my 10th bday present was a giant, very cool glider (probably as big as me). way too big to throw on the street, so my parent took us all to the Marina in SF where there were wide open fields. The first toss, the wind takes it and it just keeps going and going and going, straight into the bay... but tantalizingly close- like 15-20' off the shore. the heartbreak watching it slowly sink out of view while just out of reach...

eta: just trying to think why we went there and not to a field in my home-town (Sausalito)... at a guess, we might have had the party at the old Exploratorium nearby.
