Liverpool FC - The Climb to a Superclub (1 Viewer)

:goodposting:  there were many other better examples from that season, and bigger factors as well.

Yup, didn't even need to win that game.

The palace collapse was much, much worse
My thought at the time was, midfielders give up possession at midfield all the time, even world-class midfielders. But in most cases when that happens, they aren't the last man, especially with a premier league title on the line. Ba took the ball in the center circle and had nothing but green green grass and a goalkeeper between him and the kop. Not a single defender in your half? That's on Rodgers. He didn't have to play for a draw, but he didn't have to play balls-out either as a draw would have sufficed.

Wins at Stoke and West Brom were quite surprising to me.  I hoped for 4 points out of these two games.  In truth, Liverpool can feel quite fortunate to get two wins.  It took a crazy set-piece and an amazing Firmino volley to get those 6 points.

The defense is playing very solid for once, and Miggy is playing out of his mind.  When Lovren/Matip play together, this defense is actually not too bad.

5 games left for LFC.  Winning these last two road games is meaningless if points are dropped against "easier" teams.

Manchester United beating Chelsea was a surprise to me.  I fully expected them to drop points which would have made things much easier and given the team a bit of slack.  All that being said, I think LIV SHOULD win at bare minimum 3 of the last 5 games which should be enough.  The possibility of winning 4 or even all 5 is certainly high.

I think the collective LFC community are waiting for the other shoe to drop.  Years of misfortune have given the fanbase a lack of belief, and Klopp is doing everything he can to change that.  My biggest concern is still the loss of Mane, as the offense is still noticeably worse.  Losing Henderson, Lallana and Mane has been tough, and I'm proud of how the team have hung in there, but we need Lallana back as he ignites the offense.  Apparently he'll be back for the final 4 games.

The margin for error for all these teams is so slim.  It's amazing how one game completely changes the narrative.  Arsenal was my biggest fear, then they lost to CP.  LIV could slip in 2 straight games and Arsenal could be right back in it.

It seems almost impossible to see United pull off a string of road wins v Tott/City/Arsenal....but hey you never know.  I didn't see them beating Chelsea either.

You keep saying this in every post. Again, stop reading RAWK, or twitter. It is not correct.

ETA: Obviously not in every post, but I've seen it at least 4 times referencing the run-in.

I don't really agree with you on this, but I'm sure you know more LIV fans than I do and all I have to go on are internet forums.

I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN GET 4TH - doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Ah - what could have been:

Former Liverpool chief executive officer Ian Ayre says the club did not complete the signing of Dele Alli as a teenager because they felt he was not worth the fee MK Dons were seeking.

Alli grew up as a Liverpool fan and met with then-manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of a potential transfer.

However, Liverpool and MK Dons could not agree a deal and the 18-year-old eventually completed a £5 million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in February 2015.

"There was interest in the player, but where it got to was that the demands at that time were not fitting to what he had achieved at that point," Ayre said at a lecture in Liverpool on Wednesday.

Whew. He could have taken a roster spot from Rickie Lambert! Oh noes!

Jurgen Klopp flies to Kabul to watch a young Afghani play football. He is suitably impressed & arranges for the player to come over.
Two weeks later Liverpool are 2-0 down to Everton with only 20 minutes left.
The manager gives the young Afghani striker the nod & on he goes.
The lad is a sensation. He scores 3 goals in 20 minutes & wins the game for Liverpool . The fans are delighted, the players & the coach are delighted & the media love the new star.
When the player comes off the pitch he phones his mum to tell her about his first day in English football.
'Hello mum, guess what?' he says 'I played for 20 minutes today, we were 2 - 0 down but I scored 3, they call it a hat-trick, & we won. Everybody loves me, the fans, the press, they all love me.'
'Just wonderful,' says his mum, 'Let me tell you about my day
Your father got shot in the street, your sister & I were ambushed & assaulted.
Your brother has joined a local gang of looters & set fire to some buildings & all while you tell me that you were having a great time!!'
The young lad is very upset. 'What can I say mum, but I'm really sorry.'
Sorry?!!! Sorry?!!!' says his mum.
'It's your bloody fault we came to Liverpool in the first place!'

I'll be happy to see Liverpool back in the Champions League. Its where the club has done its best work (no Heysel jokes, please). They can't do much worse than the regular slate of English clubs have done the past 5 years or so.

What a relief that the season ends.  Shout-out to Arsenal who won 5 straight to finish the season and put all the pressure on this team.  They responded with 2 really solid games and survived.

2 big problems for Liverpool this season:

1. Defensive consistency when either Lovren or Matip missed time (the defense is actually pretty stout when both play)

2. Depth

Hopefully both of those problems can be addressed in the off-season.  I'm sure this will be an insane off-season.

I feel like LIV have some significant ground to make up.  Tottenham and Chelsea are complete teams and will add to what they have.  City have been unbelievably scary whenever Jesus plays and United will probably spend 200M.

But for now, the CL should help with the recruitment and Klopp took what I feel is the 6th best roster and achieved 4th.

Great season.

Just FYI:

#ATLGRENAL @ atlgrenalreal

Luciano Potter: "The Liverpool Locker Room, who has the biggest penis?" Lucas Leiva: "The Sturridge"

Seems Southampton are tired of being raped - Liverpool are going to have to at least buy dinner this time:

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40170351

Southampton will report Liverpool to the Premier League over an alleged illegal approach for centre-back Virgil van Dijk, reports BBC Radio Solent.

And so, the battle of wits has begun...

:lmao: :lmao:

Club announcement

Liverpool Football Club would like to put on record our regret over recent media speculation regarding Southampton Football Club and player transfers between the two clubs.

We apologise to the owner, board of directors and fans of Southampton for any misunderstanding regarding Virgil van Dijk.

We respect Southampton's position and can confirm we have ended any interest in the player.

So I should just go ahead and order that Liverpool Van Dijk jersey now, right?
No - I think they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar here.  Soton actually reported Liverpool - who had spoken directly to Van Dijk without permission and essentially told the press.  So, Liverpool were going to be reprimanded - and presumably precluded from acquiring Van Dijk...Had Soton threatened to report LFC, then I think it was a negotiating ploy - actually going to the FA means Soton are not happy, and unlikely to deal with LFC.  I would not get a Soton Van Dijk jersey either though..., maybe Man United or Chelsea?

Carragher suggests that it was the going to the press that did Liverpool in - because all team go to the players before working out the details with the club - but it's not done out in the open.

Meh, souton just crying because they can't keep players or managers.

Vvd will be a Red

If the rumored numbers are correct, Roma did pretty well on the Salah rental. Fun player, a joy to watch him. If it were up to me, he'd still be Chelsea.
