Livin' the Bachelor Life for 10 days - will be in Palm Springs for 2 - AMA (1 Viewer)

My wife and kids are headed to Louisiana for 10 days this week.  I haven't been on any real "vacation" in a LONG time.  So I'm headed out to the desert for a couple of days this weekend.

I've been out there before and yes I know it'll be hot. I like it hot.

I arrive Friday and am hoping to check into my hotel early.  Staying at the Caliente Tropics, which is my favorite spot to stay in PS.  Super cheap with an awesome pool and tiki bar right on site.

Probably going to take it easy Friday night, will grab a burger or pizza somewhere.  I recall one burger place that was especially good but can't find it on Yelp.

Saturday will - hopefully - wake up late and spend the majority of the day at the pool.

Saturday late afternoon I will go get a couple margaritas on the patio of Las Casuelas in downtown PS before bar-hopping into the night.  Haven't decided if I'm going to the casino or not.

Suggestions and "AMA shtick" highly encouraged.

Never been to Palm Springs. Is it busy in August or does it clear out a bit with the heat?

There's only one question that needs to be asked:

How did you get your wife and kids to go on a 10 day vacation without you?

Sinatra’s pool
He has his own pool?  If so, I'm sure it's swanky.

I think it clears out a bit.  I actually like the heat.

Say hi to all the octogenarians for us.
I think they all congregate further east, but if I see any I'll be sure to discuss Matlock, Murder She Wrote and Consumer Wireless plans.   :D

Wife's family is from out there and her dad paid for them to go out.  I declined since I don't have a ton of vacation time and knew that I could have been undergoing a job change.  Doesn't look like that'll be happening.

Where are you going to get your coke... or will the hookers bring it?
Will report back.

What happens in Palm Springs stays in Palm Springs.
Will not report back.

The Caliente Tropics is the place I learned that if someone has explosive diarrhea in the pool state law requires the hotel to post a sign telling people not to go in the pool if they have explosive diarrhea.

True story.

Have a blast.

Just checked out some pictures, the place looks cool- very old school. What is downtown Palm Springs like?

If I recall, OP has an affinity for del taco.

I think we have a great candidate for deadtime webcam showcase

Remember, in Palm Springs we all become the the bonobos- the rare and marvelous “make love not war” great apes who swing through the trees as well as with each other.

Hopefully there won't be any "blasts".  And FWIW, I saw that sign before... in Palm Springs, actually.  It was at a condo complex.

Yeah I dig the old-school vibe of the place.  Downtown PS is eclectic.  There's lots of nice restaurants, shops, etc.

I do love some Del Taco, probably going today since it's Taco Tuesday.

I will try not to "blast" anything in the pool, however.

I was just there over the weekend for a guys golf trip.  Played two courses (Westin Mission Hills - Pete Dye and Escena)  Started about 7:30 and it was fine until about hole 15 then it started to get sweltering.  Temps were in the 115 range for the early afternoon.

It really is too hot to do anything besides sit in a pool and drink cocktails.  As long as you are doing that it is fine.

I am fine with the heat.  It's "only" going to be in the 108-109 range, which is about my top end.

And yeah, I'm going to be sitting by the pool most of the day Saturday.

Friday can't come soon enough!

I'm there every year the day after Memorial Day for a week.  24 guy golf trip.  Mostly all of the PGA West courses + Desert Willow (love that place, great hospitality, 2 excellent tracks). Some years we get lucky.  This year it was low 90's the whole time.  Perfect.  A few years ago we played and it was 115.  Scratch golfer was basically hallucinating on the back nine, chunked 3 in the water.  We've had 1 other guy get hit with heat stroke.  Really dangerous to play in those temperatures.  If you're going to play do it at 7am.  Then hit the pool.

Just did a 40 man mesquite, NV trip. Can’t recommend the early + water enough.

This group has been going for 17 years.  It's 12 man group and everyone gets divided into two teams of 6.  Then play a round in Riverside (2/3 way point to Palm Springs) as a 3 man scramble then on to Palm Springs.  One day is a 2-man match play Shamble, and the second day is an "A" player vs "A" player, B vs B,  etc match play to finish it out.  There are points for everything and the winning team gets drinks and dinner paid for at the Champions Dinner.  The overall top guy gets an inscribed mug and last place guy gets a hideous golf bag he has to use every time he plays for the next year.

This was my first year and it was hot but great.  I am already looking forward to next year.

How's the new bag?

How's the new bag?
I actually contributed to the guy that won it.  We were both F players (avg 105 ish) so we matched up on the last day.   He needed to beat me to avoid the bag.  I shot a 96 and he shot a 123.  I closed him out on the match play at hole 11 (8-0). Not a good day for him.  When factoring in the handicaps of everyone I actually had the lowest net of the group for the day and finished 2nd overall for the weekend.  Best golf I have played in a long time.  Must have been the heat kept me loose.

Just got back from dropping wife and kids off at LAX and now have 10 days of "freedom".

Got a senior dog at home so will likely be working from home a couple of days and/or going home early to "work".

Headed to Palm Springs on Friday for a couple of nights... in case you missed it.   :coffee:

Gonna grab a cheap pizza tonight, going to dinner with the folks tomorrow night.

Should I even put pants on for the next 10 days?

Woke up to a quiet house today and instead of a calming, peaceful feeling... I got super-anxious and had to pop a pill.  :(

Maybe it's knowing I have a lot to do at work today, but I'm thinking it's just loneliness, if that makes any sense.  Or at least knowing it will be this way for another 9 days.

I should be pumped knowing I'm going to Palm Springs tomorrow.  Need to focus on that.

For those that care...

Palm Springs was rather uneventful.  Sat by the pool, had some drinks, some good food... was home by 10am Sunday.

Past few nights have been quiet and, to be honest, lonely.   :sadbanana:

Going out with a buddy to check out a local spot I've never been to tonight... some preseason football, why not.

Also going out tomorrow night, and then the wife and kids are back Saturday night.  I'm ready for them to be back now!
