Look at this ####### pummel an old man at a football game (1 Viewer)

So a thread about a young guy sucker punching an old man has turned in to an FFA pissing contest over whether it is ok to stand at a football game. This place is like a room for full of six year olds when it comes to staying on point.
The young guy is a total Richard and there's really no debate.

Unless you want to play  devils advocate and defend the guy, what else should we discuss?

Whether it is okay to stand at a football game is the issue that precipitated the altercation. It's germane to the topic and an issue on which reasonable minds can differ (which is what makes it a good topic for discussion).

Only if the so-called reasonable minds believe that it could in any way justify the physical assault on the old man. Which I seriously hope isn't the case.

Why is that the only way it could be germane to the topic?  The assaulter committed a crime, has been arrested and will be charged. About that there is no debate, and there isn't much else to discuss.  What we can debate, however, is whether he had the right to stand for the entirety of the game and obstruct the view of the fans seated directly behind him.

Supposedly the internet already found him and he deleted his Instagram (like that'll do anything, idiot)... Not gonna post his name bc the internet occasionally gets this stuff wrong.

I guess this is the one positive of social media, you do something this callous to an old man, it's forever attached to you. Looks like he'll have to sell the old Trans Am.

It's everywhere, but I'm using the barstool link; https://www.barstoolsports.com/philadelphia/hopefully-this-scumbag-panthers-fan-finds-himself-in-jail-after-sucker-punching-this-older-eagles-fan-last-night
A. Unload on the jerk all you want. I have no objection to it.

B. As a 64-year-old, I do object to calling the 62-year-old victim an old man. So watch it, you young punk.

Just sayin...if the puncher were a cop and the old man was...eh, I'll stop there, but you'd all be saying you need to wait for more information to come out, amiright?

And I reserve the right to toss crap at you for being a ####.

I stand when everyone around me stands and sit when everyone around me sits.  Guess that makes me a good follower.

As for the defense, if the dooshbro was protecting the honor of his lady, why did he need multiple head shots? Or any headshots? Weak defense, like the Panthers.

:goodposting:

I agree with all this, and enjoyed the Panthers pot shot at end.  Well done all around. Only thing missing was a jab at Newton.

I’m 62, and if some young guy views me as a threat to his gal ...more power to me.  Reminds me of an old Clint Eastwood movie, Bronco Billy.

Sondra Locke: You married?

Clint: Nope.

SL: Why not?

Clint: Came home one day and found my wife in bed with my best friend.

SL: What did you do?

Clint: I shot her.

SL: Her?  What about him?!

Clint: He was my best friend!

Went to a game a few years ago with my kids and they couldn't see anything due to everyone standing almost the entire game.   Even standing in their seats they couldn't see much.  That along with the drunks spilling beer trying to get out of the aisle to go piss themselves, and the "F" bomb dropped every 10 seconds was enough to never go again.      Pay for the NFL ticket (or don't with Directv just threaten to cancel) watch any game you want in the comfort of your home.    Hell you can even take a knee before the game in your living room if you like.   Pause the game and take a piss.    Go get a beer/beers and some food with no fuss.        Amazing so many people still go to live sporting events.

Yeah it's fun to go but only once in a blue moon for me.  I have been to a few and honestly would be cool if I never went again.

I will only bring my kids to a preseason game or regular season in the club section or a suite. Even the club section is risky. ####e, the walk in and out can be disturbing.

I go to a lot of games and prefer to sit but if the guy in front of me stands, then I stand.  The people that really bug me are the ones that sit but jump up before the play is over.  I can understand it if happens on a big play but I've sat behind people that literally jump up on every play.  Drives me nuts

Seen this scenario play out in person several times.

Went to a college hoops game a few years ago at a neutral arena. However, one of the teams was sort of local and had a pretty big fan local fan base. Like 100 of their fans bought a block of tickets courtside directly in our view.  They were the underdog and were sort of in the game early, so they started getting REALLY amped and jumping up for basically anything that could end up being a semi exciting play for their team. Any time someone tipped a pass, ATTEMPTED a 3 pointer or secured a rebound, the whole group lept to their feet like someone had just broken a backboard with a 360 dunk. It just brutal. Basically ruined the game.

Had another incident (different year, but same fan base) a few years earlier. Was sitting next to an older couple (probably in their 60's) and some 40 year old mouth breather and his teenage son were sitting in front of us. Dad was clearly a SUPER FAN and was standing for 75% of the game (again, we're talking a November pre-conference college hoops game at a neutral arena) and the kid started getting into it. The couple next to us poliitely asked them to sit down a couple of times early and they begrudgingly agreed. Finally in the 2nd half, the old man had had enough and pushed the kid back into his seat forcefully and said "Hey son, we cant' see!!". Dad turns around and screams "Sorry, #######. I STAND. I'm A FAN!!!!" and a minor brouhaha breaks out. No punches, but it was close.

You're buying a seat, not a space.  In most cases, the expectation is that you sit for a majority of the game. Exceptions are big plays, the last 5 minutes of a game or if you're siting in a student/supporters section.

He has a tattoo of thors hammer that says " keep pounding". They are going to absolutely love that in the booty house.

You should poll this.  I think you will surprised how many people disagree.  I prefer to sit up have been forced to stand many times.

Firm believer that ad coelum doctrine applies to stadium seating.
Sometimes I push for my cut of any concessions located directly under me as well.

Obviously wouldn't resort to violence, but ppl like you are the worst. "I can see a little better if I stand, so I'll completely ruin the view for others behind me" who will then need to ruin the view of others behind THEM, and so on"

I never once said I'm aiming to ruin anyone's experience. Go back and look where I said I'd offer to switch seats, or move to the side, or any other option honestly. I'm just not going to sit there and twiddle my thumbs if I can't see.  Stadiums pump signs in with "get on your feet," and "let's get loud on 3rd down" which entices people to stand. They want people to stand.  Texas A&M prides themselves on having a home stadium advantage where no one sits all game

If you're not willing to stand at any point in a game, then yeah I'm sorry but you're better at home playing with your #### on the couch because you're not going to be able to see the game.

Thats not me ruining someone's experience, it's me adapting to what has been going on for years.

Also this isn't the case with what started this thread but a number of years ago I had season tix on the 30 yard line, row 4 of the lower level. I was ok but rows 1-3 were too low to see over the players. That was a fact. They had to stand, which meant I had to stand, and those behind me and so on. I didn't complain to those people - they paid good money for those seats and would literally being staring at helmets all day if they remained seated.

Maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety but it makes me sad that this discussion is even being had.  First and foremost, no matter what the argument is about, to me, it's never ok to just lean back and clock a guy in the face like that.  Again and again.  What happened to us a community, as a country?  Anyway, I think everyone will agree on that part of it.  But what really gets me is that the obvious answer is, well, obvious.  It shouldn't be about whose "allowed" to do what at an event, it's about common courtesy.  If people are mad about people standing or being loud or being drunk or cursing or whatever, how about going and grabbing one of the stadium workers.  Let them come down, see what's going on and go from there.  It's my experience that when you get one or two people acting like jerks, everyone around is more prone to speak up when the stadium guy in his uniform shows up.  Very simple and civilized solution to a simple problem.  I know, get off my lawn!  Anyway, the whole thing makes me sad and reluctant to take my kids to games anymore.

I don’t think anyone is arguing against any of this.

I am assuming the bulk of your experience is with college football.  I think college is a bit different than the NFL experience.  I'm down low too and I generally stand because others are standing and I like that.  I sit all day long at work.  Standing is fine with me.  When those around me sit for breaks in the action, well then I sit too.  Just common sense and common decency.  I do think college fans are more accepting of standing, from my experiences.

There are SOOOOO many more long breaks in an NFL game that I have to think the average fan tires of standing and I can see getting agitated if people stand constantly in front of you all game long, especially if others are sitting down and your view is from up above.

A lot of my experience is college, but I’ve gone to a couple of NFL games each season as well. If everyone is sitting, I’m sitting. I never claimed otherwise but for some reason people latch onto what they want to see. If people are standing though or my view is impeded, I’m standing.  I’m also not going to bemoan someone because they want to stand.  In my view, that is completely acceptable and no different than standing at a concert.

It's only a matter of time before he picks the wrong person and gets shot. He is also clearly the biggest coward on earth, as is displayed by him taking off and running the second he quits punching.

I stand in movie theaters so that I have an unobstructed view and can really cheer on the actors.  I know it pumps them up and I get their best performance.

It’s wrong. He’s arrested. What more is there to say about it?  Where would you take and improve this thread and discourse

Everyone agrees you stand during big moments, great plays, and when PA person is getting people riled up on purpose.

Also agree with most that it is a complete DB move to stand for long periods of time when everyone around you is not. End of story. Those people are always looking for trouble to show how tough they are and has nothing to do with whether they are looking parallel, down, bought the 'space', or whatever.

Ironically reminds me of all the times I almost got my ### kicked at A&M games for NOT standing as a student.

I once took-through where I used to work-about 6 emotionally disturbed teenagers to a Buffalo Bills football game (tickets had been donated for the kids). Turned out it was in the end zone, which anyone who has ever been to a Bills game knows can get very out of control (maybe it's like that in every stadium).

Big crew of highly intoxicated 20-somethings about 2 rows behind us. Somebody had been hitting a balloon through the crowd and when it came near the kids they didn't pop it back up, so it hit the ground. The entire row of drunk guys stood up and began yelling "a**hole, a**hole" at the kids while pointing at them.

The other staff member with me at the time-a woman-looked at me and said "Aren't you going to do something?"

I laughed and said "Yeah I'll get right on that".

You should have popped it.

Corporal punishment never should have gone away.  Put him in a stockade outside the entrance for the remaining home games.  Allow each fan entering to punch him once in face.  Problem solved.

My passive aggressive way of paying back those kids for all the grief I got haha

It was free though so there is that.
In all seriousness, good on ya - not just for taking the kids to the game, but for laughing and deflecting. Sometimes kids need to see an adult de-escalate a situation. Much better than handing over the smallest one to the mob like I would have done.

Better yet, charge $5 per smack and raise some money for a good cause.

Got :X watching that video, wish I hadn't clicked it. This POS needs to serve time for that, just disgusting and unacceptable.
