London weather for Chargers @ Saints (1 Viewer)

Many of us in the business world have to travel internationally and perform without consideration of jet lag / inconvenience / etc.It seems to me that players and fans whining about this are being cats, or another word for cats.I'm starting Colston, and he better perform.
Yes, many of us have jobs that require us to perform at an elite level of athleticism every week, while either chasing or being chased by very big guys in pads and helmets. Apart from that slight difference an excellent point.
You mean playing a violent sport in front of 80,000 screaming fans and millions on TV isn't the same as eating a continental breakfast and playing with your BlackBerries?

So is it wise to start a wr/te in this game? How is the weather over there for any homers over there? Windy/rain?
For what it's worth, we used to deal with this in our pass first system at Hawaii. Our stadium has a lot of rain at night (when we play), and it's kind of counter-intuitive because you would think that rain would hurt the pass game. But, what actually happens is that a rainy field makes for a field which has worse footing. So, when you have a receiver running a route, he knows exactly where he should be going, but the DB doesn't. The slick field actually makes it harder on the defense to cover someone, giving the advantage to the receiver and the passing offense. As for catching the ball in the rain...these guys are pros wearing gloves with waterproof stickum, and catching a wet ball is not a problem. There is one small clarification though...Rain was no problem. But WIND really was. With a strong armed NFL QB it might not matter too much unless your up into the 30+mph zone, but it wouldn't hurt to check for that when you are making your choice about who to start.

Guys

as I posted in another thread, these are the only links you need:

radar

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/index.html

The rain front will move from west to east. Click on "places" and "place names" if you don't know where London is ...you will be able to follow this right up to kick off. Remember, this is not a storm front, just steady rain. Wembley is on the north side of London.

forecast

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/...st_weather.html

The rain is currently forecast to be gone by 3pm, 2 hours before kick off. The stong winds are also forecast to have gone by kick off. The clocks went back an hour here last night and that should help! The big issue remains how the turf responds to the earlier rain. If it chews up badly again, I agree that Wembley should not host another NFL game, but because of the turf, not the weather, and it's worth remembering the rain last year was exceptional.

I am not benching anyone I would normally start in this game.

It's about midday here - it has rained most of the morning (I live about 30 miles from Wembley). At the moment there doesn't seem to be much of a break in the clouds.

I think the key point is now the pitch. Last year's game was only a few months from when it was laid. This year, it will have had another year to bed in, as said above. Hopefully, the gorundstaff will have learnt from last year and leave it a bit longer on top too...

Whatever you guys think (and we've had similar discussions about Premier League football matches being played abroad) there are plenty of UK NFL fans who are pleased the games have been played over here.

Just saw on NFL live five mins ago - stadium had a tarp on the field, it wasn't currently raining, reporter said that the field had grow lights on it to help the pitch take and the grass was 18 months old now, it was new when Giants played Phins last year.

It actually didn't look too bad to me. They will have more live reports during the hours leading up to gametime but I hope I am wrong about the turf not being worthy of NFL play.

i believe the field runs west to east. now i just need to know which way the wind is blowing across the field.

NFL Network predicting big game for Duce today.

They don't think the field will hold up, made for 180 pound soccer players, not NFL players

for what its worth.

Why wouldn't the NFL be pimping this game as much as possible?

I'm in Chicago, and the Bears are on a bye week, yet this is not the noon game that we're getting on CBS. Instead we're getting the Jets and Chiefs? Why in the hell would anyone in their right mind want to watch this game anyway?

What about other bye week markets? What game are you getting?

I'm guessing either the NFL or your local affiliate thinks you're more interested in Favre. Don't get the logic at all since that should be a pretty lame game.

Chicago's getting Chiefs-Jets as well.

anyone have to decide about starting rivers? i've got him and bulger, unfortunately.

so...

it's been raining, was windy, all of that has stopped, but the field is still wet, still has a tarp on it, seems most are expecting a sloppier game.

I guess i'll go with bulger.

thanks.

Game on tv here, just showed the field, announcers said it was in good condition and players pleased with it during warmups.. didn't look windy- but no mention really

Crap... Tomlinson hasn't been able to stay on his feet on familiar grounds (seriously... he's fallen down alot for no obvious reason)... I don't know why the hell I'm starting him... But he did look spry and speedy coming out of the tunnel.

I decided to bench Colston in favor of Josh Morgan today, due to the weather (and Colston having difficulties last week). I have a feeling this one is going to come back to bite me.

Major props go out to the British fans that gave a resounding disapproval of the 15 yrd celebration penalty that was given to Lance Moore in the 2nd quarter.

They had no real rooting interest when it came to what team they were supporting, so they obviously weren't upset about the Saints losing 15 yards.

They were there to watch football and have fun, and when the NFL poo pooed on the players fun, they let them hear about it.

Ever notice how they don't schedule Super Bowl games in Green Bay, Chicago, Cleveland, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and a few good others? Wonder why? Because if possible weather should not play a large role in the winner and loser of a football game.
Wrong. It's because the Super Bowl is an incredibly huge media event. A great many of the tickets to this game go to celebrities, VIPs, and quite a few other people who wouldn't bother to show up in the rain, sleet, hail, snow, etc.If they really felt that poor weather conditions shouldn't have any effect on the result of the championship game, they'd hold the Super Bowl in a closed dome every single year.
Who exactly benefits from holding regular season games in other countries? The teams? Not with travel & logistic issues, additional expenses and a lost home game by one team. Selling blokes a few Saints hats doesn’t exactly offset that. The fans? Again, one less home game, and the view from their couches is the same no matter where the players actually are. The players? I bet they can afford to travel on their own during the 25-30 weeks they have off each season. The host country? Rainy, windy & cold doesn’t make a great tourism promotion. Plus, is London really that short of entertainment options that they need to bring in a sport that few understand? The NFL? Ding, ding, ding, ding. We have a winner!
I would be absolutely amazed if the teams weren't compensated in full for any additional expenses they incur and for the revenue they lose from hosting one fewer home game. Not to mention that the teams who play in overseas game get first shot at winning new fans who have no loyalty to any regional team.As for the host country not benefeting from this, you're out of your mind. They're bringing in quite a bit of money from this event, and you're crazy if you think otherwise. You admit that the NFL benefits - well, the NFL is comprised of 32 teams. So if the NFL benefits, the 32 teams benefit. If the teams benefit, the players indirectly benefit, since there is more revenue coming into the league, and hence more money to go around. The only losers here are American NFL fans.

I thought the NFL loved offensive football. Why are we being subjected to another slog-fest in Wembley Stadium?
Stupid NFL. The best these two teams could do is a lousy 37-32 slog-fest. How boring!
Hindsight is 20-20......
Is it hindsight when you're part of a group of people suggesting that others don't overreact based on what happened last year with a struggling offensively-deficient team against the worst team in the league using a backup quarterback?Fantasy football is a lot of luck. But it's also a great deal of logic.

Yeah, you thought the weather was going to slow down two high-powered offenses that were facing two terrible defenses, and I get the eyeroll. Makes sense.

The fans?
YES, the fans over here in Europe. Some of you guys are so narrow-minded, it is ridiculous.

The game ended 37:32 do you really think it would have been a better game in NO or SD? come on...

Did anyone complain that the Bills played in Toronto?

 There were several posts along the lines of if you think this is going to be a high-scoring game, you're stupid (even after reasonable posts pointing to the improved field conditions).
