretty solid, more comfortable than last week. Still some false steps, but he was playing more downhill. Alternated nickel snaps with Brandon Johnson early (who gave way to Blackstock at the SLB pretty quickly) then really wasn't in the nickel at all in the second quarter.

Liked the line with Bobbie Williams more than Ghiaciuc.

Not excited to hear that I'm going to see Sims taken off a cart now.

Marvin says Chad's shoulder came out and went right back in on the field. Pretty much what it appeared. Hopefully, this won't be a recurring issue. Johnson should be able to return opening weekend, if not for a series during the last preseason game.

So, in the boards opinion, (especially AB) did Stanton do enough tonight to pass Orlovsky?

Jene, AB, what did you think of Bodden's performance?

Stanton didn't play enough to pass Orlovsky, but he was pretty impressive. Orlovsky looked rather pedestrian to me. He still had the edge to be the backup, but I'm not so sure it's as strong as it was before. Stanton needs to play more in my opinion before he can really be judged. His athleticism stood out yesterday and he made a nice deep throw on the TD pass. I thought Bodden was solid and he made a nice play to knock a pass away in the end zone.

Thanks for the insight AB. Having a hard time deciding whether to keep him rostered. If you have a sec, hit up my add/drop post in the AC. Thanks.

Stanton only went into that game with 9+ minutes left in the 4th quarter. Why didn't they give him more time? Are they going to change that in the remaining two preseason games?

I really don't know. I thought yesterday would be like the first game, with them splitting time. I'm sure that question will be asked of Marinelli during the week.

Unless it was an inadvertant game management oversight, the concern I have as a Stanton owner is that they were more concerned with getting Orlovsky reps than in seeing how Stanton could do, which implies that they already view Orlovsky as the primary backup who needs more urgently to get up to speed in this new offense than does Stanton. I'm hoping Marinelli dispells that notion clearly.

No, because he's clearly better than Orlovsky last night and would push Kitna for the starting job, then there would be a QB controversy to start off the season and that's not what they want.As the Lions lose, all of a sudden you'll see Stanton magically move up the pecking order ahead of Orlovsky like we're supposed to believe he's going to get that much better from now until 6 weeks from now.If there's no truth to that conspiracy, I would think it impossible for Stanton not only to get more time next game, but to actually go in 2nd in front of Orlovsky and see what he can do with the starters for a little bit.In just that short time, what impressed me the most was his ability to play on the run. In the Lions offense this season, they're expecting their QB's to be mobile, lots of bootlegs and roll outs to by time for the QB, something I don't think Orlovsky does very well.
