Looting in Missouri after cops shoot 18 year old (3 Viewers)

To get an indictment:

Evidence that Wilson shot Brown, that the fatal shots were of some reasonable distance, plus witness testimony that Brown was surrendering.
Am I musremembering, or wasn't there a recent leak that witnesses only told this to media and police on the scene? That no one testified this to the grand jury?
You get these clowns in a controlled environment and grill them as to what really happened and there is no way their stories can sync up. They are either forced to tell the real story or they are discarded when their stories don't add up. The riots will be instantaneous upon announcement of the finding. Then once they witness accounts are released in the findings, the rioters will again look around wanting someone else to rebuild what they destroyed. And of course, don't forget the screams of a cover up and witless intimidation. Those will be entertaining.
Maybe. But none of that should be happening before a grand jury. There shouldn't be any cross-examination. If there is at least one witness to testify that Brown surrendered, that should be enough. In fact, there shouldn't really be ANY contradictory witnesses appearing at all.

As Sinn Fein pointed out: one forensics guy to state that Wilson fired his gun at a distance, one police officer to state that Michael Brown was shot, and one witness to state that Brown raised his hands and surrendered. That's it. Should take a couple of hours, and Wilson should be indicted. You don't need all of these other witnesses. You don't need to hear Wilson's story. You don't need to waste time on any of that, it will all come out at trial. The Grand Jury should have met on this for a half a day and then indicted Wilson. I don't understand why it's taken so long, and I don't understand why they feel the need to hear ALL of the evidence.
Are you insane? So you randomly pick a witness and go with whatever he says? :lmao: That's basically what you are saying. You absolutely interview everyone to get a correct story.

So they are going to release as the sun goes down? What could go wrong?
Brilliant right?
This will not end well.
My guess is the state officials wanted to give everyone who works in St. Louis, Ferguson, or wherever in that vicinity, time to leave work, get home with their loved ones, and lock the door. It would be a true mess if they announced the decision during the work day, the rioting started, and commuters were getting attacked like happened during the L.A. Riot.
:lmao:

There are going to be some very disappointed posters in here tonight.
:lmao:

Yeah, we're rooting for riots.

Or maybe we're being realistic that it's a possibility and it's better to be safe than sorry.

Tell me, why do you think they picked 8:00 PM for the announcement?
Prime time coverage.

Better for ratings.

The family of Michael Brown is asking for four and a half minutes of silence before protests begin.

The time period is a reference to the approximately four hours Michael Brown's body lay in the street after he was shot. (CNN)

Brown family seems to be adding fuel to the fire.
Pure genius. Get the other looters and rioters to pause so you can get the head start on them and grab the best TV. That is thinking out of the box right there.

Absolutely brilliant. They won't see the national guard erecting the barb wired fences around the area where they are looting and rioting.

I would say, you can't be this dense, but then I remember who I am talking to.

People like you are the worst, because it's so obvious that you want Wilson to be guilty.

I don't care much for populism either. We have a justice system. We shouldn't alter it because the outcome might be unpopular.

9:00 is a good move. All the humans are able to get home from work and lock their doors.

Of course they should have waited for tomorrow as there are 2 games on tonight. Gonna be flipping channels a lot at 9:00.

The grand jury consists of six white men, three white women, two black women and one black man. Nine votes are needed to indict.

First no I don't want Wilson to be guilty. But that's not the point of an indictment. Indictments don't prove guilt or innocence; that's up to trial. It's not for a grand jury to decide if Wilson committed a crime, only if there's enough evidence to show that he should be tried. And as Sinn Fein pointed out there probably is.

Oh and since two people have asked if I am insane, I regard that as a trick question. There's no right answer, so I'll go with I'm not sure.

If there is no indictment:

As much as I detest Al Sharpton, this is the sort of situation where he and others like him can have a real value to society. If black leaders can channel the anger of the black community towards peaceful protests and away from violence (as they did after the Zimmerman verdict) then we owe them a debt of gratitude.

Have the grand jury proceedings been made public? Because how can you make a judgment if you do not know what the evidence presented was?

what does this have to do with what I wrote? What judgment have I made?

Some recent Rasmussen poll results before the announcement:

Only 1 in 4 Americans believe that white police officer Darren Wilson should be charged with murder by the grand jury in the shooting death in of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, according to a poll released Friday.

With the St. Louis County grand jury expected to render its verdict at any time, the Rasmussen Reports poll found that only 23 percent of those surveyed said Mr. Wilson should be indicted for the Aug. 9 murder of Mr. Brown, whose death touched off riots in Ferguson, Missouri.
Another 39 percent of Americans said that Mr. Wilson acted in self-defense, up from 26 percent when the same question was asked in a mid-August poll. Another 38 percent are undecided, compared with 51 percent who were undecided three months ago.
As for predictions, 49 percent say they expect the grand jury to find the officer not guilty on the basis of self-defense, while just 11 percent said they believe Mr. Wilson will be charged with murder.

The vast majority — 81 percent — said they expect to see violent protests if the grand jury does not indict the officer on murder charges, while just 10 percent said such a reaction was not likely.

Fifty percent of those surveyed said that the Justice Department should not pursue federal charges against Mr. Wilson if the grand jury fails to indict him, while 25 percent said the agency should try to charge him with federal crimes related to the shooting.
The poll found a strong racial divide on the issue. Fully 59 percent of black adults responding to the survey said that Mr. Wilson should be charged with murder, while only 15 percent of whites and 29 percent of other minorities agreed.

Only 13 percent of blacks surveyed said they thought Mr. Wilson acted in self-defense, along with 38 percent of other minorities and 43 percent of whites.

“But blacks (57 percent) are even more convinced than whites (48 percent) and other minorities (47 percent) are that the local legal system will decide Wilson acted in self-defense,” said the Rasmussen analysis.

The survey of 1,000 adults was conducted Nov. 19-20, with a -/+3 percent margin of error and 95 percent level of confidence.
Grand Juries do not find people innocent, nor do they find people not guilty on the basis of self-defense.

They answer a fairly direct question about whether there is probable cause that a crime was committed.

HTH

There have been many, many people in here "rooting for riots." Sure, they'd say they're "joking", but they know in their hearts that they aren't.

Is that better or worse than trying to justify riots?

JFC, local news is reporting that masses of people are showing up in Ferguson as if it were some sort of concert or something. :oldunsure: :(
Thank you news media for turning this into the circus it was destined to become.

Hopefully it will be peaceful protest. That's all you can hope for.

Wow. Could you be any more disgusting? Regardless of your opinion on this situation I do find it telling that you don't even consider them "human."

Really tired of "reporter" bias. If not bias then extremely uneducated... tonight on Nbc world news the "reporter" stated

"In a few hours we will find out if the officer is guilty"

seriously  :wall:

protestors swarming cars trying to get through streets blocked with human chains... saw one moron waiving an upside down american flag

Don't get why they are stringing it out so long to announce the verdict. I think the longer they take, the more intense the protests will be no matter what the decision is due to all this pent up anticipation and waiting...

This is rather stupid--we are going to announce the exact time so people will have time to gather and get their Molotov's filled....

It was announced this am that it would come at 4:00 pm local time. It's now after 7.... At this point they should wait until after midnight so some of the people would be too tired or in bed to do much harm.
