Local interview with Bill Cowher (1 Viewer)

"I will not be coaching." "I don't miss it at all."

Seemed more relaxed and calm than I've ever seen him. Said the offseason and pre-season has confirmed his decision. He's enjoying time with his family, golfing and has started to learn how to play the piano.

He may coach again sometime, but he seemed very believable that he has no plans to coach next year

Shucks, I appreciate most of everything he did (4 AFC championship losses and terrible special teams aside), but I was really hoping he would coach next year....

....and take Romeo Crennel's place on the Browns..I'd love to beat him twice every year and rub the good ol' black and gold into his chin until he has to go back into retirement.

I guess those rumors from a couple of months ago could still happen

Joe Gibbs' contract runs out in 2 seasons. I see Danny Boy opening up the wallet and GM position to Cowher if he wants it. Seems like a splashy move and as a Redskins fan, I might actually like it.

IMO the itch he'll have to scratch won't start bugging him til week 1. I'm not sure he could make the same statement in oh week 5

While I am sure he has a desire to coach again I think the lure of money and power is what will determine when and where he comes back. I think he'll wait until after the season and see which jobs are open and how much is being offered.

If the job that he wants is avaliable and they're paying top dollar he'll come back and say how much he's missed coaching. If he thinks he can get more money or a better situation by waiting another year he'll do just that.

I think the most likely place he'll land is Washington or Carolina, probably in 2009.

Radio? TV? Any archive?

You know Cowher as much as I do, meaning you should know he's a convincing liar. A few teams will be waving huge money under his nose here in a few months. No doubt he will be signing that fat contract just as soon as it's sitting in front of him.

:missing: Although I think he'll be in either Cleveland or New York in 2008.

Let's just say that it was in the local Cleveland media that Cowher was coming to Cleveland even BEFORE Cowher resigned as Steelers head coach. This thing has been in the works for quite some time.

It makes perfect sense. We know his history there. Plus they will make him a great $$$ offer, and the team is finally getting a solid foundation with young, talented players. This will make our old rivalry meaningful again.

San Diego after Turner flops again.
I would love this, but Marty and Bill are way too close and there is no way Bill would work for AJ after how AJ treated his mentor. Unless Spanos swept AJ out too. and gave Bill all power. Which wont happen either

It would definitely renew the old rivalry but I think it is more likely he'll end up in Washington or Carolina than Cleveland. Cowher will have his pick of teams to coach and he'll be able to name his terms and price. There are a lot sexier options out there than the Browns.Of course this is just my guess and I could be totally wrong...

It was on KDKA TV, the local CBS affiliate. There are a couple of video links on the home page right now.

This was precisely what he said at a private party here in Raleigh that I attended a few months ago. I asked him if he would be broadcasting this season and he said yes. BTW, he is an extremely personable, articulate guy. His speaking skills are good enough IMO that he could have a career as a motivational speaker. In person, he really comes off as a class act. However, in person, you can sort of feel more that his canned answer about not coaching is not a pernament answer.

If you have a good family life, why in the world would you want the stress and put in all those endless hours? He is a smart guy, he probably invested his millions, he does commercials, he can do his halftime analysis on one of the Networks and go back home and sleep in his own bed, read the paper......go to the kid's games. It's my opinion that these coaches that can't stop coaching just thrive to be center of attention.

My understanding is that the thing most folk involved with the NFL miss the most is not 1) training camp 2) pre-season. Meaning, the interview was very well timed to get a passive response from Cowher on this issue.

 I wonder if Andy Reid's problems at home played into any of his recent decisions.
