What a mess
I got to the station around 5:00pm; it was about 8:30pm when Angie was actually walking out thanks to me being about 5 yards lighter (that’s $500, guy). I didn't care about the details when I talked to the clerk; I just wanted to pay and leave.
Backstory as told by Angie:
Turns out her Old Roommate about two years ago (not Amber) was going to move out. Angie said she still owed $400 for her share of the rent that month before she leave. Old Roommate says she doesn’t have the cash but Angie can use Old Roommate’s credit card to get the money. They get into an argument over something completely unrelated; Angie ends up cutting a check for the entire rent then went shopping with Old Roommate’s credit card (and spent about $400). Old Roommate moves out and reports to the police that Angie stole her credit card. Angie was charged with fraud.
They go to court and Angie agrees to the charges knocked down to two counts of petty theft, repay the $400 and other fines/court fees to avoid a fraud charge – no priors. Anyway, she paid some of it but not all – avoided the notices that came to her apartment over several months and they ended up issuing a warrant for the outstanding ~$500.
Last Night:
Angie gets in my car, excited as hell.
Angie: “Lance came to see me but he was no help. Thanks for coming through for me again. (hugs me while I’m driving).
Me: “It’s been a long day; I just wanted to get out of there”
Angie: “Me too, let’s go home”
Me:
….pause….”I’ll drop you off”
Angie: “Can you please come home with me? I don’t just want to sit there alone.”
Me: “I’m tired, I’m going home…my home… and going to sleep. I’ll drop you off at the bar if you want company. (pulled out two $20s) tell you what, the first few drinks are on me”
Angie looks down at the twenty dollar bills, silently staring into them waiting for them to do something. Then she says:
Angie: “Are you made at me?”
Me: “No, I’m just tired”.
Angie: “Well let’s just go to my place, I know how to put you to sleep
”
I don’t answer and just keep driving. About 15 mins later, we’re at the bar. I purposely pulled up on the street side, double parked, blocking traffic while she gets out – making the “gotta go” much easier. She kisses me quickly and jumps out the car.
As I drove off I glanced in the rearview mirror and see the sign for the bar. Coincidentally, the same bar where she asked me to loan her the $3k.
