long layover at LAX - anything interesting near the airport? (1 Viewer)

I have an upcoming trip where I will have a really long layover at LAX - landing at 4:30PM on a Saturday and leaving at 12:50AM... 8+ hours.  Is there anything worth doing near by outside of LAX?  Local bar/restaurant, etc?  It would be easy enough to clear customs, check my luggage, and Uber somewhere more interesting than an airport bar.

You're mere minutes from Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey/Vista.10 - 15 minutes from Manhattan Beach, Venice.

You could go see a movie, drink at a beach-side bar, enjoy some of the better sushi in the city (highly recommend Sugarfish in Marina Del Rey), and be back at the airport with plenty of time to still be annoyed.

There's scrip club on Century.

Christ,  with an 8 hour layover he could drive to Bakersfield, have a long lunch, and drive back in plenty of time.  Not that anyone would want to do that but it's still possible.

As noted, you have oodles of time to check out two, maybe three nearby nabes.

Google to see what your preference would be out of Santa Monica, Venice, Marina Del Rey, Manhattan/Hermosa. Easy to do two of those for 2-3 hours each, grab a bite, walk a little, drink, fly.

If you are in to craft beer, El Segundo is making some o the best around. El Segundo is a cool little throwback neighborhood as well. Just plan on a lot of time to get back to the airport no matter how far you stray.

I left my wallet in El Segundo.

If you want sushi you can't go wrong with Sugarfish, but my go to local joint is right near the MDR Sugar Fish and it's called Irori. I actually prefer that over Sugarfish personally.

Marisol at the end of Santa Monica pier for margaritas. Stroll around there (pier and Ocean Avenue) for lots of shops and food and drink including some great views of the ocean.

Sugarfish is great.  For hand rolls I like Kazunori in Westwood.  My everyday place is Hara Sushi on Sawtelle (Hide is considered the best on Sawtelle but they only take cash and the place is tiny).

Nabes?

Last time I had a lot of time before an LAX flight I went to the La Brea Tarpits.  Very cool place (though not a bar).  Not sure what time they are open until on Saturdays, though.

Go to the Grove - there is great food, bars, shopping and a movie theater.  Also there will be great eye candy the entire time you are there.  If gals and sports are your thing try Dames and games (damesngames.net - semi sfw) downtown or in van  nuys - Food is edible bar food type.

I love the strand in Hermosa Beach, particularly Pier Plaza. It's a row of bars/restaurants, lots of people around especially on a Saturday, and definitely a cool spot to check out the college games
