We had a couple of the same ones, :D But did you mean Joey Browner? The same defensive back who played with Ronnie Lott at USC? The guy who was a black belt Akido and tackled Bo Jackson with one hand?

Yes, Joey Browner, that's the guy. Who is ross browner?

:rotflmao: Didn't he win a scab game?
He might have, but I don't think he was a scab player. He backed up Danny White. For a long time I called Elvis Grbac Elvis Hogeboom because...Roger Staubach was great for the Cowboys and Cowboy fans were like, "Well now we got Danny White and he is just as good as Roger". Then while Danny White was quarterback, Cowboy fans were like, "Well now we got Gary Hogeboom and he is just as good as Danny." Kind of like a carbon copy of a carbon copy.Much like Montana, to Young to Grbac, thus Elvis Hogeboom.

Wheelhouse ... your Ross Browner inclination was a good one!

RB was an All-American DE at Notre Dame in 1976 and 77. He won the Outland Trophy in '76 and the Lombardi Award and Maxwell Award in '77. The Bengals took him at #8 overall in the 1978 draft and he played for them until 1985 when he got suspended over a drug violation. He also played for the Packers at the end of his career.

BTW, he has a profile as one of the Top 100 College players of all-time at collegefootballnews.com

What a perfect thread for a snowbound day...priceless!!!Here's one for ya'll: anyone remember when the Chiefs actually had a decent secondary??? THE MID/LATE 80's!!!These guys were awesome!!!Albert LewisKevin RossDeron CherryLloyd Burress...good to see the Doug Plank refererence... but you can't really utter his name without mentioning his backfield partner Gary Fencik in the same breath, now, can you? This is great: "Before games I would think nasty thoughts about the players I'd be going against," Plank said. "I was not a happy person before games.""I have a hit reel from when I played and I took it to one of the local high schools," Plank said. "After I showed it I took some questions and one of the kids wanted to know how much I paid in fines."GB the old school attitude. It'd be nice to see a little more of that these days...My dad used those two as examples when he taught me about how to play DB in Pop Warner. It was great when the Bears came to town to play the 'skins. We'd go to the game and I'd watch 'how to take care of' WR's away from the ball and the play. His mantra was that physical play was half the secret to successful pass defense. "Even the best receiver only has two eyes - one for the ball and one for the play. If he has to keep an eye on you, you've taken him out of the game plan..."GB Pops, Plank and Fencik!Oh, **** "Night Train" Lane...best DB nickname of all time, and he earned every letter, no doubt about it!

Anyone remember the Jones boys:

Johnny "Lam" Jones and

Johnny "Ham" Jones?

They both played for Texas in the late 70's at the same time and both played some in the pros. In fact they each rushed for over 100 yards in the 1978 Sun Bowl thought I think Lam was a wide reciever.

Here's a tidbit about "Lam" from the thedailytexanonline.com"

Johnny Lam Jones, who also played four years of Longhorn football, was considered to be atop the pinnacle of the track world at the time. "Johnny Lam Jones was without a doubt the single fastest man of his time," assistant athletic director Bill Little said.

Jones, who had won an Olympic gold medal straight out of high school in 1976, took to the track in 1977 with hopes of setting a new world record. With a new electronic timing device guaranteeing the most accurate time displays ever, Jones awed the crowd of 26,980 by beating his nearest 100-meter competitor by two complete strides.

Jones, sure of his world record, smiled and gave recognition to the crowd.

Several minutes later, the judges announced that the electronic timing unit had malfunctioned and Jones' unofficial time was 9.85 seconds. Had the timing device worked as promised, Jones would have held a world record that was not matched until 1992.

After his collegiate days were up, Jones went on to sign the first ever million-dollar contact in NFL history as he inked with the New York Jets.

The Jones! Nice Find!!!

There were actually THREE of them, (Lam, Ham and Jam), and they collectively threw the stones to Maryland in the 1978 Sun Bowl. I've hated Mack Brown ever since...

1978 Sun Bowl

The 14th-ranked Longhorns unleashed a punishing ground attack on No. 13 Maryland in the 1978 Sun Bowl and rolled to a 42-0 blowout.

Some observers were surprised at the lopsided outcome as both teams were in contention for the national championship more than halfway into the season. In fact, the Terrapins stood 8-0 and ranked as high as No. 5 in the country before losing two of their last three and tumbling in the rankings. Despite its late-season troubles, Maryland appeared to be a formidable opponent for the Longhorns, who suffered a pair of late-season disappointments of their own and fell from No. 6 to No. 14 in the national rankings.

At game time, Maryland was unable to keep up with the Joneses – Johnny “Lam” Jones, Johnny “Ham” Jones and Johnny “Jam” Jones – as the trio accounted for 211 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

Lam Jones got things started when the versatile receiver scored on a seven-yard run just five minutes into the game. Three minutes later Jam Jones rumbled in from one yard out and the Horns lead was 14-0.

Not to be outdone, Lam again found the endzone at the 4:37 mark when he took a Mark McBath pass 29 yards and Texas had put the game away by the end of the first quarter.

Following a McBath two-yard scramble that put Texas on top 28-0 in the second quarter, the pace slowed. More than 20 minutes would tick off the clock until the next score, which came on the heels of a Maryland turnover deep in their own territory.

The Longhorns took over and needed just three plays to move ahead 35-0 when Jam Jones scored his second touchdown of the day, a 14-yard scamper.

Ninety seconds later, Ham Jones finished the scoring with a 32-yard rushing dash after yet another Terps turnover.

Ham Jones led all players with 104 yards rushing of 14 carries, followed by Jam Jones with 100 on 19 carries. Texas had 286 yards total on the ground, compared to just 106 on 47 carries for Maryland.

Texas was successful in snapping the nation’s third-longest scoring streak as the Terps were held scoreless for the first time in 95 games.
