For what it's worth, we used to deal with this in our pass first system at Hawaii. Our stadium has a lot of rain at night (when we play), and it's kind of counter-intuitive because you would think that rain would hurt the pass game.But, what actually happens is that a rainy field makes for a field which has worse footing. So, when you have a receiver running a route, he knows exactly where he should be going, but the DB doesn't. The slick field actually makes it harder on the defense to cover someone, giving the advantage to the receiver and the passing offense. As for catching the ball in the rain...these guys are pros wearing gloves with waterproof stickum, and catching a wet ball is not a problem. There is one small clarification though...Rain was no problem. But WIND really was. With a strong armed NFL QB it might not matter too much unless your up into the 30+mph zone, but it wouldn't hurt to check for that when you are making your choice about who to start.

The rain front will move from west to east. Click on "places" and "place names" if you don't know where London is ...you will be able to follow this right up to kick off. Remember, this is not a storm front, just steady rain. Wembley is on the north side of London.

The rain is currently forecast to be gone by 3pm, 2 hours before kick off. The stong winds are also forecast to have gone by kick off. The clocks went back an hour here last night and that should help! The big issue remains how the turf responds to the earlier rain. If it chews up badly again, I agree that Wembley should not host another NFL game, but because of the turf, not the weather, and it's worth remembering the rain last year was exceptional.
I am not benching anyone I would normally start in this game.

Whatever you guys think (and we've had similar discussions about Premier League football matches being played abroad) there are plenty of UK NFL fans who are pleased the games have been played over here.

Just saw on NFL live five mins ago - stadium had a tarp on the field, it wasn't currently raining, reporter said that the field had grow lights on it to help the pitch take and the grass was 18 months old now, it was new when Giants played Phins last year.
It actually didn't look too bad to me. They will have more live reports during the hours leading up to gametime but I hope I am wrong about the turf not being worthy of NFL play.

I'm in Chicago, and the Bears are on a bye week, yet this is not the noon game that we're getting on CBS. Instead we're getting the Jets and Chiefs? Why in the hell would anyone in their right mind want to watch this game anyway?

Major props go out to the British fans that gave a resounding disapproval of the 15 yrd celebration penalty that was given to Lance Moore in the 2nd quarter.
They had no real rooting interest when it came to what team they were supporting, so they obviously weren't upset about the Saints losing 15 yards.
They were there to watch football and have fun, and when the NFL poo pooed on the players fun, they let them hear about it.

Wrong. It's because the Super Bowl is an incredibly huge media event. A great many of the tickets to this game go to celebrities, VIPs, and quite a few other people who wouldn't bother to show up in the rain, sleet, hail, snow, etc.If they really felt that poor weather conditions shouldn't have any effect on the result of the championship game, they'd hold the Super Bowl in a closed dome every single year.
I would be absolutely amazed if the teams weren't compensated in full for any additional expenses they incur and for the revenue they lose from hosting one fewer home game. Not to mention that the teams who play in overseas game get first shot at winning new fans who have no loyalty to any regional team.As for the host country not benefeting from this, you're out of your mind. They're bringing in quite a bit of money from this event, and you're crazy if you think otherwise.You admit that the NFL benefits - well, the NFL is comprised of 32 teams. So if the NFL benefits, the 32 teams benefit. If the teams benefit, the players indirectly benefit, since there is more revenue coming into the league, and hence more money to go around.The only losers here are American NFL fans.

There were several posts along the lines of if you think this is going to be a high-scoring game, you're stupid (even after reasonable posts pointing to the improved field conditions).
