Live Mock Draft (2 Round) (1 Viewer)

1.1 Houston - Reggie Bush (RB, USC)

Although Houston has many other needs and I believe they would be best served trading down and get more picks in the first three rounds the first pick will be Bush.

The most dynamic and explosive playmaker in college football during his last two seasons (2004-'05). Is a versatile weapon. A huge threat every time he touches the ball as a runner, receiver and return specialist. Has exceptional quickness, body control and speed. Shows a rare second-gear in space and will run away from defenders once he reaches the second level. His vision is outstanding. He sees things quickly and has the stop-and-start ability to exploit small creases when they become available. His balance is exceptional. He is a slippery runner who will spin through would-be tacklers and crawl for extra yards at the end of runs. His ability to pivot and hit cutback lanes is outstanding. Lacks bulk but he has impressive natural strength. Has the frame to improve his bulk. He shows a tremendous feel for the passing game. He is a smooth, crafty route runner. Plucks well on the run and will adjust to the poorly thrown ball. Is a deep threat as a receiver; shows the ability to consistently separate. Also is a huge weapon after the catch. Tremendous elusiveness in space. A proven winner that played in three national championship games and won two national championships during three seasons at USC.

Other Tidbits: 1

Working in front of about 150 scouts and personnel officials, a group that included four head coaches and several general managers, Bush was surgically proficient in every drill in which he participated. He posted an eye-opening 40½-inch vertical jump, performed a very solid 24 repetitions on the standard 225-pound bench press, and was clocked in the 40-yard sprint in 4.37-4.41 seconds, according to a few scouts. The electronic times for Bush were a little quicker, in the 4.33-4.37 range.

Other Tidbits: 2

Bush played in all 13 games as a freshman in 2003, when he rushed for 521 yards and three touchdowns on 90 carries, while chipping in with 314 yards and four TD's on 15 catches. He also averaged 27.3 yards with a touchdown on 18 KOR's. As a sophomore in 2004, Bush rushed for 908 yards and six TD's on 143 carries and had 509 yards and seven Td's on 43 receptions. He also averaged 25.6 yards per KOR and 15.7 yards per PR with two TD's. Bush finished that season fifth in the Heisman voting and also was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Pac-10. He had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder in the offseason and was limited in spring practice but has showed no signs of its affects as a junior in 2005, when he won the Heisman Trophy and was a unanimous first-team All-American. During that season, Bush rushed for 1,740 yards on 200 carries, caught 37 passes for 478 yards, while also averaging 9.9 yards per punt return and 17.6 yards per kickoff return. In total, Bush finished with 2,890 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2005. Bush is the highest rated running back and overall prospect (regardless of position) in the 2006 draft. Bush will need to add some bulk to his frame and there are some concerns regarding his potential to carry a full load at the NFL level. However, Bush is the most dynamic athlete in this class and his versatility is what sets him apart from other top prospects. Even if Bush needs to be eased into a fulltime ball carrier's role as a rookie, he can still remain on the field as a receiver out of the backfield, in the slot, or split out wide on passing downs and he also can provide a huge boost in the return game for the team that drafts him. Athletes like Bush do not come along very often, which is why we would have no hesitation selecting him with the first overall pick in 2006.

2. New Orleans Saints D'Brickashaw Ferguson (OT, Virginia)

I think they might move down, but if they don't they go with the big bookend tackle to protect Mr. Brees.

I agree Houston would do best to trade down, but I don't know who in the top 7 or 8 (after which it becomes too expensive to move up) is willing to go up and get Bush. However, my trade down idea with the Jets was contingent on getting Ferguson at 1.4, and I don't think he's getting past New Orleans, especially after they traded Gandy.

This is the correct Saints pick.

I agree on this pick. Some say they might take Mario, but this is the direction they need to go..

good idea

I'll wait a couple minutes and see if any offer comes.

As I posted in the other thread, we'd look to move down a few slots, at the reasonable price of a 07 1st or 06 2nd

Also, McNair can be included.

There was an interesting Article today on sportingnews site about their other Tackle Offensive lineman Jammal Brown, the Saints' top draft pick last season moving to the other side this year because they believe that he can play left side and use their draft pick on someone else.Sportingnews

Ok, nothing coming, I'll take the obvious.

Matt Leinart, Quarterback

The consumate professional, no real question marks here except that his surrounding talent was exceptional. Good accuracy and vision, not a cannon for an arm, but good enough, and with his accuracy, a better deep ball than others who are stronger. Not the most agile, but he doesn't have to be.

We consider him a higher rated Tom Brady.

1.4 - N.Y. Jets - Mario Williams, DE, N.C. State

Not only fills a need with the loss of Abraham, but is a much safer pick in terms of his prospective NFL success than Jay Cutler, who was also an option here. Bottom line : I don't think a lot of GMs are sold on Cutler as a star in this league - find me one who doesn't think Williams will be an immediate impact player. the guy has a freakish size/speed blend, and is strong enough to hold his own in run defense, and can get after the passer like nobody's business. He's the best player available here, and the lowest risk pick to boot. Even Jets fans can't boo this one.

1.05 AJ Hawk

Sorry Andy.

Would have gone Mario if he was available. Ngata and Young (just for Andy) were considerations. IMO, Hawk is the more safe pick, worthy of top 5 and does fill a need. Whether Thompson thinks that or not is anyone's guess.

1.6 Vernon “Da Freak” Davis, TE – Mayland

With EJ coming off another season full of injuries, I don’t see how the 49ers will be able to pass on VD. If EJ does happen to comeback and play a full season, the 49ers will have the most dominating TE duo in the league. This pick will also help Alex Smith mature into the QB the 49ers are hoping he will turn into. For a young QB to mature quickly, he needs a dominating TE. For example, Brees wasn’t that great until Gates came along. Eli Manning has Shockey and is maturing each time he steps on the field. This move doesn’t just help Alex Smith; it also helps the running game. For a team to have a running game, they have to establish the passing game and VD will help to establish the passing game the 49ers are looking for.

Sorry if bad grammar, trying to write this quickly as possible and not get caught by boss :D

Just as a sidebar, I have heard a lot of rumor that the Broncos are on the verge of trading Ashley Lelie, and are planning on moving up to #5 or #6 to take Davis. I will now excuse myself while Andy D's head explodes. :)

I do not think Ashley Lelie is worth a #5 or #6 pick. And the 49ers just traded Brandon Lloyd whom I would consider a better WR than AL. If Denver is going to trade up I do not think it will be with the 49ers.Sorry didn't mean to highjack.

Interesting. I assume they don't expect to get the #6 pick for the 15 and lelie. Lelie might be worth a 3rd. What did Lloyd go for?

I would think it would take something like both Denver's 1sts + Lelie for the 5th overall (Davis) + a 3rd/4th rounderBy the way, Lloyd went for a 2006 3rd AND a 2007 4th

As I don't see lkgolf23.

What are the time limits per pick?

I may also have to run at some point.

I will PM Milfoshane if I do.

1.4 - N.Y. Jets - Mario Williams, DE, N.C. State

find me one who doesn't think Williams will be an immediate impact player.
Ask and ye shall receive:
Mario Williams, DE, North Carolina State: 6-7, 295. Posted just one sack in first five games of '05 when opponents kept cut-blocking him. After learning how to cope, he put up 13 1/2 sacks in last seven games, including four against Southern Mississippi and Maryland and three against Wake Forest. "The big question will be, why did he underachieve the first half of the season?" one scout said. "Now in the second half the majority of those sacks came against bad players. Let's don't underestimate that."

I'm down for puting somekind of time limit on picks . What do you guys think is fair?

No, it would be two separate trades. Lelie to whomever for whatever compensation they agree on, then the #15 and #22 picks go to either GB or SF for the #5 or #6 pick.

5 Green Bay -Kleck -AJ Hawk (OLB, Ohio State) Sorry Andy
From Mike Mulligan in the Chicago SunTimes:A.J. HAWK Ohio State linebacker Only one linebacker, LaVar Arrington, has been taken among the top five picks over the last nine drafts, but plenty of draftniks figure Hawk will break that trend. He was an ultra-productive college player who produced 368 career tackles, including 37 for losses and 141/2 sacks with 91/2 of those coming last year. The Bears made Brian Urlacher the No. 9 selection in 2000, and you can argue that was a projection pick on a college safety as opposed to a proven commodity such as Hawk, who dominated at the highest level. Hawk had the same 40-yard dash time as Young (4.59) but is not nearly the same boom-or-bust pick. Barring injury, he should be a tremendous NFL player. Still, he might be more likely to free-fall out of the top 10 than anyone because the position he plays might be the deepest on the board.

I'd say 30-60 mins during business hours. if we have a clock after hours, I'm going to get timed out, so whatever you guys want to do, I can't really set those ground rules.

I've heard that also and i hope it doesn't happen. If it does and the niners dont' draft VD a lot of :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: then :banned: :banned: :banned: to make the pain go away.

blkgolf23 PMd said he would pick in a few. I didn't see the message. Let's give him a little time.

I'm here all day till at least 10 PM EST. What do you guys want to do about the 2nd round? tonight or tomorrow morning?

I've been saving some very funny but mostly very harsh criticism from scouts only and about 40 of the top 50 prospects. It should make for comic relief before the draft if I ever edit it into one article. One scout or another thinks every player in this draft stinks. One scout pretty much says that. "They're all pretty weak. This class is a disappointment. There's noone out there to help us."

1.8 Wisnton Justice

They could have went with either Bunkley or Justice. After a great workout I think the Bills are going to jump on this guy.

I have training all day tomorrow and wednesday. Don't know if or how often i'll have access to the net.edit: If everyone chooses to do it tomorrow, i could probably PM 5Rings (fellow niner fan), to see if he would be interested in doing the 2nd round.

BPA in my opinion and a need for a poor Lions Secondary.

6' 1", 205 Pounds, ferocious tackler, skilled ballhawk, runs like the wind {4.3's}, and can excell at Safety or Corner.

For the record had 2 trade offers for this spot.

Not sure if I am allowed to discuss.

I leave work at 4 eastern and will get home at 5. If you guys can't wait on me and want to make the pick it won't hurt my feelings. I'll also send a PM with a short list for Miami to milf.

1.10 Arizona Cardinals - Jimmy Williams (CB, Virginia Tech)

It also has become a popular theory that the Cardinals will draft a quarterback with this pick. However, Dennis Green does not plan on being around long enough to groom a rookie at that position. The team extended QB Kurt Warner's contract and made a huge splash with the signing of RB Edgerrin James. To balance things out, look for the team to draft the best available defensive player with this pick. Williams' stock has slipped because of his inconsistent play as a senior and his abrasive attitude at the combine, but his stellar showing at Virginia Tech's on-campus scouting day served as a reminder to scouts in attendance that Williams is still an exceptional talent. A combo of Williams and Antrel Rolle would give the Cardinals one of the best young cornerback tandems in the NFL.

Has rare size/speed combination. A versatile prospect with experience at DC and FS. He is an ideal fit as a press cover corner in a man-to-man scheme. He is tall, has long arms and is strong for the position. He does a good job of pressing WRs at the LOS and taking them out of their routes. He is surprisingly fluid for such a tall DC. Shows the quickness, hips and top-end speed to turn and run with any WR in the NFL if he opens up in time. He shows very good closing burst when the ball is in the air. He is physical and challenges the jump ball. His size gives him a big advantage in the red zone. He has developed excellent ball skills and is a playmaker with the ball in his hands. He fills hard vs. the run and has outstanding potential as a run support DC. He is an aggressive player who will throw his body around and mix it up. He flashes some upside when turned loose on the blitz. Also has experience returning punts.

Sure - this isn't espionage, just a mock draft.
